The cold voice sent a shiver down Shirayuki's spine. She whipped her head around and saw the pinnacle of Tracen Academy.
Not in a physical sense, but in terms of status.
The Student Council Vice President, Air Groove.
Her chic black bob cut swayed in the wind, her sharp blue-purple eyes fixed on her.
"Vice President Air Groove!? What brings you here?"
"I'm on my daily patrol. As for you, what are you doing in the flower bed?" Seeing the pile of plants Shirayuki had pulled, she questioned, "Making a mess of things?"
"I'm pulling weeds."
"Weeds? Are you on duty this week?"
"No, I suppose you could call it volunteer work."
Seeing Shirayuki's nervous expression, Air Groove's stern face gradually softened.
From the looks of it, she probably didn't know what she was doing. And volunteer work... very few students did that kind of thing anymore.
"These aren't all weeds," Air Groove said, crouching beside her and explaining the plants, her explanation much the same as Nishino Flower's.
Vice President Air Groove sure knows a lot. She truly lives up to her title of 'The Empress.'
It was said that there were two actual leaders in the student council: one was Rudolf, and the other was Air Groove. In addition to handling various affairs, she would also conduct daily patrols, helping Horse Girls solve all sorts of problems. She was highly respected among the students.
Often, when students ran into trouble, the first person they thought of was not their trainer, but Air Groove.
As long as she intervened, there was no problem that couldn't be solved.

"But that's exactly what I need!" Shirayuki exclaimed. "I want to show others a reliable side of me, to make everyone rely on me! But in the end, I'm always the one being lectured..."
"When I get too excited, I mess things up. I tell all sorts of useless lies just to save face. I'm getting further and further away from the person I want to be."
Watching her scold herself, Air Groove's eyes flickered.
"Shirayuki, I remember you just transferred to Tracen not long ago, right?"
"Yes."
"To think that you're already considering these things."
"Because I transferred to this school with a clear purpose."
Hearing this, Air Groove raised her elegant eyebrows.
"The purpose you're talking about... don't tell me it's to teach others, establish a reputation, and serve the Horse Girls."
"That's right."
"And the reason?"
"There is no reason. It's just what I want to do."
Her pure, flawless azure eyes reflected Air Groove's face. Looking at the white-haired girl who was seeking an answer from her, Air Groove's expression shifted.
To devote oneself to others... she had rarely seen a student with such thoughts.
She was the Empress, the Horse Girl who nurtured and guided the masses. So she understood Shirayuki's feelings. Guiding a lost soul onto the right path brought a joy no less than winning a race.
"I can give you a way to become a respected existence, what you call a 'capable Horse Girl.'"
"What?"
Air Groove took a form out of her pocket and handed it to her.
"This is a recruitment form for the student council. We're not short-staffed this year, so we haven't been giving these out to applicants. If you can help twenty classmates within two months, have them sign their names here, and write a reason for their recommendation, I can make an exception and let you join."
"The student council..."
"That's right. There, you can learn what you want to learn. Whether it's how to teach students, how to interact with them, or the troubles they face every day—everything about Horse Girls, you can find in the student council."
Looking at the twenty empty slots for names and recommendations, Shirayuki hesitated.
"So, what do you think? Can you accept?"

Shirayuki watched Air Groove leave.
The weeding continued until after dinner. A panting Chiya collapsed onto the ground.
"My back..."
Compared to the Horse Girls, his physique was somewhat pathetic. Nishino Flower beside him hadn't broken a sweat, and Shirayuki was also full of energy. Only he was gasping for air like an old bull.
Once again, he lamented the gap between humans and Horse Girls.
"I can't go on. I need a break."
He lay down on the grass in the middle of the flower bed.
"Are you tired already, Trainer Chiya?"
"That's right. Humans are such frail creatures. A little exercise and our backs ache."
"I think you should exercise more."

Chiya's eyes lit up instantly.

"My, my, a nice pillow over here."
A leisurely voice floated by. A green figure lay down on Nishino Flower's lap. Seeing who it was, Chiya's eyes widened.
"Seiun Sky."
"Hmm...? Isn't that Trainer Chiya? What are you doing here?" she said, lazily opening one eye.
"That's what I want to ask you! When did you get here and steal my spot?!"
"I just came out for a walk after eating."
Seiun Sky yawned.
"As for the spot, are you saying you wanted to lie on someone's lap, Trainer? How about here then? Sky-chan's soft and tender thighs, fresh from training. It's a buy-one-get-one-free offer right now."
"Do you think I'm the kind of person who would lie on any lap available?"
"I think so."
"You're right."
Chiya rolled over and lay his head on Seiun Sky's lap.
