Chapter 207 - Chapter 207: Popularity

What is love like between men and women in Westeros? It's... very direct.

Greene Kleber glanced at Daenerys, who was sound asleep, gently lifted the thin blanket, and climbed out of bed.

Moonlight poured through the room's window, casting a silvery glow on the marble floor.

Greene walked to the window, softly opened it, and a cool night breeze brushed his face.

After standing for a while, Greene rubbed his dark black hair. Perhaps being direct had its advantages; the transition from stranger to intimacy was quick.

Next step... Greene's long fingers tapped lightly on the window sill.

What would his future with Daenerys be like?

Did he and Daenerys need to agree in advance on the ownership of the Iron Throne?

Does Daenerys, now or in the future, have any interest in the Iron Throne?

If he asked directly, would Daenerys be honest? Or rather... would the current answer be the future answer?

Greene's eyes, gazing at the dark night sky, trembled slightly. At this moment... breaking this barrier... was it necessary?

After an unknown amount of time, Greene's fingers stopped tapping. He had made a decision—the will of the people.

Lord Green, unique.

First, start from the bed. This isn't a power play; this is a Westerosi romance.

...

Daenerys called out softly at the opportune moment: "Greene..."

Greene looked in the direction of the voice. Dragonstone Princess was lying on her side, propped on her cheek. Seeing his gaze shift, she slowly pulled back the covers.

Although the room was dim, Daenerys's fair skin seemed to glow, not only displaying her grace but also beckoning with a hook of her finger.

So audacious... Greene's Adam's apple unconsciously bobbed.

He moved his steps towards the bed... The astute Greene had long noticed that Daenerys's stamina was extraordinary. Was this a unique buff belonging to Dragon Mother?

Greene felt—it was time to show his true strength!

...Soft moans and whispers...

...

Morning, Governor's Mansion, training ground.

Greene raised his specially made strong bow, drawing the string taut. The audience beside him were three little dragons with "morning grumpiness."

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Every arrow Greene shot brought with it a hair-raising sound of cutting through the air.

The three little dragons stayed put obediently. This morning's music lesson seemed to make them feel Greene's profound paternal love.

Greene put away his longbow and handed it to a servant. He made a gesture, and the three well-behaved little dragons were put into special boxes by the servants and taken away from the training ground.

Not long after, Mondon and Anguy walked over together and saluted Greene.

Greene handed the towel he had used to wipe his hands to a servant and said, "Does she have any symptoms of pregnancy?"

Anguy and Mondon exchanged glances. He said, "My Lord, I found three physicians separately, and they all gave the same answer: Rennel is not pregnant."

After Greene heard Jon's romantic story from Daenerys, he immediately took control of Rennel, who had just arrived at Vaes Dothrak. The cautious Lord Green felt that the story was too wonderful.

Greene nodded and said, "Anguy, find a suitable reason to let Rennel leave, and then..."

After a moment of thought, he added, "I need you to find out who the people behind her are."

"Are you suspicious...?"

"Jon Snow's experiences after arriving in Essos seem like a pre-written play. This cannot be explained by coincidence."

Young Griff had already been dealt with by him, so Greene naturally had to take the initiative.

Anguy solemnly accepted the order: "My Lord, I will arrange everything. They will not escape my eyes."

Greene reached out and patted Anguy's arm: "I'm leaving Mondon here to help you. I have no other specific orders. When you discover a threat... I allow you to judge how to deal with it yourselves. I'm just waiting for the day I personally knight you."

The Vale was waiting for Lord Green to arrive, and he could not stay in Essos for a long time, but he did not want to leave behind trouble, so he chose the combination of Mondon and Anguy.

...

Governor's Mansion Hall, Daenerys, wearing an exquisite headscarf, appeared arm-in-arm with Greene. Her purple eyes were bright as stars, radiant and full of vitality, easily conveying her joyful mood.

Everyone saluted, and she responded to each of them in a good mood.

Daenerys paused in front of a strong old man with a white beard and white hair. She looked him over briefly and said, "White Beard A Stan? The champion of the melee tournament?"

White Beard A Stan glanced at Greene, who was standing beside Daenerys. He bowed slightly: "It is my honor to meet you, Dragonstone Princess of Targaryen."

Daenerys nodded slightly and said, "I heard that during the fire that night, your sword killed the leader of the rebellious Sellsword. You are very brave."

Daenerys looked to the other side and called out, "Ser Jorah."

Jorah Mormont strode over and placed his hand on his chest: "Princess Daenerys."

Daenerys continued, "Ser Jorah, I want you to knight A Stan."

Ser Jorah stared at White Beard for a while, then suspiciously said, "You look very familiar... Old man, tell me your true identity."

A Stan straightened up and replied coldly, "A better knight than you, Ser."

After speaking, he looked at Greene and added, "Count Greene, I never expected to meet you here. I've always wanted to thank you in person for your help. If you hadn't shown me mercy, perhaps I would have remained in the Red Keep forever (Chapter 168)."

Daenerys's brows furrowed: "You are a knight?"

She looked up at Greene and asked again, "Greene, do you two know each other?"

Greene nodded slightly: "He is Ser Barristan Selmy."

Ser Jorah's face suddenly flushed: "It's really you!"

With a clang, he drew his sword, and the tip of the longsword rested against Barristan's (White Beard A Stan's) neck.

"Barristan the Bold! Lord Commander of the Kingsguard of the Usurper Robert Baratheon! A traitor to Targaryen!"

Barristan held his head high, ignoring Ser Jorah's longsword, and replied coldly, "The pot calling the kettle black. How dare you speak of betrayal?"

Greene looked at Ser Jorah, his voice laced with warning: "Ser of Bear Island, who allowed you to draw your sword in front of the Princess?"

Ser Jorah immediately glanced at the frowning Daenerys, hesitated, and then moved his longsword away from Barristan's neck.

As he sheathed his sword, he said, "Princess Daenerys, Barristan is the Usurper's man. We cannot trust him."

Ser Jorah's words were met with a scornful snort from Ser Barristan.

Why did Jorah Mormont suddenly change from his usual composure? Greene's eyebrows raised slightly. He was afraid Barristan would reveal his hidden identity.

After all, this was Daenerys's "territory," and Greene couldn't directly handle it for her. Moreover, some things were unavoidable, or could be said to be the price of a certain growth.

Thinking of this, Greene spoke: "Daenerys, Barristan has been expelled from the Red Keep by Lannister. His current identity is..."

As he spoke, he looked at Ser Barristan, then continued: "A wandering knight?"

Barristan first nodded in thanks to Greene, then knelt on one knee: "Princess Daenerys, if you are willing to accept, I will always be your loyal knight until the end of my life."

After a pause, he continued, "If not, I am content to serve as a squire to a knight you trust."

Daenerys clenched her fists and said, "You were once a Kingsguard to my father, and you fought alongside my brother on the Trident River, but then you betrayed the exiled Prince Viserys and knelt to the Usurper. By your honor as a knight, tell me, why was that?"

"Princess Daenerys, I have stained the white cloak upon me. No matter how good the excuse, it cannot justify it."

Ser Barristan raised his head, tears in his eyes: "If the evil boy on the Iron Throne had not stripped me of my duties, perhaps I would still be serving in King's Landing. It shames me to admit this, but it is the truth."

He continued, "When the white cloak, representing sacred vows, was taken by Lannister and they sent people to hunt me down, the film over my eyes seemed to suddenly lift. I realized I had to find a path to atonement for myself, even if it meant sacrificing my life."

Hearing this, Greene's eyes trembled slightly. Why didn't he say he was looking for the true king?

Rumor has it... madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin into the air, and the whole world holds its breath to observe its landing.

Was he maintaining his observer status at this moment? Did he want to observe for a period to determine whether Daenerys would become Mad King the Second?

Indeed... in the world of Westeros, noble bloodlines were the will of the people in their hearts.

Greene's heart, one could say, was completely undisturbed, because he knew from the beginning that the game of power he had chosen was of hellish difficulty.

Lord Green was very optimistic. If the difficulty wasn't high, how could he show his excellence, cough!

The future Emperor Greene was not flustered at all.
