LEAH
I walked briskly towards the parked Mercedes and knocked on the window of the backseat a time too many.
The glass rolled down revealing a set of dark almond eyes surrounded with long curvy lashes, almost like the ones I see in my dream, a well defined jaw,and a heart shaped lips and his long pointed nose that fit perfectly on his face. Even artists could not perfect the drawing of this perfect man even if they tried.
He stared at me without a word and an expressionless face. I hadn't seen a man as perfect as he was but that wasn't what I was here for.
" You spilled mud all over my body few hours ago and I demand an apology."I said in the toughest voice in my body I could find.
He stared blankly at me like I was a mad woman ranting.
He made a signal to someone in the front seat and the door quickly opened to reveal an average height middle aged man. Who I assumed was his driver.
Without a word he handed me an envelope, went back into the car and drove off without a word.
The rage inside me built like a fire burning out of control fueled by injustice and hurtful words even if no words were said.
I threw the envelope inside my purse waiting to get home to see the contents .
I took a cab and in no time was back home, memories of that day played in my head. Then it hit me again..I had just lost my job and was back to square one.
I offloaded my purse and stared at the envelope, throwing it away was the only option in mind but I decided to open it and offload the contents.
In less than a minute I was staring at a cash of ten thousand dollars.
In shock I threw the envelope away and stared in disbelief.
" Who does he think he is?!" I asked my myself in utter disappointment and anger.
The plain thought of him thinking I confronted him for the money disgusted me, even though I knew I needed the money at this point.
I sealed the envelope back and threw it inside my drawer. I was going to return it anytime I see him. If I see him.
I texted Ava "We need to talk". With my wet and drenched muddy clothes I lay on my bed staring at the white ceiling, I was practically losing it.
Ava was my best friend right from middle school. Unlike me Ava was happily married with two kids.
I didn't want that life because I hated men. Seeing my mum going through things she could have easily avoided made me hate both my dad and my mum.
Fifteen minutes later, Ava rang the doorbell, I quickly stood up and went to open the door . She was standing there just as I expected ,all puffed up and shining. Her deep brown eyes lit up ,her makeup set to fit the color of her brown long hair. She was indeed looking beautiful.
I looked outside behind her and saw her black Tesla parked outside looking like a damn diamond in the rough shining brightly admits the worn out houses.
She carried nothing but smiles on her face upon seeing me. She was about to give me a hug but I stepped back. I wasn't about to ruin her perfect skin and dress with my wet and soggy clothes.
We headed straight for my bed since that was the only thing we could sit on. I quickly showed her the envelope that was handed to me and told her everything that happened.
"Oh no he didn't." Ava said with her hands over her mouth in disbelief. "So what are you going to do with the money?"She asked and looked at me keenly as if already knowing my reply.
"Of course I'm going to give it back. If I eventually see him."I said with confidence I had no doubt in returning it.
" And if not?"
I shrugged my shoulders and said "whatever" expressing my lack of concern.
Ava sighed and rolled her eyes. She knew nothing she said would change my mind so she didn't bother. Her face suddenly lightened up with a smile. " I have news." She said her face beaming with a smile revealing a set of complete white teeth.
"Okayyyy..?"
" My husband is hosting a gala tomorrow night, I really want to introduce you..pleaseee tell me you will come you can't say no." Her eyes pleaded, staring into mine as she whispered " I need you there." Her voice was barely audible.
I sighed and gave a faint smile. " I guess I finally get to meet your husband." My voice was as uninterested as ever. But she didn't care she was going to see me there and that's all that mattered.
