Chapter 69 - The Plea

Ronan's footsteps faded. The den door slammed. And I stood in the clearing with Jasper gasping at my feet and my pack watching in silence.

Waiting. For judgment. For decision. For me to choose between mercy and love.

"Araya." Jasper's voice. Broken. Desperate. "Please. Don't let me die like this. Don't—" He coughed. Blood flecked his lips. "Don't let me die knowing I destroyed everything. That I never—" He couldn't finish.

My wolf stirred. Responding to his Alpha voice even weakened. Even dying. The instinct was there—to help, to heal, to answer when an Alpha called.

But my heart—

My heart was steady. Clear. Unmoved by his pleas. Because whatever instinct my wolf had, my heart knew the truth.

I didn't love him. Not anymore. Not the way that mattered.

"Get up," I commanded.

He struggled. Failed. Tried again. Managed to get to his knees. Barely. Swaying. Looking like a strong wind would knock him over.
