Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Shadow of Potential

It was a calm July morning in 2018. The summer breeze rolled through the wide glass windows of Kurotsuki Tenkai's home, where he sat lazily on the couch, sipping his iced coffee while Aion displayed world statistics on a floating holographic screen.

"Everything's too quiet these days…" Tenkai muttered.

"Statistically," Aion replied, "this level of peace has a 98% chance of ending with chaos in the next 24 hours."

Tenkai smirked. "You're learning."

Before he could take another sip—

BOOM!

A massive spatial ripple cracked open in front of his living room.

Gojo Satoru stepped out casually, sunglasses gleaming, grinning from ear to ear. Beside him stood a black-haired teenager with sharp eyes, hands in pockets, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else.

"Yo, Tenkai!" Gojo waved, dragging the boy forward. "I brought you a gift!"

"Last time you said that, you teleported a cursed mummy into my kitchen," Tenkai said flatly.

Gojo ignored him, patting the boy's shoulder. "This one's not cursed—well, not yet. Meet Megumi Fushiguro, my adorable, brooding adopted son."

Megumi blinked. "I'm not adorable."

Gojo winked. "He's got insane potential. He's got that Ten Shadows Technique, you know? I could train him myself, but I figured why not give him the 'Kurotsuki Experience'. You're the only guy who could make a frog do a somersault midair."

Tenkai sighed. "You dumped your student on me, didn't you?"

Gojo spread his arms dramatically. "It's called delegation! Besides, you're better at polishing rough diamonds. I just make them blind."

"Accurate," Tenkai muttered.

Gojo clapped Megumi's back. "Kid, trust him. He might look lazy, but he's one of the strongest sorcerers alive. Oh—and don't die."

"Wait—" Megumi began, but Gojo was already gone, vanishing in a burst of spatial distortion.

Silence.

Tenkai and Megumi just stared at each other awkwardly for ten seconds.

"…He does that often?" Megumi asked.

"Too often," Tenkai sighed. "Alright, kid. Let's spar. I want to see what you've got."

They stood in the backyard, the training field already glowing with faint barrier lines.

"Come at me with everything," Tenkai said calmly.

Megumi didn't hesitate. "Divine Dogs!"

Two black-and-white wolves materialized and lunged toward Tenkai, their speed blurring. Megumi used the chaos to summon Rabbit Escape, filling the air with dozens of white rabbits hopping around, scattering cursed dust.

Tenkai smiled slightly, scanning. He's using misdirection. Clever.

Then lightning cracked above—Nue, the electric bird Shikigami, dove from the sky.

Tenkai barely tilted his head as the bolt struck the ground beside him.

"Impressive coordination," he said casually from behind Megumi, hand already resting on the boy's shoulder.

Megumi froze. "Wha—"

"You lose."

The Divine Dogs faded into smoke.

Tenkai smiled faintly. "You've got good instincts. But you rely too much on your technique. In a real fight, if you can't move your body faster than your opponent, you're dead before your shikigami can even blink."

Megumi looked down. "So what should I do?"

"So here's what we'll do," Tenkai continued. "Physical training, martial arts, cursed energy refinement, barrier defense, and mental combat simulations. Also, I'm putting you on a nutritional plan. You're fifteen. You need to grow."

Megumi groaned. "That sounds like hell."

"Good," Tenkai smirked. "Welcome to my classroom."

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. The quiet boy became a storm in motion.

Every dawn began with high-intensity combat drills, cursed energy manipulation exercises, and tactical sparring simulations using Aion's AI-generated opponents.

"Maintain flow, Megumi!" Tenkai barked as Megumi channeled energy through his legs. "Your cursed energy ratio is slipping by 0.8%! Again!"

"Again?!" Megumi gasped, panting, but obeyed.

By the end of four months, his physique had transformed — leaner, faster, more defined. His cursed energy efficiency climbed to 85%, surpassing even elite-level sorcerers.

He had now subdued six more shikigami: Toad, Great Serpent, Max Elephant, Piercing Ox, Round Deer, and Tiger of Funeral Flame. Only Mahoraga, the final shikigami, remained unconquered.

Tenkai watched one evening as Megumi's shikigami fought perfectly in sync. "Not bad, kid," he murmured. "You're starting to look like someone who'll shake the world."

Megumi wiped sweat from his brow. "Still not good enough. Not yet."

Tenkai grinned. "Spoken like a real sorcerer."

December 22, 2018 — Megumi's Birthday.

Gojo rented out an entire private yacht, anchored off the coast of Okinawa. The evening sky blazed orange as laughter echoed across the deck.

"Happy birthday, brat!" Gojo shouted, wearing a captain's hat and aviators. "You survived my best friend's hell camp — that deserves cake!"

Megumi blinked. "You… bought a yacht?"

Gojo grinned. "Technically, yes. I get millions in royalties from selling cursed tools designed by your mentor here."

Tenkai facepalmed. "You mean my company makes them. You just cash the checks."

"Semantics."

Around them, familiar faces laughed: Alice Nakiri, Erina Nakiri, Nanami, Shoko Ieiri, Maki, Inumaki, and Panda.

Alice clinked glasses with Erina. "You've been dodging the question, Erina — when's your wedding?"

Erina flushed. "Wha–?! That's not fair! You and Tenkai aren't married either!"

Gojo leaned in like a gossiping auntie. "Wait, wait, Erina likes someone, doesn't she?"

"Fine!" Erina shouted. "It's Soma Yukihira from Tōtsuki Culinary Academy, alright?! Happy?!"

The entire deck went silent — then erupted in laughter.

Panda rolled on the floor. "So it's Chef Crush! Classic!"

Alice smirked. "Oh, we are never letting you live this down."

Tenkai raised his glass. "To young love… and culinary rivalries."

Gojo winked. "Don't worry, I'll officiate your wedding. For a fee."

"GOJO!"

The laughter echoed across the sea.

Even Megumi cracked a small smile.

Gojo stood beside him, grinning. "Get used to this, kid. You're joining Jujutsu High soon — under NCD's jurisdiction. The real chaos starts there."

Megumi nodded quietly, determination burning in his eyes. "I'll be ready."

That night, the celebration ended, and as the city lights shimmered in the distance, the world outside began to change.

Breaking News.

"An unprecedented rise in Special Grade curses has been recorded globally," the anchor announced. "In a shocking development, a CCTV camera in London has captured two Special Grade Curses standing opposite each other — apparently communicating."

The screen displayed grainy footage: a ruined restaurant, corpses scattered everywhere. Two humanoid curses faced each other in eerie calm, their movements disturbingly human.

"No sound was captured, but this is the first recorded instance of curses talking instead of fighting."

Gasps filled newsrooms worldwide.

Online, chaos exploded instantly:

"TWO curses TALKING?? Nah bro this is the endgame."

"London just unlocked cursed co-op mode 😭💀."

"Someone call Gojo and Tenkai — the DLC bosses are teaming up."

"If those curses start a podcast, humanity's done."

"Lmao imagine a curse TED talk: 'How to kill humans efficiently.'"

"Bro they're forming a society 💀💀💀"

"This is how it starts. Cursed Spirit Civil Rights Movement incoming."

"Meanwhile Japan: 'We'll handle it.'"

"London's got two chatting curses, and I can't even talk to my crush 😭"

Twitter, Reddit, and every global platform melted down. Memes, fear, and prayers mixed into a storm of emotion.

On live TV, a U.S. reporter shouted, "These aren't mindless creatures anymore — this could mean intelligence, organization, even leadership among curses!"

Russia issued a statement urging unity.

China began lockdowns in its western provinces.

India declared a supernatural emergency response act.

England went silent for a day.

But across every country, one sentiment echoed through the digital void—

"Only Kurotsuki Tenkai and Gojo Satoru can save us."

The hashtag #PrayForLondon trended worldwide. Fan edits of Gojo and Tenkai fighting curses under moonlight racked up millions of views.

Meanwhile, in Japan—

Gojo scrolled through the memes on his phone, laughing uncontrollably. "Tenkai, look at this one — 'London: Now featuring Cursed Spirit Diplomacy!'"

Tenkai facepalmed. "We're witnessing global calamity, and you're laughing at memes."

Gojo grinned. "Humor is my coping mechanism."

Alice joined in, scrolling through Twitter. "Look, someone made a meme of you two as Avengers — 'The Strongest Duo: Gojo & Tenkai — The Final Defense of Humanity!'"

Tenkai sighed but couldn't help smirking. "Well… they're not wrong."

Outside, the night sky shimmered with distant lightning — as if the world itself was trembling in anticipation.

The laughter faded. The tension deepened.

Tenkai stood at the balcony, watching the horizon.

"Two curses, communicating," he murmured. "That's new. Something's changing."

Gojo stood beside him, eyes serious for once. "You feel it too, don't you?"

Tenkai nodded. "Yeah. The world's shifting again."

The screen cut to a global map — red dots spreading across continents, marking special-grade sightings.

The anchor's voice echoed faintly through the static:

"Experts warn that the rise in special grades may signal the dawn of a new era — one humanity may not survive without its strongest."

The world looked once again toward Japan.Toward two names that echoed across every screen, every headline, every whispered hope:

Kurotsuki Tenkai. Gojo Satoru.
