"Lord Beerus, Lord Quitela has been staring at us this whole time," Whis commented again.
"I see him!"
Beerus rose from where he'd been standing in the corner and began walking toward Quitela.
As soon as he moved, the surrounding Gods of Destruction instinctively cleared a path for him. Yet when he reached the front of Universe 11's God of Destruction — Vermoud — the clown made no intention of stepping aside.
"Excuse me. Make way."
Beerus politely pushed Vermoud aside with a single hand — and the power of the strongest God of Destruction made Vermoud stumble back several steps.
"Beerus, you bastard! Are you looking to die?!" Vermoud exploded with rage.
But Beerus didn't spare him a glance. He walked straight toward Quitela.
A purple cat and a yellow-green mouse — their eyes locked, and the air around them seemed to freeze.
Vermoud, who had been furious a moment ago, suddenly lost all anger and instead put on a face that said he was ready to enjoy the show.
Everyone present knew it — this cat and this mouse were natural-born enemies!
"Dead mouse, why the hell are you staring at me?" Beerus crossed his arms, his voice icy.
"If you weren't staring at me, how would you know I was staring at you?" Quitela answered calmly.
"..."
Beerus had no comeback. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about Quitela today… but he couldn't pinpoint what.
"It's about time. Everyone, head inside."
The little angel girl — Kusu — spoke up, then led toward the Grand Zeno Palace.
The other angels followed with their respective Gods of Destruction.
Quitela broke eye contact with Beerus and took a couple of steps forward. Then, glancing back, he said:
"Beerus, after the meeting, interested in a rematch? Arm wrestling?"
"Tch. You only ever beat me once, and it was arm wrestling at that."
Beerus curled his lip in disdain.
"So… are you scared?"
"Me? Scared? Don't tell me you think one fluke win means you can keep beating me."
Beerus rolled his shoulders — crack crack — his joints popping loudly.
Whis remained expressionless. He knew exactly what his God of Destruction was like.
"Then it's settled. After the meeting, don't run away."
Quitela turned around. As he did, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
I hope your candidate is still alive when you return…
Quitela and Cognac walked into the palace.
Moments ago the entrance had been packed with people — now only Beerus and Whis remained.
"Whis… did that damn mouse break through again?" Beerus frowned.
"Most likely not."
Whis shook his head. "Lord Quitela is indeed talented, but only a few tens of millions of years have passed since your last arm-wrestling match. That's not enough time for another breakthrough."
After all, not everyone was a monster like Beerus — whose power increased even while he slept.
"So his strength is still at early Stage Seven of the Divine Realm?"
"That should be correct."
"Tch. Garbage."
Beerus scoffed. He truly didn't understand where Quitela got his confidence.
"Let's go."
The two entered the Grand Zeno Palace as well.
Universe 7 — Earth
Half a day had passed since Beerus and Whis left.
After lunch, Gran flew to Kame House. He found that Kid Goku had already run into Krillin — and they'd successfully brought Launch along.
So he turned back toward the sky. Beerus and Whis being gone for half a day made him uneasy.
The Lookout
"What is he doing here again?"
Mr. Popo stood at the edge of the Lookout, his ancient, emotionless eyes flashing briefly with helplessness.
Tap… tap…
Gran landed on the platform. This was his second time visiting. The Kami was also present.
Kami was drenched in sweat. Over the past few days of watching the lower world, he had already seen Gran. He also knew Gran had two companions — though he didn't see them now.
"Y-you… who are you?!"
The divine aura radiating from Gran was overwhelmingly vast. Under it, Kami nearly buckled to his knees.
"Kami, this man is a god ranked above the Kai."
Mr. Popo spoke calmly.
Above the Kai?
Kami, as someone who could communicate with the Other World, knew well the legends about the Kais.
He sucked in a sharp breath.
Immediately he bowed deeply.
"Greetings, my lord!"
"You may address him as the Candidate God of Destruction," Popo added.
"G-greetings, Candidate God of Destruction!"
Kami had no idea what that meant, only that it was something far above his level.
"No need to be so formal."
Gran waved dismissively. His eyes, however, remained fixed on Popo.
Guessing at Gran's purpose, Kami bowed again and quickly retreated into the inner hall.
"Mr. Popo, my name is Gran. About before… I apologize."
"It's fine," Popo replied expressionlessly.
And nothing more.
Gran scratched his cheek awkwardly.
So… Popo knew he'd died once?
That made sense. As Whis said, Popo was technically an angel. There was no way he wouldn't notice.
"What brings you here?" Popo finally asked.
"Earlier today, the Grand Zeno convened a meeting of the Gods of Destruction. Do you know why?"
Gran finally voiced his reason for coming.
"The Grand Zeno… summoned a meeting?"
Even Popo, ever-calm and unfazed, was visibly surprised.
"Yes. Half a day ago, Whis took Lord Beerus out of Universe 7."
"..."
Popo fell silent for a moment, then shook his head.
"Grand Zeno's temperament is unpredictable. I do not know his purpose."
"Ah?"
Gran had hoped this ancient angel might know something…
"If Mr. Popo doesn't know, then I—"
Suddenly
"Someone has invaded Universe 7."
Popo's head snapped up.
"What?!"
Gran's eyes widened.
"He came using a Warp Cube. He is not from our universe. His strength… should be around Stage Three of the Divine Realm."
Popo revealed everything he sensed.
