Chapter 17 - Troubles

  late at night.

When Hongdou arrived at the hospital, she found everyone there.

Kurenai Yuhi, Yugao Uzuki, Asuma, Kai, and Ebisu stood in different parts of the ward, making the already small room feel somewhat crowded.

Lying on the four snow-white hospital beds were Genma Shiranui, Raido Namiya, Aoba Yamashiro, and Hayate Gekko.

Seeing that all four of them had regained consciousness, Hongdou asked, "How are you? Are you alright?"

"It's just some aftereffects of the illusion technique. The doctor said it will be fine after some rest," Kai said from the side.

Genma glanced at Anko who had entered, then calmly looked out the window.

"This is really embarrassing," Yamashiro Aoba sighed and said with a wry smile.

Both Raito and Gekko Hayate lay there silently.

"It's my fault, I didn't tell you about their strength," Ebisu said somewhat awkwardly.

"It's good that you're alright," Hongdou said, letting out a sigh of relief.

"I'm sorry," she said again, earnestly.

Namishita Raido silently turned his head away, Gekko Hayate remained silent, and Genma's gaze was still fixed on the window.

"It's even more embarrassing now," Yamashiro Aoba said self-deprecatingly.

"In any case, let's leave it at that," Hongdou added. "This matter was originally mine, and I shouldn't have let you step in for me rashly."

"It's none of your business, we insisted on doing it this way," Genma Shiranui finally said.

"Don't try to be a hero at a time like this," Hongdou said helplessly. Xi Ri Hong glared at her from the side, and Hongdou immediately shut up, realizing she had spoken out of turn.

"I heard that the garrison was alerted?" she asked in turn.

Kurenai sighed helplessly, "It's more than that. When the security team arrived, they saw that all four of them were under a genjutsu and thought that an enemy had infiltrated. In the end, they alerted the Hokage. You didn't see the police force and ANBU flying around on the roof."

Hongdou was somewhat surprised. "Huh?! So what did the police force and the Hokage say in the end?"

"I said I was experimenting with illusion magic and didn't control the intensity well." Yamashiro Aoba pushed up his sunglasses helplessly. Among the people present, he was the only one who was somewhat proficient in illusion magic.

Without revealing the truth, everyone understood each other perfectly.

"Bonded Illusion Technique and Shiranui are both genjutsu of relatively low level," Kurenai Yuhi added, her gaze sweeping over the four people. She knew that these people were no ordinary individuals; they were elites among the Chunin.

But that guy took care of it just like that...

  "His mastery of illusion magic..."

Kurenai suddenly remembered the words Mizuki Oboro had used to mock her that night, calling her a "master of illusion," and lowered her head, her gaze turning cold.

"Looks like you've really messed with a formidable opponent," Asuma said, oblivious to the change in Red beside him.

"After all, he was once on par with Shisui of the Body Flicker," Ebisu said.

They all had a deep understanding of geniuses, because one of their classmates was Kakashi Hatake, who was already a Jonin at the age of 12 and had reached a level that they had not yet achieved seven or eight years ago.

"Come to think of it, I'd love to have a go at him." Might Guy's cheerful voice broke the suddenly tense atmosphere as he waved his fist.

"He's a genjutsu-type ninja, and he's so powerful. Guy, you'd probably be taken down in a single move," Asuma chuckled.

"That Oboro Mizuki claims he's better at physical combat," Ebisu added at this point.

  "..."

"And his water-style techniques were quite strong during our previous mission together," Ebisu added.

  "..."

"Oh! It seems I must have the chance to learn from you sometime." Kai was even more eager to try after hearing this.

"What do you want to learn?" An untimely voice suddenly rang out at the door of the ward. Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and found that it was the Third Hokage standing there at some point.

"Lord Hokage!" Everyone was startled, and everyone except the four people on the sickbed and Asuma stood up straight.

"What brings you here?" Hongdou asked.

"Let's see who's behind tonight's events," the Third Hokage said slowly.

Upon hearing this, Yamashiro Aoba felt a pang of anxiety, but given the current situation, he was the only one who could take the blame.

"Lord Hokage, I'm so sorry to have disturbed you so late." Yamashiro Aoba bowed his head in apology. "It's all my fault for disturbing everyone."

"Yes, if it gets any worse, we'll have to arrange for the villagers to take refuge." The Third Hokage spoke calmly, but the consequences he implied were extremely serious.

"Lord Hokage, this isn't just Aoba's problem; we all share responsibility," Genma Shiranui said, and Raido Namiashi and Hayate Gekko nodded in agreement.

Red Bean wanted to speak up, but after learning about Aoba's lie, she knew she had no reason to say anything more, and felt quite uncomfortable.

The Third Hokage let out a heavy sigh. "You all have the guts to take responsibility, do you know the consequences of this?"

"We are willing to accept the punishment," Genma Shiranui hurriedly said.

The Third Hokage's gaze swept over the four of them. Yugao and Anko's faces were full of worry, while Guy and Kurenai didn't dare to say anything more at the moment.

"How is your health?" the Third Hokage suddenly asked.

Everyone was taken aback. Yamashiro Aoba quickly replied, "It's nothing, just a side effect of being under a spell."

The Third Hokage's face darkened: "Is this what you call nothing wrong? How dare you use your comrades to experiment with genjutsu!"

  "..."

"Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened this time. But if any irreversible damage had occurred, could you bear the responsibility?"

Yamashiro Aoba lowered his head and listened attentively to the Hokage's reprimand, but in his heart he was deeply moved that the Hokage only pursued the matter of him experimenting with genjutsu on his comrades.

The Third Hokage berated the four of them, his words harsh and stern. The group listened silently, not daring to utter a single word.

"Lord Hokage, I am willing to accept any punishment," said Yamashiro Aoba.

"Take good care of yourself. You will certainly be punished," the Third Hokage said calmly.

  "yes."

  "Have a good day, Hokage."

After the Third Hokage left, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Fortunately, the Hokage is quite lenient," Kai chuckled.

"Yes, otherwise, he would have been imprisoned for a while for causing such consequences," Ebisu said.

"Alright, let's call it a day. We have nothing else to do, so we can all go back now," Genma Shiranui said.

Kurenai shrugged and turned to leave the ward first.

"We're off then, we'll come see you again tomorrow," Kai said with a smile.

Hongdou hesitated, feeling guilty and wondering whether she should stay and take care of him.

"We're not paralyzed, cough cough, it's alright, cough cough," Gekko Hayate said to Uzuki Yugao, who also didn't want to leave.

Asuma and Ebisu each said something about taking care of themselves before leaving the ward.

"I'll come again tomorrow," Hongdou finally said.

At the hospital entrance, people waved goodbye to each other.

Asuma looked at Kurenai Yuhi, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.

"Is something the matter?" Kurenai Yuhi didn't leave immediately, but asked Asuma instead.

"Um...would you like to take a walk together?" Asuma was pondering how to bring it up when he heard this, and immediately perked up.

"Now?" Kurenai didn't look at him, her gaze fixed on the distant night sky.

It was late at night, and the village was completely silent, except for the hospital, where the lights were still on.

  Is this appropriate?

Kurenai turned to look at him, her red eyes filled with calm.

Asuma's face stiffened, and he gave an awkward smile.

"After something like this happened to your friend, how can you think about anything else?"

After saying this in a low voice, Kurenai turned and left.

Asuma stood there watching Kurenai's departing figure, opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a sound.

He didn't know what he had done to upset the other person.

As Kurenai walked around the corner of Hospital Road, she found a figure waiting for her.

  It's red bean.

"Didn't Asuma say anything to you?" Red Bean asked.

"She said she wanted to take a walk with me." Kurenai paused briefly in silence before continuing to walk.

Hongdou walked beside her, side by side, the two of them alone on the deserted street.

"Why did you refuse?" Hongdou asked.

"It's late, I want to go back to sleep," Kurenai Yuhi said.

  Hongdou chuckled softly.

"From childhood to adulthood, from when we were just beginning to understand love to now, we've taken countless walks together," Yuhi Hong continued.

"I know his thoughts all too well, and actually I wasn't that resistant at first..."

"Maybe we've been apart for too long, and I need some time to adjust."

Kurenai sighed as she spoke, finding an excuse for herself.

Hongdou glanced at Xi Ri Kurenai's complicated expression and suddenly sighed.

Kurenai gave her a strange look. "Why are you sighing?"

"Asuma, how pitiful," Red Bean said slowly.

"What are you saying?" Kurenai Yuhi rolled her eyes.

"There's nothing I can do. No matter what decision you make or what you do, I have to stand by your side, don't I?" Hongdou said to Xi Ri Kurenai with a helpless smile.

"So, I can only pity Asuma."

"What nonsense!" Kurenai Yuhi said irritably.

"Yeah, it's a mess." Hongdou shrugged, looking ahead without saying anything more.

Kurenai gave her a strange look, then reached up and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "What are you going to do about this?"

"This matter..." Hongdou murmured, her eyes darting around.

"Let's leave it at that. Although we ended up losing out, it seems we were in the wrong first."

"But I feel really sorry for Genma and the others."

Kurenai Yuhi then added, "It's good that you think that way, but Mizuki Oboro might not think that way."

"What else does he want? He's already hit someone, and he hasn't been implicated in the whole thing," Hongdou said, pouting.

"If you were suddenly targeted by a group of people, would you let it go so easily?" Kurenai Yuhi retorted.

"He... doesn't seem like the kind of person who gets hung up on things, does he?" Hongdou hesitated.

"What? You think he's still a good person?" Kurenai Yuhi sneered.

Hongdou was a little annoyed. "What should we do? We can't beat them in a fight, and we can't report it to the village. If he reveals Xuanjian and the others' affairs, it will be even more troublesome."

Kurenai Yuhi shrugged: "That's why I asked you what you're planning to do."

"Ugh, this is so annoying!" Hongdou scratched her hair, feeling extremely annoyed.

"Why didn't I think of stopping Genma and the others back then?"

"Genma and the others are really something, why are they so impulsive?"

Hearing her complaining tone, Kurenai couldn't help but roll her eyes.

  They have no conscience.
