Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Life Refining

"My personality, Master, you know, is the very easygoing type."

"I'm only two or three years older than them, but sometimes even I find Natsu Grey and them a bit noisy, let alone Laxus, who is much older." Ezreal analyzed seriously.

"But Laxus doesn't seem to like Natsu and them very much." Makarov whispered.

Ezreal shook his head and continued, "The older members of the Guild, like you, or Uncle Macao, have watched Natsu and the others grow up little by little. They have the affection of looking at children, so naturally, they wouldn't find anything wrong with children being noisy in the Guild they consider their home."

"They all grew up together when they were little. But now Laxus always goes out on missions with his Thunder God Tribe, and he communicates less and less with his Guildmates." Makarov said after listening to Ezreal, hesitating for a moment.

Worry was clearly written on Makarov's face.

"I know what you're thinking, but it's alright." Ezreal didn't even lift his head, picking up the teapot to refill his and Makarov's cups.

"When I had lunch, I asked Mira. Since Laxus was promoted to S-Class Mage, his mission requests have no failure records, no complaint records." Ezreal looked seriously at the grey-haired old man in front of him.

"You've probably never had to write a letter of apology to the Council because of Laxus, have you?" Ezreal smiled, his tone very calm.

But Makarov, sitting opposite him, was struck as if by lightning. The teacup in his hand dropped onto the table, spilling tea all over.

"This…"

"Laxus, he…"

"Some people are just not good at expressing themselves, but that doesn't mean they lack the capacity to love." Ezreal picked up the old man's teacup, poured out the remaining tea, and refilled it with hot water, handing it to the old man.

"The weather is getting cold. When you're old, drink less cold stuff, one or two cups are fine. Drink more hot water to warm your stomach." Ezreal took two tissues from the table and slowly wiped the spilled tea clean.

Makarov didn't respond, lowering his head to hold the teacup, the faint steam rising directly to his aged face.

The atmosphere was silent for a moment.

Ezreal clearly saw that as the steam rose, the kind old man's shoulders gently twitched, and clear droplets fell into the teacup, creating tiny ripples.

Perhaps, this cup of hot water was too warming for his stomach… After a long silence, Ezreal chose to change the subject to divert attention.

"Let's talk about something serious. Today isn't just to chat idly with you. I have two things I'd like your opinion on." Ezreal put down his teacup, extended his left index finger, and drew a circle in the air in front of him. A slowly rotating, glowing white vortex Dimensional Summoning portal appeared.

During this period of cultivation, he had already mastered Dimensional Summoning to perfection, controlling the size of the portal at will, and able to open a portal anywhere within ten meters of his surroundings.

Moreover, his Dimensional Summoning had another advantage: he could throw some daily necessities into it and use it as storage space.

A personal space, of course, it's a must-have standard!

Ezreal reached his hand inside and fumbled around, pulling out a magic book thick enough to be used as a brick, and a rolled-up parchment scroll.

Ezreal placed these two items on the table.

The cover of the magic book was carved from special red metal and green gems, with an amber-colored prismatic gem embedded in the center. Inside the gem, four ancient characters were written.

Life Alchemy

Just by its name, it didn't seem like a proper magic book, but the magic fluctuations emanating from it were not evil.

Compared to it, the parchment scroll was quite ordinary; besides looking old, there was nothing special about it from the outside.

"Where did you find this magic book!" Makarov's previously subdued emotions were instantly broken. He stared wide-eyed at the magic book on the table, almost dropping the hot water in his hand again.

Fortunately, Ezreal was quick to catch the teacup and placed it steadily on the table, smiling helplessly. He seriously suspected that this old man had a habit of dropping his cup whenever he got excited.

"That one book was placed on the highest shelf in the Guild library. I spend all day there, so it would be hard not to notice it." Ezreal reached out and tapped the cover of the magic book.

"There's no need to be so agitated, is there? I looked at this book carefully; it's not black magic, it's just very difficult to cultivate."

Judging by the old man's expression, Ezreal suddenly felt that just looking at this magic book was like committing a crime.

Hmm… based on the degree of his staring, it's at least three years to start.

"This is forbidden magic!" Makarov said loudly, the whiskers on both sides of his lips trembling.

He felt that what he needed wasn't hot water, but blood pressure medication.

"Then why not destroy it and leave it in the library?" Ezreal retorted seriously.

"Because it's not black magic!" Makarov angrily slammed the table, his eyes wide as copper bells, and veins popping out on both sides of his forehead!

For the first time, he felt that this young man, who had never caused trouble since joining the Guild, was so infuriating.

"Then you see, the problem comes back. Since it's not black magic and is kept in the library, then it means people can learn it. Calm down, calm down." Ezreal, afraid that the old man would get too angry, quickly pushed the teacup back into his hand.

"The nature is different. Do you know what this magic can do?" Makarov stared, his tone very serious.

"I've read it." Ezreal nodded.

"Life Alchemy, ancient magic."

"Simply put, it can integrate various substances into a living body, changing the living body's original form or life level."

"For example, fusing a bird and a dog, erasing the consciousness and soul of one of the lives, can create a dog with wings, or a bird with a dog's head."

"For example, fusing items with magical properties with lifeless beings can, in theory, artificially create magical life."

"For example, injecting a soul into inanimate matter, giving it true life."

The more Ezreal spoke, the brighter his eyes became, but the more Makarov listened, the uglier his face became.

"You know the effects of the magic very well. But do you know how many people in history have mastered it? And what were the consequences for those people?" Makarov stared at Ezreal, without blinking.

"Including Mephisto the Great Mage who created this magic, only 9 people have mastered this magic in nearly a thousand years."

"Without exception, all of these people eventually went mad."
