Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Obtaining the Remnant Map

Chapter 68: Obtaining the Remnant Map

With a gust of wind, the massive body of the Amethyst Winged Lion King approached Yao Yan, who could even feel the scorching breath coming from its maw.

Its heterochromatic beast eyes were fixed on the pill bottle in Yao Yan's hand. It knew exactly what it meant—if its cub consumed it, perhaps the deficiency in its bloodline could be remedied, giving it a chance to step into the ranks of Tier 6 magical beasts in the future.

As for Tier 7… the Amethyst Winged Lion King had never dared to consider it. Even for itself, such a breakthrough was nearly impossible. It was far too difficult.

For magical beasts, their bloodline was both an advantage and a shackle. Breaking through meant practically being reborn. Unless one possessed an extraordinary item like a Tier 7 Transformation Pill, the only option was to wait—accumulating energy over the course of centuries, hoping for a natural evolution.

But most magical beasts would die long before that day ever came.

Yao Yan looked at the pill bottle in his hand with satisfaction and smiled. "This Violet Crystal Origin Pill has reached Tier 6 in potency. The energy it released when formed nearly shattered my cauldron."

He hadn't expected to refine a Tier 6 pill by accident. Although the burst of power wasn't particularly violent—less so than many standard low-grade Tier 6 pills—the resulting phenomenon was enough to classify it at that level.

Moreover, the pill boosted innate potential. Even among Tier 6 pills, it could be considered top quality.

The most important part—it was his own original creation, not inherited or borrowed.

That alone was something he could be proud of.

He continued, smiling, "This pill uses the Companion Amethyst Source as its core, perfectly tailored for your species. It should greatly nourish your cub's origin and significantly increase its chances of reaching Tier 6 in the future."

As he spoke, he handed the pill to the Amethyst Winged Lion King.

"Human… thank you!"

The lion's eyes shone with delight. It hadn't expected Yao Yan to actually produce a Tier 6 pill. Logically, someone with only a Da Dou Shi's Dou Qi shouldn't be able to manage that—but he had done it.

The lion carefully took the bottle in its mouth and rushed over to its slightly dazed cub, gently offering it the still-warm pill.

The moment the little cub saw it, it swallowed the pill eagerly in a single gulp.

Awwooo~

As the medicine entered its belly, a soothing warmth spread through the cub's entire body. It let out a cry, and violet flames burst from its body. Circles of fire pulsed outward, and the small red horn on its head ignited with purple fire.

The sight made the Amethyst Winged Lion King beam with joy. Every lion of its kind possessed an innate violet flame—awakening it earlier indicated stronger talent and purer origin.

Before this, the cub clearly couldn't achieve that. But with just one pill, it had undergone a complete transformation.

The power of alchemists truly astonished the lion.

"A Tier 6 pill's effect is far more than what you see," Yao Yan said, his soul power observing the changes within the cub. "Its body can't fully absorb the pill yet. Most of the medicinal energy will remain dormant until its next breakthrough, where it will erase the bottleneck completely."

The lion, sensing its cub's rapidly growing life force, was elated. Turning to Yao Yan, it roared in excitement, "Human, from now on, you are this king's friend. If you ever need anything, come find me in the Magic Beast Mountain Range!"

What's with the shouting? Yao Yan looked at the overly enthusiastic lion and smiled. "So… where's my friend?"

He looked around and saw no sign of Cai Die or Ling'er.

"The human cave you mentioned was located today. They've gone there already—just a little slow. But with that woman's strength, there shouldn't be any danger…"

The lion briefly explained.

Yao Yan nodded and waited patiently. He still trusted Cai Die's strength—though lacking combat experience, she was a genuine Seven-Star Dou Huang. Even against a peak Dou Huang, she wouldn't be too outmatched. At worst, she could always retreat.

Besides, in the Magic Beast Mountain Range, any disturbance would reach them soon. The lion's status as the region's ruler wasn't for show—otherwise, it wouldn't have stopped them at all during their first crossing.

About half an hour later, two streaks of light appeared on the horizon.

Cai Die and the lion's subordinate had returned.

"Young Master?!"

"Ying-ying!"

As they landed, both of them rushed to Yao Yan—Ling'er leapt directly onto his shoulder, cooing and demanding snacks, while Cai Die was more reserved, her eyes gentle and filled with relief.

"You're late. Did something happen?" Yao Yan handed Ling'er a bottle of plant essence, then turned to Cai Die with curiosity.

She nodded and explained, "We ran into three Dou Wangs. They'd been staying near that area. To avoid interfering with your business, I waited for them to leave before entering the cave. Thankfully, all went well."

She handed him her storage ring with a bright, confident smile.

"Rapid progress," Yao Yan praised, giving her a thumbs-up. He knew she'd taken his words to heart—otherwise, she might've just threatened the Dou Wangs with her sister's signature line: "Move or die!"

Three Dou Wangs could pose serious trouble for even a Dou Huang.

At that level, power wasn't just determined by cultivation—but also by mastery of battle techniques. A Dou Wang with a powerful Earth-tier technique could threaten a Dou Huang. It wasn't rare for several Dou Wangs to kill one.

Only upon reaching Dou Zong did the real gap emerge—and even then, the difference between one star could be immense.

Cai Die smiled and replied sweetly, "It's thanks to your teaching, Young Master."

Yao Yan's focus shifted to the storage ring. Inside, he quickly found the remnant map. With a flash of light, a palm-sized piece of unknown material appeared in his hand. It was etched with seemingly random patterns, and in one corner was a faint lotus-shaped mark.

Though faded with time, the image was still discernible—a black lotus, its surface covered in a thin layer of black flame. The more Yao Yan stared at it, the more he felt an eerie, otherworldly aura.

Grrr!

Ling'er saw the map and instantly flared up. Her eyes were full of hostility, baring her fangs at it.

Yao Yan reached out to soothe her, then took out another remnant map from his storage ring. This one lacked a lotus mark, but the material and artistic style were identical. Clearly, the two belonged to the same map.

With a bigger smile, Yao Yan pulled out a jade box and carefully stored both pieces inside.

"Young Master, is that a treasure map?" Cai Die asked curiously, her eyes blinking brightly.

Yao Yan nodded. "Yes. It's tied to a very important treasure."

To an alchemist, the Purifying Lotus Demonic Flame was indeed the greatest treasure—but one laced with immense danger. If mishandled, it could cost him his life. Remembering when the heavenly flame would eventually emerge in the original story, he knew he had to train faster.

Flame Mantra!

His heart burned with anticipation, though he quickly calmed himself. After a deep breath, he took out a high-tier Xuan-rank flight technique—Purple Cloud Wings. After examining it, he turned to Cai Die and said softly, "Once I master this, we'll leave this place."

He could hardly wait.
