I narrowed my eyes slightly, a flicker of irritation rising in my chest. I had thought I had successfully steered the conversation elsewhere, but Jiang Xinyue was sharper than I had given her credit for.
She had circled right back to the mysterious man in my life, refusing to let the topic go. This time, I didn't bother with indirect hints.
"Jiang Xinyue, my private life is not up for discussion," I said coldly.
She blinked, clearly stunned. For a brief second, her expression twisted into something almost ferocious, as if she couldn't believe I had refused her so bluntly.
Perhaps this was the first time in her life that someone had denied her an answer so directly. Whatever the reason, she quickly adjusted her expression, biting her lip and softening her gaze.
"Are you angry?" she asked quietly. "I didn't mean to probe. I was just curious."
I didn't care whether she was genuinely upset or simply pretending.
