Finally, Yu Xi stepped back, chest heaving. The baton powered down with a dying whine. Lord Leung slumped forward, limp, his head lolling to the side. For a moment, it looked like he was dead.
But the health monitor embedded in the chair blinked green. He was very much alive and kicking.
Jian Rui, still wiping blood from his knuckles, looked over at Stannis. Stannis, who had been quietly checking his own hands for injury, met his gaze.
"Let's go," Jian Rui said, voice low. "You can help me treat my wounds."
Stannis nodded. "Okay."
Jian Rui stood, rolling his shoulders. "Let me know if he says anything new."
"Sure," Jian Wei and Yu Xi said in unison.
As the two left, Jian Wei leaned against the table, watching them disappear down the hall. He glanced at Yu Xi and said, "I wonder how Rui-ge gets along with Stannis. Their personalities are polar opposites."
