Chapter 111 - Chapter 111: Don’t Go Throwing Yourself at Him!

Whis had only trained Gran for twelve years. Even with Gran's monstrous talent, the gap in training time alone put him at a massive disadvantage. Many gifted fighters across the universes had trained for hundreds, even thousands of years.

Some ancient beings had lived for millions—tens of millions—of years.

Monsters of that level existed in every universe.

And since this upcoming "Candidate God of Destruction Battle Royale" carried punishment for the lowest-ranked universes, none of them would hold back.

Thinking of this, Whis lifted his staff and projected the earlier battle between Gran and Orma.

Everyone looked up at the scene.

Once they finished watching

Whis shook his head. "That guy's only got brute strength. His martial arts are pathetic."

Vados nodded. "Forget you, Gran—even our Universe 6 fighters could handle him easily."

Beerus crossed his arms with a snort. "That damned rat actually sent trash like this? How little does he think of Universe 7?"

Shin shrank his neck. "Isn't it normal others look down on us? Our universe is weak."

Old Kai slammed a fist onto Shin's head. "And whose fault is that besides you and Lord Beerus?!"

Beerus & Shin: "..."

The gods all gave their evaluation—Orma was someone who couldn't even control his own power properly.

Whis turned to Gran, face serious. "This guy's martial arts are terrible. He's definitely not the strongest in Universe 4. You won't be facing trash like this when the real battle starts. Be mentally prepared."

Gran nodded. He knew that.

With punishment involved, every universe would throw everything they had into nurturing their candidate.

Gran might even get sent into the ring.

But so what? Fighting strong opponents was what thrilled him the most—especially with Saiyan blood burning in his veins.

Seeing Gran's excitement, Whis and the others exchanged looks. It seemed the boy really did enjoy the "special battle" the Omni-King personally prepared for him.

"Wait a moment!"

Old Kai suddenly shouted, stunned. "Did you say—ten years from now, the universes will hold a Candidate God of Destruction Battle Royale?!"

Beerus frowned at him. "You may be old, but don't tell me you're deaf."

Everyone: "..."

"Did none of you notice—there's punishment for the last three places!!" Old Kai trembled.

Measured by "Human Development Levels," Universe 6 and Universe 7 were ranked second-last and third-last.

Obviously, the Omni-King had considered this. It was a warning to both universes.

"Damn it!"

Champa finally reacted. Grabbing Vados' shoulders, he panicked. "I don't even have a candidate yet! Am I going to be erased?!"

Then his eyes snapped toward Gran, hopeful. "Vados—there's no rule saying two universes can't share the same candidate, right?!"

Gran's talent was undeniable. The whole battle existed because of him.

If he could recruit Gran as Universe 6's candidate too, his universe would be safe.

At his words

Everyone froze.

Gran blinked, pointing at himself. This fat cat wanted him to become both Universe 6 and Universe 7's candidate?

Then fight for both universes ten years later?

"Lord Champa, that won't work." Vados frowned.

"Why not?!" Champa roared.

"Do you still not understand the purpose of this battle?"

Vados said seriously, "There must be exactly twelve candidates. No more. No fewer."

Purpose?

Champa and Beerus quickly pieced it together.

This whole battle existed solely to temper Gran. If there were fewer fighters, how would it temper him?

A universe could technically recruit two candidates—but only one could enter the actual battle.

If too many candidates entered and all ganged up on Gran, that would defeat the entire point.

"Damn it…"

Champa finally understood. The disciple he trained would become nothing more than a stepping stone for Gran.

Meanwhile, Gran looked completely lost.

Purpose?

Was there some deeper purpose beyond the competition itself?

"You fat pig. Stop yapping and go find a candidate. Ten years passes quick." Beerus laughed.

"What are you so smug about?!" Champa clenched his fists. "You think Gran will just win? With your personality, he'll probably get ganged up on by the other eleven candidates!"

Gran: "..."

Actually… that probably would happen.

Beerus' expression darkened. He earned his title as "Strongest Destroyer God" by being the last one standing in a massive brawl where everyone else beat him senseless… and survived.

Was Gran about to repeat his history?

"Gran, this time you might have it rough."

Whis' voice was heavy.

"The other universes aren't like us. You've been trained since childhood—but they'll pick the strongest warriors in their universes."

Then Whis continued:

"Remember what I said before—four universes have a Human Development Level above 7. Their strongest fighters will be terrifying."

BOOM.

Everyone shuddered.

Universe 7's level barely passed 3. Those four universes had more than double.

If their average was that high… their strongest would be unimaginable.

Gran only grew more excited.

"Those four idiots… how did they even manage that?" Champa muttered.

To him, aside from Beerus and Quitela, the other Destroyers weren't worth mentioning.

"Because they actually manage their universes properly," Vados teased.

"Can you stop mocking me for one day?!"

Champa's chubby cheeks trembled with every word.

"Anyway, instead of getting mad, maybe focus on finding a candidate? If you rank last, you'll be the one erased."

Vados giggled behind her hand.

"You!!"

Champa gritted his teeth. "Then why are we still standing here?! Let's go home and find a fighter!!"

He grabbed Vados, ready to leave—

But Gran stopped him.

"Lord Champa, I have a suggestion."

Everyone turned. What did this kid want to say?

"What suggestion?" Champa frowned.

"I can point you in the right direction for finding a candidate. Want to hear it?"

Gran smirked slightly. He didn't mind giving Champa a hint—Beerus' twin deserved at least that much help.

"Fine, say it."

Champa perked up.

Beerus and Whis listened closely.

"Lord Champa, why don't you fight me first? After that, I'll tell you."

Gran cracked his knuckles.

He had been wanting to fight this fat cat ever since getting ambushed in a sack years ago.

He knew he still couldn't win—Champa was Beerus' twin. There was no way his talent was bad.

But he wanted to know how far he'd come.

Always fighting Beerus gave him zero frame of reference—he just got beaten.

And Orma had been too weak. Fighting an actual Destroyer was different.

"Are you asking for a beating?"

Champa's eyes sharpened with divine coldness.

"Don't tell me you think reaching god-tier dimensional strength means you can compare to a real Destroyer God."

"Gran, don't be reckless!" Old Kai rushed forward. "Your power is still way below Lord Champa!"

"Yeah, Gran!! Listen to ancestor-sama! Don't go throwing yourself at him!!" Shin panicked.

He couldn't understand why anyone liked getting beaten.

Beerus and Whis stayed silent—completely indifferent.

"You're not going to stop your candidate?" Champa pointed at Beerus, then at Gran.

"If he wants a beating, give him one." Beerus shrugged.

He had pummeled Gran for years. The kid finally broke through, then finally met a god-tier opponent…

And it turned out the guy was garbage.

No wonder he wasn't satisfied.

"…Fine."

Champa laughed coldly. "Don't come crying later."

He lifted off into the sky.

Gran exhaled deeply and rose to meet him.

"Don't say I'm bullying you. I'll only use power equal to yours." Champa cracked his knuckles.

"Thank you, Lord Champa."

Having a fair gauge of strength was exactly what he needed.

Both floated above the Sacred World of the Kai. Ancient Egyptian-style garments fluttered in the wind. Divine pressure radiated from both bodies.

HUMMM

They hadn't even exchanged blows yet. Their dimensional pressure alone made the heavens scream.

Wind roared. The ground shook.

"How terrifying! This is nothing like Gran's fight with that Universe 4 guy!" Shin's teeth chattered.

"Well of course! Gran and Lord Champa are battle gods! They were born to fight! How could that Universe 4 trash compare?" Old Kai snapped.

BOOOOM!

The sky grew heavier.

A battle of gods was about to erupt.
