Across the city, Director Liang sat alone in his dimly lit study. The call from Su Mei had ended barely a minute ago, yet he hadn't moved an inch since.
After a while, he reached for another phone and scrolled to a single name in his contacts list: Shen Linyi.
The line rang once before she picked up.
"Director Liang," came her calm and unhurried voice.
"There's been movement, just like you had predicted" he said carefully. "Su Mei reached out. She mentioned... possible inconsistencies in the Shen Group's financial summaries."
On the other end, Shen Linyi gave a soft laugh. 'As expected,' she murmured under her breath.
"There are inconsistencies, yes. But not the kind she thinks."
"I thought you should know," he said.
"You did well," Shen Linyi replied. "Let them dig. The more they think they've found something, the easier it becomes for me to close the trap."
He nodded silently, though she couldn't see him.
