Eric and all the decision makers arrived at the council building within minutes. Elders whispered among themselves.
Sera walked beside Eric, wearing the engagement ring proudly. Her thoughts drifted back to Charles. She had stopped briefly before leaving the arena. His eyes had been hollow, his posture stiff, holding himself together by sheer will. "I'm sorry," she had told him quietly. I… I'll come see you," she had added.
Charles had simply nodded. "You don't have to apologize for the sins of others."
Eric didn't even bother stepping into the building before turning sharply to John. "What's the problem?" Eric asked.
"Alpha, we have a traitor among us here and we need to have it handled before we can make any decisions."
Eric's body went taut instantly. "John," he said slowly, dangerously, "you better be absolutely sure of what you are talking about."
That statement carried weight.
