Cherreads

Chapter 16 - 16

Chariots racing in the night towards a crypt far off from the Scaleton city walls and its kingdom. The dead of night, as the flame torchers are held onto by the guards riding.

Hitting against the horses to make them go faster, as the unknown men eventually reached the location they needed. " Hurry! " one exclaimed aloud to the others.

Taking off heavy items outside of the wagon, and taking them further inside the crypt and down the steps into a massive chamber. Hearing clanging and banging like the sound of working men.

A unknown man with a hood keeping his face covered as another one approached the walkway and looked over to see the work. The unknown man would turn to the other whose face was obscured for a moment.

" The work is almost completed Master. " The unknown man with a heavily deep voice would express towards the other.

The hood of the other would fall down as it would reveal his face.

" .... Excellent. " Zealot would remark with a devilish smirk as he would stare down at the work being done.

Abigail was able to be outside in the back of the castle surrounded by one of His majesty's gardens. She was able to find peace within that place, since the palace itself was always busy.

She couldn't really think or get alone time otherwise, and this made her feel calm. She did notice workers within the garden, but they normally didn't bother her.

Abby was just delighted that she wasn't alone within the castle. She had Isharuma to help take care of her and someone she could speak to.

She didn't know honestly whether to call him Mr. Lingo or his real name now. She knew him as Mr. Lingo before, but Isharuma seemed much cooler for her to say.

Pondering about it for a moment or two, she had noticed someone walking within the same garden that she was in. To her surprise it was His majesty just causally walking.

She hadn't seen him since the festival, it had been that long. She rarely ever seen him in the castle because they never spoken, and they never ran into one another.

It was a massive castle and so many pathways to take that she would always get lost and keep forgetting which hallway to turn down. It became so overwhelming she just kept asking guards for directions.

This was somewhat beginning to feel like home, considering she had been now staying at the castle for merely two months now. Everything from the outside seemed to be going okay.

Though, there were several parties within those two months, but mainly there were centered around a banquet and mingling. Indicating to Abigail that it would seem his royal court was still trying to find his majesty a bride.

It would also appear to her that he was rejecting every single beautiful royal woman that they sent him to marry. Why was that? What was he hiding about himself that he didn't seem to want to settle down with anyone?

Abigail felt her hands grip her dress once again, before watching Yami silently across the way and head deeper within the garden to another area.

His long draping attire flowing in the breeze as she watched the back of his head. His wild spiky unique hairstyle was the only thing she saw before he disappeared entirely.

Curious she would slowly start to get up from her spot with her diary in hand. Placing a finger within the chapter she was currently writing in, all while gripping the book enough to hold onto.

Eventually, she would start to follow him careful to be quiet enough so he didn't suspect her, and also far enough to know he wasn't being followed.

She believed she was being clever and careful enough to do this, as she watched him turn and cross a small little walkway concrete that she also crossed.

After a while she had lost sight of him as she smacked her lips briefly and turned her head again and again. It wasn't long before she could see a small fragment of his drape before it disappeared over a hedge.

She would quickly and swiftly catch up to him before she realized she had reached the end of the garden and was now in the back end of the castle. Although, her mouth looked in awe at what she discovered.

Having no idea that the back of the castle was a massively huge open fielded with statues mini gardens and water fountains. Although, the most memorable part about it was that it had an open massive view of the ocean and the horizon.

It was taking her breath away as she noticed that she didn't see the king anywhere. She looked left and right and folded her arms a bit.

" ... W.. wha— where did he go? " She questioned curiously wondering how she had lost him so quickly once more.

" And what may I ask are you doing back here? " He would ask her from behind as Abigail quickly turned around and fell to the ground in a frightened look.

The fall made the king somewhat chuckle as he covered his mouth and walked a bit closer towards her.

" ... Are you.. alright? " He asked her.

Abigail feeling her heart racing inside her chest as she held her heart tightly trying to catch her breath. She didn't know what to say, and she was also extremely mad at him.

" ... I see... " The king remarked.

" ... Do you need some ... assistance woman? " Yami asked to her as he slowly extended his hand out for her to grab.

Abigail knitting her eyes brows into a frown as he seemed to have found that too funny. She was now annoyed as she got up on her own without his help.

" I don't need your help! " She barked back at him.

Yami arching a brow at her as he slowly then placed his hand against his chin tapping it gently. Almost like he was deep in a pondering moment — as if he was trying to remember something.

Abigail noticing the gesture arched a brow herself and looked at him with confusion.

" .... What are you doing now? " She asked him.

Yami slowly placed his hand down at his side and tilted his head slightly at her. The sun slowly rising up between them, as their features were fully exposed.

" .... Well... Ms. Abigail if I'm not mistaken— this altercation between you and I — is precisely like the same one when we first saw one another in my castle hallways back at the festival. "

Abby keeping quiet as he spoke to her. Her taking notice of his charming features once again.

The breeze blowing his and her hair gently side to side.

" If I remember correctly you were also snooping around in places you shouldn't be.. " He added further.

" .. I — I wasn't snooping... " Abigail quickly replied back to him.

" ... Really? Then what do you call yourself doing? " He said sarcastically.

Abigail shifted her orbs down a bit at the ground and then bit her bottom lip in a ponder. She didn't know what to tell him honestly.

Telling him that she was somewhat following him around to be nosey didn't seem like the smart option to express. She also didn't want to tell him the truth because knowing him he'd just laugh at her again.

Right now she was at an impasse that made her feel stupid.

" ... Well.. I — " She was beginning to say, as Yami continued to look at her squinting his orbs down at bit in a tease.

Abby seeing his facial expressions sighed and rolled her eyes at him. After a second or so she shrugged her shoulders and folded her arms up at him still holding her diary.

" I'm just — you know— walking... taking a stroll, and I — got lost so I was— " Abigail tried to fumble around and say.

All this lost thinking however made Yami form a smile that was turning into a charming laugh which he couldn't help but to form.

Abigail hearing him laugh again she became irritable again.

" What!? It's true! " She yelled.

" Right—- and stalking me— had absolutely nothing to do with it... yes? " Yami told her directly.

Abby hearing his direct remark formed a blush against her pale cheeks. The two eyeing one another as Abigail tried to break the truth with another lie.

" Pfff— what? Stalking you?? I wasn't— I mean I wasn't — " She tried to express as she closed her eyes thinking and trying to keep eye contact with him.

However, when she reopened her eyes she saw his beautiful smile laughing at her mistakes and her behavior all over again. Which only made her feel more embarrassed and ridiculous.

" ..... Fuck... " She said in defeat finally as Yami shrugged his shoulders back at her.

" Indeed, My lady. " He told her back.

Abigail simply listening to him and looking at him.

" Although.... " Yami started to say as he slowly removed his hands from behind his back and glanced down at the book she was holding.

" I never met a lady who speaks with such.... Vulgar language .... Let alone ... reading a book.. " He told her all while yanking the book from her hand with a quickness.

Abigail taking notice as she tried to grab the book back from him as he kept it from her. Taking her other hand all while keeping her at bay from it.

" Hey give that back ! " Abigail quickly tried to say as she continued to try and get it from him with a swiftness.

She definitely didn't want him reading her diary.

" My— my — " Yami begin to tease.

" In a hurry to get this reading done are we?? " He added as he looked up at it and noticed it had said diary on it.

Yami didn't know what a diary was truthfully, but judging by how Abigail was acting it was valuable to her and important.

" Give me back my diary! You're invading my privacy here! " She argued with him as he pushed her back gently on her stomach.

Yami chuckled a bit and questioned her.

" Tell me — what is this ' diary? ' is it something you write your dirty secrets in I wonder— " Yami teased on her, causing Abigail to blush and try and reach for it again.

" I said give it back! — invasion of privacy ! "

They both stopped briefly as he arched a brow.

" Interesting choice of words.... You mean like how you've been invading my home, and my festivals and now you're in an inner sanctum of my garden that only I may enter in? And yet I am the one invading your ' privacy? ' " He remarked back towards Abigail.

Abigail hearing him stopped trying to get the diary for a moment and listened to him. She realized now what he was doing and so she sighed.

" .... Alright... fine.. I'm— sorry.. " She remarked towards him.

Yami hearing her apologize smirked a bit before opening the diary and that's when Abigail orbs widened and immediately leaped on Yami.

Without a second thought she took action and jumped on top of the king as they both fell down on the grass beneath them. The diary falling out of his hand and sliding across the grass only but a few feet away.

Abigail bumping her head against his slightly as she rubbed her forehead and slowly started to lift up a bit. Yami wenching his eyes down a bit as he came too and noticed Abigail on top of him straddling him.

Meanwhile Mahad had been looking for the king for a minute now and had been asking his private handmaids where he was. They had pointed out that he had been walking in the direction to the gardens again.

Mahad remembering what they told him finally reached the inner garden area where he knew Yami usually was. Although he had came from a different direction to get towards it.

However, once he did arrive he was about to speak until he had noticed both the king and Abigail on top of one another lying in the grass together.

Mahad orbs widened briefly before standing far away and yet close enough to hear them speak towards each other. Maintaining a safe distance to stay out of sight and watch.

Abby finally coming to sighed and looked around for her diary and noticed it. Although, she didn't seem to really care or notice she was on the king the way she was.

" .... Oh no— my lady, by all means... take your time getting up ... it's not like my castles doesn't have eyes upon me every day... " Yami sarcastically teased to her to get her to notice she was on him.

Abigail hearing him immediately realized where she was sitting and her face became hot red. Quickly she fumbled to get up somewhat stepping on Yami in doing so.

" Hey! Watch it! " He quickly remarked in another language she didn't understand as the two of them were somewhat tangled up together.

" Sorry! Sorry! " Abby quickly expressed as she rushed over to get her diary from the ground.

Then quickly she rushed back to his majesty, as he was gently dusting himself off, Abigail would assist in doing so but much rougher and quicker.

This made Yami grip her wrist on both arms causing Abigail to look him deep in his purple gleaming eyes. The same eyes she saw at the festival were now locked on her yet again.

" .... Relax.... " He told her calmly.

" Must you be so rough— with everything and everyone you touch? " He questioned.

Abigail hearing him would yank her hands away with a slight anger upon his words.

" Well forgive me if I'm not the lady you expect me to be! We weren't all raised in a damn fancy castle. "

Abigail turning her back on him. Yami would briefly look down and then at her again.

" ... But surely someone — your mother— perhaps father? Taught you mannerisms ? "

Hearing that Abigail kept her back turned towards him and held back the tears she wanted to let fall down her cheeks. Though she could feel Yami slowly approaching her.

" ... Don't... " She quickly said as Yami was only an inch away from her standing behind her.

" .... Abigail... " Yami would say in his seductive, charming and accent deep voice.

That sent a chill up Abby's spine, that same chill she felt when they danced together. Why was she feeling this way again— it couldn't mean?

Abigail turning around slowly to him, as she eyed him.

" .... Simply because I was born in a royal family ... does not mean I think less of the people I rule over ... " Yami begin to tell her.

" ... Forgive me... I am not good with— kindness some days... and the many women I have been around... they are— well — they aren't like you... "

" Strong-willed, very outspoken — seem to be fearless when it comes to those within power ... it is — admiring but yet ... dangerous .. you cannot blame me for not seeing that on a daily with the type of company I am accustomed too. " Yami explained calmly to her.

Abigail continued to listen intensively as she would eventually turn and face him completely.

" ... I — I suppose I understand... " She would remark back to him.

A small gap between the two of them, as they happened to be the same height, but only because Yami had heels on. The calm breeze continuing to blow as Mahad looked on still.

" .... May I ask you a — personal question. " Abigail would boldly ask.

Yami looking at her wouldn't say anything, almost as if he was simply just waiting for the question.

" .... When Mr. Lingo — I mean— Isharuma asked you to take care of me .... Why? — why would you do that for him... you don't owe me anything? " She asked Yami.

Yami sighed deeply as if he was exhaling before responding to her.

" ... I see what he is trying to protect— I understand his motives.... And your — relationship with him— you are not kin... but for him to risk his own life and safety to save a woman he does not know.... How could I not honor a man of that caliber? " His majesty replied to her.

" ... Really? ... that's it? You're doing it for him simply for honor and to accept an old man's wishes? " Abigail tried to pry in and ask.

Yami his head slightly tilted looked at her with an open minded expression.

" .... Yes.... Or — perhaps.... Maybe the woman in whom he wishes to protect — I myself have grown rather interested in her and why she's trying so depressingly hard to stay invisible.... " Yami told Abigail who was somewhat speechless to respond back.

Although Yami shrugged and teased at her once more saying.

" Who can say... but I do hope she sticks around longer this time so that I may give her those answers she so desperately wishes to know about me.... "

The two would stare at one another, as Abby took in consideration all of what the king had said towards her.

" Your majesty.. " Mahad would finally chime in and speak aloud, as he would slowly start to approach them both.

Yami would slowly turn around, leaving a stunned and speechless Abigail towards her thoughts.

" Ah.. Mahad... what a pleasant surprise... to what do I owe such a lovely greeting? " Yami remarked.

" Forgive me for the intrusion your grace, but master Barclays would like to speak with you in the counsel room as well as Ishiza she is waiting. "

Yami would nod briefly and turn to look back at a non-talking Abigail. Who would eye him one last time.

" ... Until we meet again, yes? " Yami would say towards Abigail who could but only nod at his remark as he turned and started to walk away with Mahad.

" And oh? — before I forget yes—" Yami stopped to say towards Abigail with a joke.

" Hopefully the next time we encounter you aren't stalking me from the garden all the way here to the inner sanctum? A simple— may I walk with you — your grace, shall suffice. "

Abigail jolting a bit with her body as in a surprised way. She didn't understand how he knew she was following him from the garden to here.

She didn't even see him turn around once to see if he was being followed, and what's more — he was further ahead than her before she even started to follow him.

That alone made her perplexed and nervous as he would wink at her and proceed to once again walk away with Mahad until they both were long gone.
