#5045. Fear gradually spread

"Yes, yes, that's the fear. I am the Joker, the Dancing Joker. Be afraid! I will eat all the kids in Gotham City one by one!"

For the first time, Pennywise received such a delicious power of fear, it was truly irresistible!

He was almost completely absorbed in it, and even the severed head in his hand fell unnaturally into the sewer, only to be picked up by a limb he conjured up!

Pennywise seemed to recall the first time he tasted fear, the terrified expressions of the children, their unparalleled fear of themselves, their screams and roars—all of it sounded so melodious.

Now it felt as if that day's scene was repeating itself, and Pennywise couldn't help but take a deep breath.

An overwhelming sense of fear gripped Jona's heart. She hadn't expected Louis to be dead, and to die so tragically, devoured by this monster, which was now targeting her and using Louis to deceive her.

This is a terrifying monster!

While gripped by fear, Jona somehow found a surge of strength and, taking advantage of Pennywise's momentary lapse in concentration, forcefully pulled her arm free, breaking free from his grasp.

Jona's screams echoed throughout the night. She was going crazy. She ran and ran, trying to get away from that dark sewer, which had become a nightmare in her life. It wasn't just the terrifying clown monster Pennywise that had devastated her, but also Louis's death. Louis's head had been clearly seen by that despicable clown, and every detail, from the fear on his face to the smallest nuances, was so vivid in her mind...

She got rid of Pennywise, which seemed to be her luck, or perhaps it was Pennywise's doing.

Jona ran wildly through the park, not wanting to stop for a moment. Suddenly, a dense multitude of red balloons appeared in front of her. A gust of wind blew past the red balloons, and when she turned around abruptly, she saw faces painted with red dye. Jona wondered if it was just her imagination, but she found that those faces were smiling at her.

This is so bizarre. How could so many strange things happen tonight?

Jona was terrified, so terrified, her heart felt like it was going to explode. Just then, the red balloons suddenly burst one after another.

A deep voice, one that Jona could never escape, rang out—the voice of that horrible clown.

"Jona, run! You'll never escape my grasp. I am the Joker, the Dancing Joker Pennywise. I will be your eternal nightmare, and Gotham City's eternal nightmare..."

The image of the Joker flashed through Jordan's mind, along with that hideous face he could never forget, and the greedy look in his yellow pupils made Jona tremble.

...

One day later, Grant Park.

Two police cars arrived at the park entrance, and seven or eight police officers got out and conducted a thorough search inside and outside the park, but they did not seem to find anything of significance.

The person in charge of this mission was a middle-aged black man named Willis, nicknamed "Desperate Saburo" because he was more serious and hardworking than anyone else, which made him a thorn in the side of various gangs.

But Venice was not afraid at all; his heart was filled with hatred and anger, and he would not tolerate any evil, unfairness, or injustice.

Because his entire family was destroyed by those gangsters, a person with no ties is terrifying, but such a person, who is also filled with anger and conviction, is even more terrifying.

"Captain Willis, we haven't found anything useful, nor have we found any strange clowns."

A police officer came over and reported to Willis!

This answer made Willis frown; it was clearly not the answer he wanted.

This morning they received a call from a girl named Jonah, who reported that there was a terrifying dancing clown in Grant Park named Pennywise who claimed to have killed her childhood friend, a high school student named Louis, who was also her classmate.

The little girl's expression and words were absolutely truthful; everything he said was genuine. This made Willis wonder if a second, twisted clown had appeared in Grant Park. This was definitely not a good joke.

Willis looked grim, as if he had thought of something—something he least wanted to mention, or something that, once he did, had become his greatest nightmare and the source of his conviction.

In short, Gotham City only needs one Joker. No, it should be said that Gotham City cannot have any Jokers. All Jokers must be eliminated.

"The little girl in the morning recounted the events of last night in detail. I could tell she was very frightened, but she still managed to explain the whole story clearly."

Willis said seriously, "We've searched Grant Park, but there's one place we haven't searched: the sewers!"

"Investigate! We must get to the bottom of this today. I've also spoken with the parents of that boy named Louis, and Louis didn't come home last night. Perhaps a clown really did kill that boy and has been lurking in Grant Park, committing murders!"

Willis's voice was resolute, but the police officer beside him hesitated and said, "It just feels a bit too far-fetched. Pennywise the clown who only appears at night and eats children, a monster hiding in the sewers with yellow eyes, a white-painted face, and Mediterranean hair... Oh, are you sure this isn't a fairy tale?"

"Compared to all that, I think you should obey my orders and go check the sewers right now. Also, remind everyone to be careful, take the safety off your pistols, and get your searchlights ready. The environment in the sewers is not as good as up here. If there is some weirdo and the clown suddenly attacks us, we might not be able to react in time. We must try to have zero casualties!"

Willis thought about it a lot and considered everything very thoroughly!

The policeman went over to make the notification, but he was also muttering to himself, "This is impossible. What clown who can conjure up countless arms, what limbs like spiders and grasshoppers? It's all a fantasy. And they said there were red balloons everywhere, but I haven't seen any red balloons. Captain Willis is really something, why did he make us do such pointless things!"

Not far from where the police were searching, a red balloon with a smiley face painted in white suddenly floated up from a sewer. It was very eye-catching. Under the gaze of a curious child, it slowly floated over. The child couldn't resist reaching out and grabbing the white string of the red balloon.
