Chapter 65 - Mutual Exchange of Benefits

Wang Zhi watched the two from the side. In fact, he had already guessed the outcome: Duan Qingtian would not let those people go. Even if they were unarmed now, Duan Qingtian would kill them to avenge his fallen teammates.

After the two discussed for a while, the result Wang Zhi had anticipated did not materialize, which surprised him slightly. The two approached Wang Zhi.

"We won't kill the people. We'll leave them for you to turn in and earn some more Survival Points. The revenge is mostly settled; killing those people serves no purpose," Duan Qingtian told Wang Zhi.

Duan Qingtian's statement made Wang Zhi admire him somewhat; this magnanimity was something he couldn't emulate.

"Good! I understand."

After Wang Zhi finished speaking, he walked over to the side of the eleven people.

Bang, bang, bang! Eleven shots, none missed. While reloading, those eleven people had already fallen into a pool of blood. The remaining survivors were so terrified they crouched on the ground, not daring to make a sound, afraid they would be next.

Wang Zhi's own people were also shocked by his actions.

"Cap... Captain Wang, what are you doing?" Fatty asked, trembling slightly from the side.

"Everyone, don't panic. These eleven were people from the army before. They have now been eliminated by us; you don't need to worry about them anymore," Wang Zhi said to the crowd after putting his gun away.

Since Duan Qingtian and the others had let it go, he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands to eliminate potential future trouble. Wang Zhi hated leaving behind loose ends. He couldn't guarantee that there wasn't a suicide squad among that group; if even one suicide squad member managed to bring about Mutual Destruction within the Dawn Tower, it would be a huge loss for him.

He preferred to kill the wrong person rather than let any dangerous element go. If they were truly dragged into Mutual Destruction by those who weren't afraid of death, he would have suffered a great loss.

"Sister Ying, you all can come over now," Wang Zhi called Su Muying and the others from the woods back to the camp now that the fighting was mostly over.

As for Captain Wei's group, Wang Zhi told them to go collect some useful spoils and supplies. All supplies in the camp belonged to the Dawn Tower, and Wang Zhi had no interest in picking up gear with them; he was only concerned with looking after these hundred-plus survivors.

Because they were near the river, these people weren't particularly dirty. The majority were women; Wang Zhi knew without asking that these women had value, while the men were generally the sturdy types, useful for manual labor.

Seeing this scene, Wang Zhi sighed. There must be countless Refuge Camps like this in the World, and how many people were suffering such humiliation and hardship.

A while later, Su Muying brought Jia Liuli into the camp. Wang Zhi saw that both of them were covered in quite a bit of blood and went over to ask, "What happened?"

"What else could it be? You guys were tossing grenades and setting off explosions, attracting quite a few Zombies over. Sister Ying and I had no choice but to take care of them first,"

Su Muying kicked Wang Zhi in the rear and said irritably.

Wang Zhi could only cover his backside and scurry away, not wanting to provoke Su Muying.

Fatty, standing nearby and seeing Wang Zhi get kicked, also stepped forward, sticking his rear out, and said, "Sister Ying, I threw the grenade. Come kick me quickly."

Su Muying looked at the shameless Fatty before her, her gaze growing colder. Fatty hadn't realized something was wrong with Sister Ying, and thinking it would be like kicking Wang Zhi, Su Muying pulled out her Dagger and walked toward him.

This time, Fatty realized he had pushed things too far. He immediately turned tail and ran, but he was caught by Su Muying less than fifty meters out and kicked to the ground.

"Sister Ying, don't be like this! I was wrong! The thunder was thrown by the other side, I was just kidding, don't stab me! There's Zombie blood on the dagger, I'll get Infected!!"

Fatty wailed bitterly while pinned to the ground. Only then did Sister Ying let him go, turning to leave.

Wang Zhi looked at Fatty in the distance and gave him a thumbs-up. "I nominate you as a warrior!"

"Next, we will take you to a safe place! Don't talk on the way, and don't panic if you encounter Zombies. With us here, the Zombies won't be able to harm you," Wang Zhi said to the crowd of over a hundred people.

After a while, Captain Wei's people arrived at the camp entrance, each carrying a large box of supplies—there were firearms, ammunition, as well as food and tools.

Wang Zhi looked at the people carrying their various bags and parcels of supplies with some envy. These items, once taken to Dawn Tower, would definitely be worth more than his ten thousand-plus Survival Points.

Once everyone was gathered, Wang Zhi led the group out of the camp and set off on the journey back.

Wang Zhi glanced back at the camp. To be honest, this was a good location—good geography and secluded. It was truly a pity for such a place.

"Where did you all escape from to get into that camp?" Wang Zhi asked a woman.

"All of us escaped from the nearby town. We built the camp initially, but after that group arrived, they seized our camp and killed many of our people," the woman replied, her head bowed.

"You... won't be like that previous group, will you?"

After a moment, the woman asked worriedly again.

"We won't."

"That's wonderful, thank you so much."

After speaking, the woman deliberately loosened her collar and leaned toward Wang Zhi.

Seeing this, Wang Zhi immediately pushed the woman away. "Don't worry, we will do our best to escort you to the shelter."

Afterward, he walked quickly ahead, taking the lead of the group. He was afraid that if he stayed longer, the women would approach him one after another.

In truth, justice no longer existed in this World; there was only the exchange of interests, moving forward only for one's own benefit.

Similarly, if Dawn Tower didn't reward Wang Zhi for saving these people, he absolutely would not have saved them, nor would he have even come out. Everyone was the same; to survive, one had to make oneself valuable, to possess chips for an exchange of interests.

After walking for a while, Wang Zhi signaled for them to rest in place and replenish their food. Having gone without sleep for a day, they were beginning to feel fatigued.

Just as Wang Zhi was eating the biscuit in his hand, he suddenly felt something watching them.

Wang Zhi immediately stood up and nervously scanned his surroundings; this feeling made him very uncomfortable.

"What's wrong, Wang Zhi?" Old He asked when he saw Wang Zhi nervously looking around.

"Something's not right about this place, let's leave quickly! Hurry!"

After saying this over the radio, Wang Zhi got up and hurried them along.

Just now, Wang Zhi realized that they had encountered almost no Zombies on this entire journey; that feeling he just had meant something must be wrong somewhere.
