Chapter 30- Sky Of Tides (Part 2)

Far in the distance, amongst the endless waves of Undead, stood an absurdly tall creature — towering over every other monster around it as if it were a giant from old tales. Its body was incredibly large, easily the size of several normal Undead. Its eyes burned red, and its mouth was wide open, as if ready to feast on its targets at any given moment.

Its muscular body pushed every Undead out of its way as it marched slowly, stomping on several in the process without a single care in the world. Its one and only target was clear — the walls of the base.

Just a mere glance at this behemoth of a creature made all the soldiers crumble. They felt it — the sheer power of this monstrosity. It was no normal Undead, certainly nothing their bullets could affect.

If this army of abominations was a disaster, then that creature was their end — the final nail in the coffin of this last standing base.

Slowly, the monster's steps started speeding up, carving a path through the army. From slow steps to casual strides, to faster steps and then — to a full sprint.

It ran faster than any of the other Undead, stomping and killing several of them as it closed the distance at a horrifying pace.

For a second, nobody reacted out of pure horror and sheer shock. But a loud yell snapped everyone out of their daze.

"FIRE!!! FIRE ON THAT THING!!!"

As if the call woke them all up, they looked down at their weapons. Despair, fear, and even hopelessness were clear in their eyes, yet they still picked up their weapons. What other choice did they have? If they gave up, then nothing but imminent death awaited them.

They had to fight till the last breath. It was their one and only chance.

"FIRE!!!" The voice yelled again, and as a sign, a rain of bullets fell on the army once more. The tanks increased the speed of their blasts, and the rounds of bullets started being emptied faster than before.

Against such an intense attack, even a building would be rendered completely useless in a matter of seconds — and yet, much to their horror, the bullets all bounced off the monster's weirdly thick skin. Every projectile ricocheted and hit the smaller Undead while the monster increased its speed, not caring for anything.

"I-It's not… stopping…" one soldier said as he stared in despair. "It can't be stopped…"

"DON'T STOP FIRING!!!"

"..."

In a few seconds, the distance between them and the creature shortened to merely a few hundred meters while their bullets continued bouncing off the monster's body.

"Shit… Shit, shit, shit! It's not slowing down!!"

"It's going to slam into the wall!!"

Realizing what the monster intended to do, the soldiers felt their hearts drop to their stomachs as they quickly looked back.

"RAAAAAAAA!!!"

"We can't stay here…"

"What?"

"I said we can't stay the fuck here!!!"

"RAAAAA!!!"

"Get off the goddamn wall!!!"

A yell pierced through the confused masses and made them understand what was about to happen. By that time, the distance was merely a few dozen meters.

"JUMP!!!"

Seeing no other chance of resisting, the soldiers leaped off the wall, throwing their weapons away.

"AGGGGH!!!"

A split second later, the largest impact in the entire battle occurred, sending shockwaves in every direction. The entire base shook from its core, and many lost their balance while others felt their legs wobble.

Cracks spread across the entire frame of the wall from the outside as chunks fell to the ground. The monster slowly pulled back and stared at the wall. Its run had left a huge crater in the surface — a dozen inches deep, with cracks spreading several meters in every direction.

However, it didn't pierce the wall entirely. After all, this wall was three meters thick and made fully of iron and fortified cement. It was something made to handle extremely strong hits from tank shells, missiles, and other heavy attacks.

Yet even then, one single monster left a crater big enough to dwarf the impact of a launched missile.

"Lord have mercy…" The generals stared at the scenes of panic and chaos with pale, stunned expressions. It was simply incomprehensible. Everything was incomprehensible. It was a sick joke.

Even as the soldiers ran away, nobody spoke or tried to stop them. What words could they say that would make these terrified soldiers return to their posts? The horror they had witnessed in these past three hours was enough to dwarf the wars they had been through.

"RAAAAA!!!"

The monster roared with anger before it slammed its fists against the wall. Each hit was strong and heavy, shaking the entire structure in the process. Then, it slammed again. With each hit, the cracks widened and the crater deepened.

"What should we do? It's going to break through the wall!"

"..."

"Sir!!!"

"What can we do?"

"..." The man didn't answer as he stared at the scene before slowly pulling his hat off his head. "Do? Nothing except God can defeat such a force… We are completely powerless."

BANG

"We were never meant to fight against this… It was the end of the world from the very first moment."

BANG

"Bullets don't work, missiles don't work… Nothing works," the man whispered. "We are truly doomed."

Then, he sucked in a deep breath and looked at his men. "Go inside. Hug your families. Be with them… This might be the very last time you'll ever see them."

His words left everyone in shock. Nobody knew what to say, and certainly nobody could say "Let's fight," because this was no fight… This was a one-sided massacre.

Then, slowly, one of them stepped back and ran inside. Another followed, and then another, and soon enough, everyone ran back inside. They didn't care anymore. In these last moments before the disaster, they wanted to hug their loved ones and try to appease the terrified masses.

Meanwhile, the general stood outside, still staring at the Undead as they piled on top of one another, while the large one relentlessly slammed into the wall.

"Sigh… What a way to die."

"Holy shit… What the hell am I even seeing?" Alex muttered as he stared into the distance. He couldn't imagine how huge the horde of Undead was. It was truly like an endless sea of monsters that couldn't be stopped.

"How are we supposed to even bypass that?" Evan asked.

"So terrifying…"

Jack stood near the edge with his feet on the stone balcony, analyzing the situation. His eyes scanned the area and then locked on the large creature at the very head of the army.

'That thing…' He squinted. 'It looks pretty strong.'

"We won't be able to get through by normal means," he said. "We'll have to somehow open a path through."

"Hm…" Luna hummed. "Another bait plan, Jack?"

"Possibly. But I'm not too sure with this many monsters."

"For now… We'll stand here and watch the situation a bit. I'll figure something out," he said as he jumped down. 'I need to first prepare myself before we engage in any kind of battle.'

And the very first thing he wanted to do was check his stamps and see what they would give him.
