Fujiwara Chiya lay on his back on the ground.
Beneath him, Nase Fumino was panting heavily.
As a trainer, and a female one at that, her strength was much less than others. But even so, she had used all her might to pull him back.
From the start of the race, she had noticed something was off with him. The amount he was sweating was clearly beyond the scope of mere nervousness. It was no exaggeration to say that even a Horse Girl who had just finished training wouldn't sweat that much.
As she was watching the track and observing him, she found that just before Shirayuki crossed the finish line, Chiya had suddenly made an unbelievable move.
He had lowered his body, his feet planted firmly on the ground.
A bad feeling surfaced in her mind.
Without a second thought, she ran over and grabbed his shoulder. At that exact moment, he lifted his foot.
Using all her strength, she forcibly pulled him back as he was halfway over the railing.
The two of them fell heavily to the ground.
Looking at the still-shocked Chiya on top of her, Nase Fumino instinctively tried to prop herself up, but she found that she couldn't lift her arms.
Forcibly pulling back a fully-grown man who was in the middle of a powerful leap had put a considerable strain on her. Her arms were strained to varying degrees and couldn't move properly now.
"Trainer Nase!?"
Hearing the panting behind him, Chiya rolled off and stood up. Nase Fumino was lying beneath him.
"I'm sorry, I was just..."
Chiya knocked his head.
Due to the intense mental strain, his consciousness had once again uncontrollably synchronized with Shirayuki's. It was this mistake that had almost caused him to fall from the three-meter-high spectator stand.
"Let me help you up."
Seeing her try to prop herself up but fail twice in a row, he finally understood that her arms had been injured while trying to stop him.
I'm such an idiot!
Cursing himself inwardly, he carefully helped her up.
So light...
Even for a woman, Nase Fumino was incredibly light.
"Is the injury to your arms serious?"
"It's probably a strain."
"I'll take you to the infirmary."
"No need," she shook her head, her eyes as calm as ever. "I can go by myself."
"This is all my fault. I just... I saw Shirayuki fall, and in my panic... anyway, let's go. You can't apply medicine to yourself in this state."
Chiya led her away from the track. Meanwhile, the race results were out.
"First place, Tokai Teio. Second place, Special Week. Third place, Fujiwara Shirayuki. Fourth, Seiun Sky..."
Hishi Amazon announced the rankings. Shirayuki, who was still on the ground, was helped up by Special Week.
"Shirayuki-san, are you okay?!" Special Week's face was full of worry.
"I'm fine..."
When Chiya had lost his balance, the feeling of weightlessness had affected her too. She had kicked empty air on her last step and ended up falling.
If her balance had been better, this wouldn't have happened.
No, it wasn't just balance.
Shirayuki knocked her head.
There was also the problem of body synchronization. If she could completely separate who was who and not interfere with each other, this situation wouldn't have occurred.
Shirayuki reflected on her mistakes.
"That was so dangerous, Shirayuki-san! You slid a full seven meters!"
The judges and Tokai Teio were all stunned. They had just seen a white object zip past their feet, so scared that Teio, who had just crossed the finish line and hadn't even had time to celebrate, had jumped in the air.
"Is that so? I can really slide, huh," Shirayuki remarked.
Her chest was now burning with pain. She must have scraped the skin.
I'll put some medicine on it when I get back.
Fortunately, the Tracen training uniforms were custom-made and exceptionally durable. Otherwise, that slide would have been enough to grind her B-cup down to an A-cup.
Wiping the grass stains off her face, Shirayuki looked at Teio walking towards her.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
A small scrape was nothing to a Horse Girl.
Hearing this, Teio relaxed and then began to speak smugly:
"Hmph, Fujiwara Shirayuki-san, it seems I was slightly better in this race."
She issued a victor's declaration.
"But you don't have to be disheartened. After all, it's only natural to lose to the great Tokai Teio! Hahaha!"
She put her hands on her hips and laughed loudly.
Although Shirayuki liked Horse Girls, seeing her opponent mock her after a victory still ignited a fire of anger in her heart.
This little brat needs to be taught a lesson!
After she had her fill of laughing, Teio's expression turned serious. "Fujiwara Shirayuki, although you lost to me, I acknowledge that you have some skill. If you're not satisfied, then challenge me again!"
She puffed out her already A-cup chest and pointed at her. "I, Tokai Teio, have already recognized you as my rival!"
After declaring their rivalry, she ran off excitedly.
"Eh? I came in second... why did she ignore me?" Special Week pointed to herself, completely confused.
In the spectator stands, Tazuna and Rudolf had complicated expressions.
"The ending was a bit unexpected..."
"Indeed."
The moment Shirayuki had bent down to lift her foot, Rudolf had predicted that Teio was going to lose. Who would have thought that just as she was about to accelerate, she would suddenly slip and turn into a ground-hugging fairy zipping past.
If she had managed to get that kick off, the winner of this race might not have been Teio.
After all, by hand, Shirayuki had crossed the finish line first when she slid past.
It just showed how powerful her acceleration was.
Rudolf thought she had already evaluated her highly enough, but in the end, she had still underestimated her.
Her gaze shifted from Shirayuki to the little girl in the crowd constantly shouting 'President.' Rudolf said with a sigh, "In any case, Teio won this race. Luck is also a part of a Horse Girl's strength. She will be given the praise she deserves."
"You're quite fond of Teio, aren't you, Rudolf?"
"Being fair with rewards and punishments is the way of a good leader. I'm just fulfilling my duties as the Student Council President."
"If you say so," Tazuna smiled. "Then I should go comfort the child who lost."
"Shirayuki?"
"Yes."
"You seem to be quite concerned about her."
"Of course. After all, the person she admires is Harvest Time. I hope that child can achieve her dream."
"She admires Harvest Time... ah." Rudolf gave Tazuna a meaningful look. "It seems she's been following Horse Girls for a long time."
"What do you mean, Rudolf? Why is it a long time just because she follows Harvest Time? Is she that old? It's only been ten years, she's only in her twenties."
Ten years. How many generations of Horse Girls had passed? Four new Triple Crown winners, one Filly Triple Crown. How many people still remembered Harvest Time?
Seeing Tazuna's dangerous smile, Rudolf coughed a few times.
"You're right. That era wasn't that long ago. I still remember it vividly."
"See?"
After getting the answer she wanted, Tazuna left the stands.
Rudolf finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Even though she was the unprecedented Undefeated Triple Crown winner, she couldn't help but be intimidated by Tazuna's presence.
Horse Girls, besides using their real names to race, could also use pseudonyms—names used in the news, newspapers, and by the public.
So far in history, there have been two Horse Girls who ran under pseudonyms.
One of them was the powerhouse who had transcended her era.
Pseudonym: Harvest Time.
Real name: Hayakawa Tazuna.
