Chapter 23 -  Chapter 23 Out of patience

David wasn't as surprised as Leah imagined. He just smiled lightly over the phone:

"Leah, don't interfere in this matter. Even your third uncle, you can't control him, just let him handle it himself."

Leah looked at the hung-up phone screen, her face bewildered.

Not in control? Wasn't she complaining to him? You should know that in the past, not even a female fly could fly past her third uncle. As for her younger brother, Justin, since he was 16 years old, he had had a series of girlfriends, making her suspect that her third uncle was a monk who didn't like women.

But now, suddenly having a girlfriend by his side, wouldn't grandpa find it strange?

Wait, doesn't grandpa already know that her third uncle has a girlfriend?

Thinking of this, Leah immediately called her younger brother:

"Justin, do you know who your third uncle's girlfriend is?"

Justin immediately stiffened, his voice full of guilt:

"I don't know, I don't know anything."

"What are you stuttering about?"

"I'm not stuttering."

"Nothing?" Leah felt that this younger brother definitely knew something. After all, in the family, the only person close to the third uncle was this idiot.

This time, she came to New York, intending to call and ask the third uncle, but was flatly refused, without leaving a millimeter.

"No, sis, I won't say anymore. I have to film."

"Justin. The next scene is a kissing scene with Paul. You get ready."

Justin was startled, quickly covered the receiver, and said in a low voice:

"Sister, I'm hanging up I have to film."

"A kissing scene with Paul?" Leah was stunned, looking at the phone with suspicion.

She just heard that her younger brother was filming a kissing scene with a man. Was there a mistake?

 ---

Meanwhile, Emma was completely unaware that someone was frantically investigating her. She was just busy with her daily work.

This weekend, she decided to take Gabe to Alex's house for dinner. Hearing Alex say he wanted to cook for himself, he was a little surprised.

"He really cooks? He can definitely cook, right?"

Alex looked at him confidently:

"Don't believe it? Just wait and see."

Knowing that her younger brother was still a little worried about her sister's remarriage, Alex was willing to cook to make her younger brother feel more at ease.

"Sister, can he cook?" Gabe asked with a smirk.

Emma gently patted her younger brother's head:

"Don't be rude, remember to talk properly later."

The boy scratched his head and muttered:

"I know."

"Brother-in-law, let me help you."

Alex shook his head:

"No need. There's a gift for you on the sofa, go out and take a look."

Gabe was delighted. He still had a gift?

But very quickly, his face darkened. Did his brother-in-law want to bribe him?

*No way.* No matter how many brothers-in-law he had, he would always stand on his sister's side.

Emma was also surprised:

"You still buy gifts?"

"Gabe, aren't you going to thank your brother-in-law?"

"Thank you, brother-in-law," Gabe said as he jumped two or three steps towards the sofa, picked up the gift bag, and opened it. But as soon as he saw the gift inside, his face immediately stiffened.

The corners of his mouth twitched, not believing his eyes:

"High school exam questions?"

Emma thought this gift was very reasonable:

"These school exam questions are not easy to find. Gabe, remember to do them all so I can check."

"…"

If he had to give this brother-in-law a score, it would only be 98.5 points, because in his heart, he still had 1.5 sentences he wanted to curse.

 *Thank you so soon.*

Alex brought the food to the table, raised his eyebrows, and asked:

"Do you like it?"

Gabe smiled awkwardly, answering word by word:

"Very, very much."

"If you like it, that's great. I'll send it directly to you later. When you're done, I'll have someone pick it up, grade it, take notes, and send it back. If you don't understand anything, just ask me."

Emma said happily:

"Gabe, don't be silly, let's keep it like this from now on."

Gabe was silent, only thinking to himself: Brother-in-law is really cunning.

If Gabe had known that he would encounter this trick today, even if he was beaten to death, he would not have come to eat this meal.

He blamed himself. Why did he have to be so strong? Saying that he didn't like it, he probably wouldn't have had to endure so much trouble.

"Brother-in-law, when are you and my sister going to hold the wedding?" While his sister was on the phone, Gabe deliberately teased Alex.

The man raised his eyebrows and calmly replied:

"As long as your sister nods, anytime is fine."

"So that means my sister still hasn't agreed to hold the wedding with you, right?"

Alex didn't answer, just quietly glanced at him deeply, as if wanting him to understand.

Gabe raised the corner of his mouth, feeling relieved: It turns out that this brother-in-law still hasn't conquered his sister's heart. Such an arrogant attitude, in fact, is still being strictly controlled by my sister.

But he did not forget to remind:

"Oh, that's right, my sister's ex-husband has been coming to my house to look for me lately. After school, I came home several times and saw his car leaving. My sister did not know, nor did she want to see him, but I do not know what he is planning to do. Remember to protect my sister."

Alex's eyes immediately turned cold as ice, making Gabe shiver.

"Why did he come to find your mother?"

Gabe shook his head:

"I don't know. I have never met him, I just pass by every time."

He had asked his mother, but she always used the excuse that he was still young and did not need to be cared for to avoid him.

"Yeah, I know."

Looking at Alex's cold eyes that seemed to be filled with knives, Gabe shivered again. He had a feeling that Daniel was about to get into big trouble.

---

Today, Emma was very happy, perhaps because Gabe came to visit, making her feel happier.

But sometimes too much happiness turns into sadness.

Just stepped out of the bathtub, her feet were still wet, stepping on the soapy tile floor. In a flash, she lost her balance. Instinctively, she tried to grab something to keep her balance, but her body's reflexes were slower than her thoughts. The heavy fall made her whole body ache; all her senses seemed to shrink.

Originally, Alex was holding a plate of fruit and preparing to knock on the door when he heard a scream from inside. His expression immediately changed, and he hurriedly ran in.

The door was locked, and he turned the doorknob:

"Emma? Are you in there? Are you okay?"

Emma was in so much pain that she took a cold breath, realizing that her leg seemed to have swollen.

Immediately, the door was opened by Alex.

His expression was not very pleasant. He immediately took a towel to cover her, then carried her horizontally.

"Where are you hurt? Let's go to the hospital."

Before she could feel embarrassed, Emma shook her head repeatedly:

"No, I'm not going to the hospital. I just sprained my ankle."

Alex carefully placed her on the edge of the bed. He knelt on one knee, placed her small foot on his knee, and used his rough fingers to touch her swollen ankle.

"Does it hurt?"

Emma frowned slightly:

"It doesn't hurt."

Seeing that she didn't hurt, he used a little more force:

"How about this?"

She shrank her neck, nodding repeatedly:

"It hurts a little."

"I don't know if there are any bone injuries. You definitely won't go to the hospital?"

Emma's face immediately turned red, as if about to explode. She angrily said:

"... I won't forbid you to go anywhere. But first, get me some clothes."

Only then did Alex's eyes stop on her slender white legs and the towel covering her chest. His eyes darkened, his throat moved slightly, his voice hoarse:

"Wait for me, I'll go get it."

---

After a while of struggling, the doctor finally came and confirmed that her bones were fine, and both of them breathed a sigh of relief.

Alex looked at the girl who was already fast asleep on the bed, gently stroking her hair, his eyes filled with love.

At that moment, the phone on the bedside table rang. He had originally left it on vibrate, but when he saw the message on the screen, his eyes immediately turned cold.

Unknown number:

*[I gave you flowers yesterday, did you like it?]*

*[Emma, can you stop blocking me? I want to talk to you. I really know I'm wrong, can't you give me a chance to make it right?]*

Without receiving a reply, the other person refused to give up and called directly.

Alex picked up the phone, quietly left the room, and gently closed the door.

"Hello, do you think you're sick for calling someone else's wife at 10 p.m.? How much did the flowers you gave her cost? I'll transfer them to you tomorrow. Thank you for buying flowers for my wife, but you don't need to do that anymore."

Before Daniel could reply, Alex immediately deleted the message and blocked the number.

What he didn't know was that this was already the 10th number Emma had blocked.

Alex curled his lips and smiled coldly. *Keep bothering my wife over and over again, don't blame me for being too cruel.*

He had countless ways to make Daniel never dare to bother Emma again.
