Chapter 2 - I: The Incident

A century ago

Nine Elders, each a representative from a different race in the magic realm, were seated around a circular table with ancient intricate design. On the center was a levitating giant orb pulsing with manna fueled by the myanrite stone, displaying the geological map of the human world in the non-magical realm. The golden glow indicates the manna sensed in the human world and the Elders' grim faces looking at the growing population of humans that possessed manna clearly stating the dire situation this has become.

"The sacred rule in over a millennia broken like that," the The Sorcerer sighs, "and the worse case is if those humans will soon think beyond such possible matter, the order of balance between the two realms will turn upside down."

The Werewolf scoffed at the Vampire. "If your kind had been considerate enough, this wouldn't have happened!"

"Oh please, old beast. It wasn't my fault you let those troublemakers on the loose. Why blame somebody else?" The Vampire replied.

"It's actually the two of you to blame." The Fairy butts in.

"The damage has been done. Arguing like felines and canines won't change a thing." The Wizard told them.

"We have already terminated a rule against intercourse between two different races here in the magic realm after one fairy had a mischief with a goblin during Interchange of Races, leading to another infidelity and many to follow. But, a human with a magic being? This is beyond the boundary already!" The Vampire uttered firmly.

"If we're lucky enough, the exiled will do their best to blend in the human world without causing trouble..." The Elf pursed a lip.

"No can do." The Goblin argued. "How can you expect someone to hide a secret for a long time till they die? And it's not just their own, but their offspring too?"

"They must be erased. Send ascenders to hunt them down and leave no trace of their existence." The Werewolf suggested.

"Wouldn't that be diabolical?" The Mermaid looked at the werewolf.

"Do you have a better idea?" The Werewolf scowled.

"Take them back here?"

"Take them back and what? Pretend like they never committed a grave sin? And what of the human family?"

"We can take them too."

"We can't keep humans here!" The Werewolf raged. "And they're not gonna last a year even if we do."

"Why?" The Fairy looked at him, suspicious.

The old werewolf slammed both hands on the table, his sharp nails digging into the stone darting everyone's attention to him.

"Think about it." He growled. "Humans cannot live with us. Werewolves. They can't survive long with our nature. Besides, can they really stand the heat of our star? The Astreole is unlike their Sun's mere radiation, they'll be toast in less than an hour."

"Since you're so genuine about keeping them, Syrena, why don't you keep them into your lair?" The Vampire suggests.

"Do they swim? Do they breathe underwater?" The Mermaid tells him. "I'm just telling you to at least be humane, Nikolai."

"We aren't called humans for a reason." The Vampire shot back.

"What about the fairies, Faelan?"

"Can they fly? Can they live in the sky without falling?" The Fairy invoked.

"Alarion?"

"We don't welcome werewolves in our land." The Elf declared.

"Do you consider humans?"

"Worse." The Elf scoffed.

"Nikolai?"

"Well their blood sounds good." The Vampire raised an evil smirk.

"Hard pass. Zephar?"

"We live near the Astreole." The Centaur told her.

"Snark?"

"We could use some human meat." The Goblin shrugged.

"Philip?"

"They won't last a day. Drink one wrong liquid and their whole existence is erased. Not to mention, spells." The Wizard sighed.

"Cairo, you're the only hope."

"All of these is caused because of you imbecile's endless craziness. Not once in the historical records have sorcerers caused problems like this and we will not keep those troublemakers in our well-reserved land. So when it comes to this, it's either keep them someplace in each of your land or hunt them down and erase them." The Sorcerer proclaimed.

"Sounds reasonable." The Vampire cooed. "I won't keep them at my place."

"Me neither." The others followed.

"It should be the werewolf's responsibility." The Mermaid muttered.

"We don't welcome traitors of their kind warmly. It's synonymous as hunting them down and wipe their sin from history." The Werewolf growls.

"Like traitors were very foreign in your kind."

"Then it's final." The Wizard declared. "We'll send ascenders to hunt them down and leave no trace of their existence."

Thus, seven ascenders are tasked to dwell in the human realm to eliminate the exiled and their families by the orders of the Nine Elders.

However, not one came back alive. The case is still a mystery of how they actually died.

The only thing they know is that the seven ascenders died in the Great War that happened in the human realm.

However, none of the Ascenders came back.

"What is GOING ON?!" The Werewolf growled. "How hard can it be to track down a pack of five amateurs?"

"Could they be Ascenders too? If they defeated the Ascenders, then they must be too." The Fairy suspected.

"Or is it your kind again?" The Mermaid eyed the Vampire from across the table.

"Shut it, Syrena. I've already gave a proper edict and my vampires have been in a lockdown. What more do you want?" The Vampire scowled at her.

"You think they became like the other werewolves too? Influence perhaps?" The Goblin inquired.

"If that's so, why don't I see a peculiar glow besides vampires and the exiled here?" The Sorcerer referred to the orb.

"I saw a little tear in the cosmic boundary between realms, leaking a bit of corrupted energy from the Dark Void. You think, it might be related?" The Elf proclaimed.

"Little tear? Why didn't you say so earlier?" The Vampire exclaimed.

"I was planning to! It appeared just recently when I decided to investigate. I don't know how long it had been there." The Elf argued.

"Then this is more than bad news." The Wizard sighs.

Due to the failed extermination, the magic realm fell into chaos and news spread like wildfire. Amidst the chaos ignited the corrupted energy of the Dark Void, an ancient corrupted magic that was in a deep slumber for many years. It released countless corrupted beings that lurked in the magic realm and through the boundary tear, some had gone off into the human world.

The mystery still lies within the disappearance of Ascenders with every task that involves crossing the boundary between realms. It became a huge deal including to those who were left in the human realm.

Thus, the number of human hybrids able to perform magic became numerous as the population grew centuries later.
