Freya watched the entire scene unfold, profoundly displeased.
She could only observe, unable to interfere. If she could do anything, she would have killed Kalistro on the spot.
Soon, the second confirmation of Evo's information revealed itself.
Talier, now holding his blade against Elizabeth's throat, prevented her from disrupting Kalistro.
Honestly, the two women looked at him and weren't even surprised anymore. It was expected.
After discovering that the instructor was truly a traitor, finding out Talier was another one stopped being shocking.
– Ravina, who was it that recommended Kalistro as an instructor?
Freya asked, looking at her friend beside her.
Ravina furrowed her brow, trying to recall how he had entered the academy.
– Now that I think about it… it was the Lawander family who submitted his recommendation!
Freya, upon hearing that name, connected the dots.
– Baltazar's family!
The two exchanged glances, reaching the same conclusion.
House Lawander was a marquess household in severe decline.
After its patriarch vanished shortly after the attempted kidnapping of the former princess, everything crumbled.
They were never incriminated due to lack of evidence, but it was clear many believed they were involved.
– Arrrrrrr, how did I not connect this sooner?!
– I made a mistake!
Ravina berated herself, exasperated by her oversight.
She was a smart woman, one who rarely made such errors. And as someone prideful, she scolded herself internally for letting something so important slip.
Freya, seeing her friend tormenting herself, comforted her.
– Don't worry, Ravi. You're the one who handles almost everything in the academy. It's normal to let something slip among the millions of tasks you juggle.
Freya was right. Ravina had been burdened with countless responsibilities since the academy's foundation.
But she enjoyed what she did, so she never complained.
Their conversation was cut off by a pained yet commanding shout.
– Don't move!
Both of them snapped their heads toward the source. Evo, collapsed on the ground, could barely remain conscious. Even so, he roared at Kalistro, who was already positioning the blade to sever the heads of Freya and Ravina's copies.
– Ev!
Freya called his name, filled with sorrow and pain.
For the first time, Evo's eyes showed fear and despair — something the two witches had never seen.
It had never happened before. His gaze was always full of pride and confidence. But now, his half-closed eyes revealed something desolate… hopeless.
– Your eyes… they hurt my chest so much…
Freya placed a hand over her heart, overwhelmed by anguish at seeing him like that.
Ravina was no different, her face marked with sadness as she looked at Evo with love and distress.
Soon, the corrosion and torrents of blood returned to his body.
Evo vomited blood uncontrollably, and now his arms were fragmenting even faster.
Freya and Ravina pleaded — even knowing he couldn't hear them — that he stop.
– Please, enough, Ev… look at your condition!
Freya begged, her eyes welling up.
– Eylam, it's okay, we're okay… so stop!
Ravina implored as well. But nothing they said mattered. The result wouldn't change.
Then came the final moment — the one where his heart would finally break.
The clean sound of the blade echoed through the place, followed by the dull thuds of the heads falling before Evo's knees.
His eyes were lifeless. His face, frozen and cold, displayed no emotion.
But his heart was the opposite — tears streamed down those dull eyes that once shone so brightly they could blind.
Now dead. Exhausted.
The real Freya and Ravina didn't even bother looking at their heads being cut.
They knew they would never die to a worm like Kalistro.
All their attention was on Evo, who didn't know what they knew.
He didn't know the two of them were infinitely stronger than Kalistro and the invaders.
Evo still knew little about the world and had been thrown into this place, forced to live as if all of this were possible.
It wasn't his fault. He simply believed in what he understood.
– What they did to you was cruel, Ev…
Freya, now by his side, bit her lips, frustrated — and something more.
A deep, consuming rage.
Now she wanted to know who had been responsible for shattering his heart like that.
Freya's expression darkened.
– Goddess… who was responsible for this?
She asked into the empty air, her voice dangerous.
– "There's no point seeking revenge!"
The answer came exhausted.
Freya misunderstood and retorted, distressed:
– Are you going to protect that person?
Her eyes narrowed. She trusted and liked the Goddess, but would be deeply enraged if she was defending that bastard.
What she received was a sigh.
– "Ahrrrrrr! That's not what I meant."
– "The truth is… the one who did this to Evo is already dead."
Freya calmed slightly upon realizing she had misunderstood.
But another question arose.
– Who killed him?
She asked while trying to run her fingers through Evo's hair — even knowing she couldn't touch him, she repeated the gesture.
The entire scene was frozen, as if the film had stopped playing.
– "One day, you will know."
– "If I tell you now… certain people may get angry at me."
Freya simply nodded. There was nothing she could do, anyway.
And with the enemy dead, there was no way to destroy him with her own hands.
She could only lament not being the one to kill the filth who dared to hurt Evo.
– And do you know why Evo went through all of this?
The silence that followed was longer.
Freya waited. She didn't pressure or rush her.
– "Yes. I know."
Then Freya asked:
– And will you tell me?
– "Very well. I'll tell you."
The Goddess agreed.
– "It was all because of jealousy."
Freya became exasperated. Romantic jealousy could cause immense destruction — even wars…
– Evo was left in this state because of jealousy?
– "When you two come up here one day, I'll tell you what I can."
The Goddess reassured her.
Ravina, who had approached her side, called her softly — yet clearly.
– Freya…
Her voice was bitter but filled with tenderness.
– You know… after seeing all of this, especially the end, I've realized something.
Ravina revealed her thoughts.
Freya turned her attention to her friend, who watched Evo with gentle, sweet eyes.
– What is it, Ravina?
Freya asked, her voice hoarse and tired.
Ravina stepped closer to Evo, offering a faint smile.
– Eylam, he—
The Goddess interrupted, answering for her:
– "Evo… he is in love with you two."
– "He loves you deeply. As a man."
Freya froze. Sure, she knew Evo liked them — but loving them like that? That was new.
The Goddess continued:
– "I thought you would never realize it until he spoke for himself, but…"
She paused for a moment.
– "But I see Ravina has noticed. I'm surprised."
Freya looked at Ravina, whose eyes remained on Evo.
She also turned her gaze back to him, remembering the moments the three shared.
– Why didn't he ever tell us?
Ravina asked, and the Goddess replied as if it were obvious:
– "You two never understand when it's genuine affection, since you're so used to receiving disgusting looks from others. You're inexperienced when it comes to true love."
– "He didn't confess for a few obvious reasons."
– "First… Eylam still thinks he's a teenager, even though the sum of his ages technically makes him an adult."
Freya cut in, confused:
– What do you mean, 'the sum of his ages makes him an adult'?
The Goddess realized she had spoken too much and panicked.
– "D-Don't mind that! Let's stay on what matters."
She had almost made a huge blunder. Nyra would certainly come lecture her again.
Freya grew even more curious, but the Goddess didn't let her comment, continuing:
– "Evo believes he is still not worthy of being with you."
– "And lastly… he is afraid."
This time, Ravina asked:
– Afraid of what?
The answer came soft but heavy:
– "He's afraid you two will reject him… and push him away."
– "So he chose to bury that love deep inside his heart."
– "And leave things as they are."
Then the Goddess asked:
– "I am curious."
– "Now that you know the truth… what will you two do?"
