Chapter 16 - Practical lesson

Practical lesson

Practical lesson

In the morning Blackell Magic Academy

Inside the star class

Hey, today's lesson is a practical of mana foundations. The professor provided the full explanation, and the copies of that sheet are really helpful; it clears all of the doubt related to mana foundations. But I am a little worried that something will go wrong during the practical. The students are looking nervous and talking about today's practical lesson.

Eliana 'To be honest, the sheet provided by the professor is really helpful,' Alina said to Eliana. 'Didn't you think?' 'Yeah, helpful, but not as much as when the door of the star class opened and Stefan Wellmate arrived.'

Today's lesson is the practical lesson, as Stefan continues, he said in a cold voice, so let's begin. The big classroom's restraint energy hums as a precaution only a star-level instructor can create transparent barriers that shimmer along the walls.

Star class students stand before their desks, students' eyes filled with excitement and arrogance alike, performing the first principal of mana foundations: extraction, circulation, and compression. Stefan stands in front of the students and says in a different aura, 'Show me not your power but your control.' A glowing circle appears beneath every student's feet as Stefan waves his hand.

With mana the air thickens as each student begins the practical. Some bright runes light up; other unstable students perform the practical.

Some manage to stabilise their aura. The room fills with a hum of raw energy while others struggle like unstable flames, their mana flickering, desks shake, and sparks dance. Stefan watches silently, analysing every move, hands behind his back.

Stefan quietly said it is about obedience; make mana listen to you. Mana control is not about strength. After listening to Stefan, few students manage to succeed, glow steadily and perfect their mana spirals.

Eliana Falric, the smirking professor, said, 'How is that something so basic called a foundation? This is like child's play.' Stefan, without looking up, said, 'Tell me, can you build a castle on air? And the tower collapses if the foundation is weak.'

Eliana Falric: Mocking, isn't it inefficient to force one method on all? Mana doesn't behave the same for everyone. Stefan turns to her faint smile and says, "Mana is alive, correct, but why does it disobey? Rules exist to teach you obedience; once you master it, rebellion is the only thing left. Only then may you teach it."

Ceriyan Strowale The genius magician annoyedly said we already know how to gather mana. 'What's the point of this?' Then Stefan raises an eyebrow and says, without distortion, 'Compress it.' Then do you, as Ceriyan Strowale tries to wobble mana like glass bursts? Gasps echo, throwing him backward.

Stefan said coldly, The difference separated a student from a mage and a mage from a star instructor. You only gathered mana; you didn't own it. Alina Rosvel also succeeded in doing it. Stefan saw Alina and said, 'Praising this is the definition of hard work. I am watching you all the time. You failed many times, but you did not give up and succeeded.'

Thank you, professor, for your kind words. Alina Rosvel said politely, 'Star class fills with silence as Stefan walks between them. As Stefan said, remember this well: this is only the first principle. You are not worthy to command it until you are able to completely control mana.'

The star class glows faintly as leftover mana haze from the first lesson coats swaying slightly. Stefan stands before them, taking the chalk. Now then, you have learnt about extraction, circulation, and compression. We move to the second principle of mana. Foundations resonance and stabilisation You will make your body's rhythm with your mana heartbeat, and your mana will scatter in a storm like sand if you fail to synchronise it.

Students start doing practical A quiet student closes his eyes in harmony with the air; his mana hums slightly, and the room brightens. Stefan looked at the quiet student and said, 'You are doing great.' 'My sincere thanks,' said the quiet student, Ceriyan. Strowale questioned, saying, 'Why not just overpower it if resonance is about harmony?' Stefan said coldly, 'Because resonance is music, and brute force is noise; only fools mistake noise for power.'

Several students succeed, and several attempt, but their mana has wavered violently from backlash; a few collapsed as Stefan said, 'Ok, now we move to third Mana.' Flow control where you wish, not where it pleases. Now control makes mana. Flow circle: each student body streams, breaking apart; most lose focus as mana streams.

The genius magician, Ceriyan Strowale, through his limbs, guides it calmly; he successfully forces it, but beads of sweat form as several students succeed and only a few do not. A student questions, 'When mana can find its own route, why restrict its path?' Stefan said it floods cities if a stream chooses its own course, but a guided stream builds empires.

Stefan said, 'Well, you know how to stabilise it now. Let's move to the last foundation, Mana purification. Remove impurities until only you remain.' Students try colours flickering between red, blue and black; the room fills with chaos. Mana turns unstable. ceriyan Strowale succeeds but trembles, nearly losing consciousness. Ceriyan Strowale manages it gracefully; his mana turns crystal clear.

Students painting professor: why does it hurt? Stefan softly because you are doing purification that demands truth and burns those who lie to themselves. After a few hours, the students manage to do all five foundations of mana. Stefan said calmly, 'You have touched the five foundations, but remember they are roots, not steps. Grow them deeply. Now that's the end of today's practical lesson.'

As Stefan was walking into the lobby, Professor Amie came to him and said, 'The headmaster calls for you.'

Inside the headmaster's office

Stefan said, 'Tell me, Headmaster, why you called me here out of the blue.' Professor Stefan Wellmate I call you here because in a few hours the imperial mage corps commander is coming to negotiate with you regarding the rebel incident.
