Chapter 85 - Chapter 85 — Later That Day

The afternoon sun bathed Maple Hollow in warm, golden light. Leaves rustled underfoot as Hannah and Emma wandered the familiar streets, fingers brushing until they naturally intertwined. The town felt quiet, peaceful, and perfectly theirs.

"Look at that sky," Emma said, tilting her head back to watch sunlight filter through amber and crimson leaves. "It feels like it was made for days like this."

Hannah smiled, squeezing her hand. "Perfect for exploring, laughing at little things… even if it's just our streets."

They chuckled at small moments — a dog chasing a leaf, a child squealing after a balloon — and in each shared glance, the ordinary felt extraordinary. Emma paused at the fountain in the little park, watching the water ripple in sunlight.

"You notice all the little things, don't you?" Hannah said softly, brushing a strand of hair from Emma's face.

Emma grinned. "Only because you make me. You make everything feel alive."

They strolled further, stopping at the corner bakery for a pastry, waving to familiar neighbors, sharing quiet jokes that only they understood. Every laugh, glance, and brush of fingers reinforced the steady, effortless bond that had grown between them over weeks of mornings, afternoons, and evenings together.

By the time they returned to Hannah's apartment, the sky had softened into lavender and gold. On the porch, hands still intertwined, they shared a quiet smile.

Hannah murmured, "Days like this… I never want them to end."

Emma pressed her hand to Hannah's. "Neither do I. Not ever."

Inside, the apartment welcomed them with warmth, carrying the calm, joy, and intimacy of the day into the comfort of the evening.
