Chapter 13 - Zev

RONAN'S POV

I couldn't take anymore of this, watching my mate in the hands of another, her anxiety getting the best of her while I did nothing…Maybe if I had just pulled her away when we were outside, I wouldn't be this sick.

'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree'—the Spencer family confused the hell out of me.

Elara was without morals, greedy, and dense like her parents, but Elysia was different, like she didn't belong to that family at all…she bore no resemblance to any of them. If I was told that she was adopted, I would have believed it.

My wolf wouldn't stay in place, and I didn't think I would be able to control him any longer the more I stayed in these lousy rooms filled with werewolves…I left for a secluded room, leaving Damon with Elara, who I know without a doubt would find ways to bed her.

A glass of scotch I had taken from the waiter was in my hand as I stood at the window, staring into space for what felt like hours, until the feeling of unease clawed at my heart. "Zev," my wolf, who hadn't spoken to me in a long while, growled in my head, the sound vibrating through my veins. "Mate."

"What's with her?" Had he just talked for the first time in decades just to say that? "Afraid…her…heart…calls…for…us." I felt a slight ache in my chest after Zev had called out in a stutter. "She's in safer hands than she would be in mine. Let's just stay low for now, Zev…" Heaven knows if I don't restrain myself tonight, I won't let her go; my jealousy won't let her.

My head began to ache as Zev wouldn't stop pacing around with my refusal to go find Elysia.

"Out…I…want…out." Pain shot through my bones, and I knew what was coming next if I didn't hold Zev back: the party would turn bloody. My claws were out already.

"Fine." In the next seconds, I was storming out of the room into the crowds, just to find her scent gone. She wasn't with Father. I searched in the midst of other women and her sister, but she was nowhere to be found.

"Father." The bastard was with another woman again, hands on her waist as he turned to meet my gaze, all drunk. "Son, seems you are enjoying the party."

I forced a smile even when my jaw seems like it was to snap with how its muscles twitched. "Looks like you are too, but why with another woman? I remember you bringing a lady with you…" My fist clenched tightly, trying not to utter the word 'Wife.'

"Uh…Finanz asked for a night with her, and I got myself an alliance with him…A quick exchange." I had fought everything in me not to lunge forward and catch him by the throat. I scoffed thrice, my breathing hurried.

"He…sold…our…mate." Zev growled violently. Nobody to control anyone; tonight wasn't going to end well.

"Sure, they are enjoying the time of their life now…" he laughed out loud. "You look so tense. Anything wrong?"

"Would you like to tell me where they are? I didn't get to see Alpha Finanz go. I have a little gift for him." Father would get his gift too. I was having a partial shift already, my elongated canines itching for blood.

"You should check the East Wing. He said he doesn't want disturbance, but you should be an exception." he said with pride in his eyes.

Just a few minutes, and I swore that look would change. Before another word could leave that foul mouth of his, I was gone, informing Damon as we both went in search of my mate. Zev was slipping out of control; soon I would give him the gore he craves.

Each stride to the East Wing brought her scent closer, the music from the main hall growing fainter…I just couldn't do this without a disguise. Damon and I could find another disguise plan once we were in….I pulled my jacket off, leaving it in the corridor, and just as I reached the large door at the very end, her scent grew stronger.

And I took the chance this time, letting Zev take control, my bones snapping before I hurled myself into the door as a huge wolf, the door tearing down in halves. Her scent hit me first: blood and fear, a terrible mixture for Zev to go crazy, knowing others had hurt her.

I could feel gazes on me now, but my eyes scanned the large living room just for one person, and there she was, with tears in her eyes, crouched on the floor, a shard of glass buried in her arm, her gown scratched at the edges to tatters.

"They…made…her…cry."

"This isn't somewhere you'd come to play! Who let a drunken wolf in…Get it out while I deal with the traitorous bitch!" My head snapped to Finanz, a low snarl escaping my lips.

"He…hurts…her." That was it. They knew I didn't come here to play when I threw myself forward, coming for the closest guard who couldn't live to fulfill his master's order of taking me out…my jaw closed on his throat, tearing the guts out of him. Then I went from tearing him from limbs to limbs; blood splattered on the once clean marble floor.

Gasps and a light shriek filled the air…I could hear the closing sound of the door, and I knew Damon had managed to push it back close. No one leaves here.

Seeing this wasn't a threat, bones began snapping, and the five other guards in the room began to shift. Zev would have plenty of meat tonight without getting disrupted.

Compared to how huge and fast Zev was, these poor wolves didn't stand a chance at all….I watched Finanz back to the wall; hope and fear reeked through him, but I loved the way that hope turned to shards when I took three of his guards out at once.

Two left. Zev was quick to dodge their attacks before he caught one by its hind legs as he slammed it into the wall…I paid no heed to Finanz's shaky orders as he hyped his men on, but guess what? They all met their end, and I was stalking towards Finanz who stood close to my 'Mate,' Zev had growled inwardly.

Poor thing, she thought I was coming for her as she began to move backwards. If her breath continued catching like that, she would be dead before I even get to her, but I brought my attention back towards my real prey as Zev clawed his way through Finanz's mind.

"You…dared…to…put…your…hand…on…what's…mine."

"Who are you? How did you do that?" The strong smell of urine hit my nose. Coward! Only Alphas could have a telepathic conversation with another Alpha. I am sure my eyes would have changed from golden to blood red…I don't know how this happened, the Alpha's trait, Zev's way of commanding…it was strange.

"Do you know who I am? I don't care what pack Alpha you are. I am Alpha Finanz, and the other Alphas wouldn't let you get out of here if you cause any harm to me." The more the fear, the tastier the flesh.

Then I decided to play on as I stalked closer. "Won't you shift to help yourself, Alpha Finanz?" Zev talked back in Finanz head, a smirk on my lips when it felt like he would run into the wall. "Somebody Help!"

"No one can help you, Finanz, not even the Moon Goddess. Why touch what you can't own, when you can't even fight without your men?"

"Wh…what's yours? What do you want?" I didn't give him any space into my mind; he could use that to his advantage, but look how free I was in his.

I began owning his mind without answering him. "Stop whatever you are doing this instant!" I watched him choke on his spit, his legs thrashing uncontrollably as his hand struggled to keep hold, but he couldn't help it as it was now wrapping hard against his throat.

Firefly's muffled cry couldn't stop Zev, as my wolf growled in pleasure watching blood spill from Finanz's lips. "I am giving you a peaceful death."

Now I was just an inch away from him, his eyes widened as he continued strangling himself, choking sounds escaping his lips. 'The Winzo pack can say bye to their Alpha.' I stuck my claw in his chest, clawing out his heart as Zev tore into it with his mouth, munching on his fear.

We watched Finanz collapse to the floor, and one last growl had my attention back to my mate…I almost laughed out as I watched her jokingly holding a rod. 'What does she want to do with that?'

"Back off."

Is that how you repay your savior? I didn't heed to her threat as I moved closer. Zev needed a slight pat from her for a job well done real bad.

Zev, this bastard who had suddenly become a dummy, released a purr, trying to show her we wouldn't hurt her, but the silly human wasn't in for it as she tossed the rod at us, but we dodged quickly. "Please don't hurt me," she closed her eyes tightly. 'My pretty foolish mate.'

Zev nudged her with his snout slightly getting to her, his breath calming as we marveled in her scent.

Zev's teeth caught the shard of glass in her arm, trying to be as gentle as possible as he helped pulled it out. Still, a slight hiss left her lips, and he was quick to cover the spot where blood had began to gush out from with his tongue.

Her eyes began to draw open slowly, meeting with my wolf. Even though her fear was still evident, it wasn't like before. She needed to trust us.

And tonight she would make her decision: if she wanted to stay with my father or leave with me.
