Back in her class, Cindy sat twirling her pen around her fingers , obviously bored, Celine wasn't with her because she left for the school garden leaving Cindy to head back to class.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with an incoming text from Cathy, she smiled, anticipating a fun conversation or plans for some kinda hangout, But her smile faltered as she read the message: "Hey, meet me on the rooftop. I need to talk to you about something."
Cindy's curiosity was piqued, and a nagging feeling settled in the pit of her stomach. She quickly typed out a response, "What's up? Is everything okay?" but Cathy didn't respond.
Shrugging off the feeling, Cindy stood up to leave the class.
"Where are you off to?" came the teacher's voice and Cindy's eyes immediately went to her.
The woman who was her class history teacher appeared to be in her early thirties, her dark brown hair was pulled back in a neat bun, revealing a pair of wire rimmed spectacles perched on the bridge of her nose.
Her eyes, a deep shade of brown stirred with suspicion as she stared at Cindy which made her a bit uncomfortable.
"I'm going to the restroom" Cindy said, and without another word, exited the classroom. Outside, she made her way to the rooftop, her sneakers echoing off the hallway lockers.
The sounds of the school's bustling hallways grew fainter as she climbed the stairs, replaced by an eerie silence.
As she pushed open the door to the rooftop, a chill wind swept past her, carrying the whispers of distant voices.
Cindy's heart stuttered as she stepped out onto the rooftop, her eyes scanning the area for Cathy. But it wasn't Cathy who stood waiting for her.
The figure stood near the rooftop's edge, her eyes fixed intently on Cindy. But something was horribly wrong. The girl's face was smeared with blood .
Cindy's mind recoiled in horror and her heart sank as she took in the girl's appearance. And that was when she recognised her.
"Alma, what...what happened to you?" Cindy stuttered, trying to keep her voice steady.
Alma's smile was a twisted, grotesque thing, her lips curling upward in a snarl. "You remember me, Cindy, just as Cathy did"
Alma's voice was low, menacing. Cindy's eyes widened in horror as Alma held up Cathy's phone , the screen displaying their earlier conversation.
"Noo what have you done?" Cindy whispered, her voice trembling with fear. Alma chuckled, the sound sending chills down Cindy's spine.
"You and your friends, you made my life a living hell. You bullied me, tormented me, made me feel like I was worthless."
Cindy stood frozen as she remembered who Alma was. She had been a quiet, reserved girl in their school, always keeping to herself.
Cindy and her friends , Cathy , and Celine had indeed bullied her, making fun of her clothes, her hair, her interests. But Cindy had never thought it would have such a profound impact on Alma.
"I...I'm sorry, Alma," Cindy stammered, trying to apologize.
But Alma's expression didn't change. Her eyes blazed with a fierce intensity, her smile growing wider. "Sorry? Sorry isn't enough, Cindy. You and your friends, you destroyed me. And now, it's my turn to destroy you."
As Alma raised her hand, Cindy felt an unseen force grab her, lifting her off the ground. She struggled and kicked, but Alma's telekinetic grip was unyielding. Cindy's heart racing, her mind screaming in terror.
The atmosphere on the rooftop was tense, heavy with an almost palpable sense of dread. The wind howled through the rooftop's railings, sounding like a chorus of lost souls. But below it, students passed by, laughing and chatting oblivious to the horror above .
Cindy's breath came in short gasps, her eyes fixed on Alma's twisted face. She tried screaming but no sound escaped her throat which was being gripped tightly by an unseen force.
Alma smiled as she watched Cindy struggle
"Don't fight it Cindy it's too late now. You're mine to kill"
With a flick of her wrist, Alma sent her flying across the rooftop. Cindy's body sailed over the rooftop's edge, her arms flailing wildly in a desperate bid to grab onto something, anything.
Time seemed to slow as Cindy's body hurtled toward the ground far, far below. Her world narrowed to a single, terrifying thought: "Is.. this how I die.
Her mind flickered with memories of her with Cathy and Celine in the music room with Lily where they joked , sang and laughed .
Cindy's eyes welled, a small bitter smile formed on her lips.
Then, there was a dull, sickening thud.
