Chapter 79 - Chapter 79 — Later That Day

Maple Hollow's streets glowed in the soft afternoon light, the crisp air carrying the earthy scent of fallen leaves. Hannah and Emma wandered side by side, their fingers brushing until they naturally intertwined. The town felt quiet, peaceful, and perfectly theirs in this moment.

"Look at that sky," Emma said, tilting her head back. The sunlight filtered through amber leaves, casting warm shadows across the cobblestone streets. "It feels like it was made for days like this."

Hannah squeezed her hand lightly. "Perfect for a little adventure — even if it's just exploring the familiar streets we walk every day."

They laughed at small moments — a dog chasing a falling leaf, a child racing after a balloon — and found joy in the simplicity of it all. Every glance, every shared smile, made the day feel lighter, full of warmth and quiet magic.

At the little park near the edge of town, Emma paused to watch the water ripple in the fountain. "You notice all the little things, don't you?" Hannah asked softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

Emma grinned. "Only because you make me. You make everything feel… alive."

They wandered further, greeting neighbors, stopping at the corner bakery for a quick pastry, and laughing over small, shared jokes. Each moment reinforced the steady, effortless bond that had grown between them over weeks of mornings, afternoons, and evenings spent together.

By the time they returned to Hannah's apartment, the sky had softened into lavender and gold. They paused on the porch, hands still intertwined, smiling at each other in quiet contentment.

Hannah whispered, "Days like this… I never want them to end."

Emma pressed her hand to Hannah's. "Neither do I. Not ever."

Inside, the warmth of the apartment welcomed them, carrying the calm and joy of the day into the comfort of the evening.
