Chapter 30 - between the shadows

Among the papers, she found an old letter, written in a shaky hand "To whoever finds this letter, know that the truth is hidden in Lilia's memory, and that the family's past holds secrets far greater than you can imagine. Do not trust those around you; danger never sleeps."

Celine's hands trembled as she read. It was clear that the letter had been written by Maryam, Lillia's biologic mother, or perhaps by someone else very close to her.

Outside the cabin, the mystery continued to thicken. Faint sounds pierced the silence of the night, footsteps devoid of mercy, and eyes watching their every move from within the shadows of the trees. Yet Celine, her heart filled with resolve, knew that this battle was not only about saving her sister, but about uncovering the secrets of a family long buried beneath layers of deception and obscurity.

In the darkness of the night, they sat around an old table coated in dust, the room filled with the scent of aged wood. The scattered documents and letters before them looked like a complex map of an enigmatic past yet to be uncovered. Celine scrutinized every word, trying to connect each piece of the puzzle, while Eva watched with sharp, gleaming eyes, considering every possibility of betrayal and danger.

Eva spoke in a low voice:"

_These letters show that someone has been watching Lilia since birth, perhaps even before that. And it is clear that Marcus, despite everything, was torn between protecting her and protecting the family's secrets."

Celine nodded slowly, then asked:"

_But who are these people chasing us? And what are they truly afraid of?"

Eva replied:"

_They are part of a secret organization seeking to control unnatural abilities in children. Lilia is not just a child; she is a primary target."

A movement outside caught their attention. Celine lifted her head quickly and pointed toward the window, where a swift shadow vanished among the trees.

She said sharply:"

_We don't have time to waste. We must move now."

She carefully placed the papers into her bag, then stood with Eva, their gazes locked with determination. This was no longer just about saving Lilia, but a battle against hidden forces that controlled many destinies.

They left the cabin quietly, yet deep within them the sound of conflict was rising, and the countdown had already begun.

They moved out of the cabin lightly and cautiously, their feet touching the damp ground with muffled sounds, the night surrounding them like a black curtain behind which everything disappeared. Their eyes were fixed forward, yet deep within they tracked every movement, sensing danger in every breath of air and in every shadow shifting among the trees.

Suddenly, from behind a bush, men with harsh features appeared, dressed in dark uniforms, their eyes carrying a merciless gleam. They closed the circle quickly, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the open space.

Celine raised her hand swiftly and shouted:" Eva, watch out!"

But the first man was faster. He lunged at them like a deadly shadow, and a silent fight erupted, stifled cries and the sounds of combat mingling between wood and iron.

Eva used a device emitting a blue light and fired an electric stun blast at one of them. He screamed and staggered back. Celine, with boundless courage, pushed Lilia behind her and turned herself into a wall that shielded her.
