"Why are you still following me, Father? Do you have business at my manor that I wasn't informed of?" Elric asked with a hint of suspicion.
They had reached the crossroads where the path split, one heading toward the Duke and Duchess' estate, and the other leading toward his manor. To Elric's surprise, his father didn't turn toward his own gates.
Calixto didn't even turn his head, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. "I'm not following you, Elric. I am simply going to get my wife."
Elric nearly choked on the dry evening air. He pulled the reins sharply, causing his horse to let out a protest of a whinny as it skidded to a halt. "Mother? Mother is at my home? Right now?"
Calixto slowed his mount, finally looking at his son with a glimmer of amusement in his pale eyes. "She mentioned this morning, quite firmly I might add, that she intended to meet with your fiancé. She said she wanted to see the 'situation' for herself without you hovering like a mother hen."
