Chapter 60 - Chapter 60 The High Court Messenger Who Should Not Appear

Duke Jon suddenly asked, "Has the Kingswood Hunting been held on time?"

This was the second time; Duke Jon had asked the same question yesterday.

Petyr, with his head slightly bowed, had a fleeting sneer on his lips: "Yes, they have all set off, and the noble ladies of the Crownlands have also arrived as scheduled, so you can rest assured."

Duke Jon nodded slightly: "Petyr, you must remember, do not underestimate this kind of activity; it will unknowingly capture people's hearts."

Petyr bowed with his hand on his chest, his voice very respectful: "Thank you for your guidance, my lord, I will bear it in mind."

"The Queen..."

Petyr noticed that Duke Jon, who was about to speak, seemed to fall into thought and stood quietly by his side.

...

After a while, Duke Jon finally spoke: "I have handled state affairs for many years and have met all kinds of people, but thinking of that young Baron Green always makes me uneasy. It's ridiculous, he's just a boy, and I don't know why I feel this way."

Petyr's eyes flickered as he comforted him: "You might be too tired. Anyone would not be in good condition when tired."

Duke Jon ignored Petyr's comfort and continued: "Queen Cersei's willfulness is unpredictable. A person with such a character must never be allowed to hold a sharp sword in her hand; she will eventually do something astonishing. You must trust an old man's judgment; my honor does not allow me to slander Her Majesty the Queen."

Duke Jon raised his slightly trembling hand, and Petyr quickly stepped forward and held it with both hands.

"The people of Crab Claw Point are beasts in human skin, a bloodthirsty sword."

Duke Jon was a very practical man and would not exaggerate things. Hearing this, Petyr suddenly felt a chill in the place on his chest where Green had cut him.

"Petyr, we must find a way to take this bloodthirsty sword from the Queen's hand."

Petyr naturally understood what Duke Jon meant; he wanted him to deal with Baron Green, or at least drive Baron Green out of King's Landing.

Petyr had a bit of a headache; he actually didn't want to contact Baron Green again in a short time.

After much deliberation during this period, Petyr gained a deeper understanding of the game of power.

Military nobles like Baron Green would adhere to the rules of the game when it was advantageous to them, but when they were at a disadvantage, they would not obey any rules; they would choose to resort to the most primitive violence.

After realizing this, Petyr felt an inexplicable emotion in his heart.

...

Although Petyr thought a lot in an instant, he showed no expression on his face: "My Lord Duke, in fact, your method is very good; sending Baron Green to deal with the Targaryen hatchling is justifiable."

Petyr was Duke Jon's trusted confidant, promoted by him, and was very familiar with many of Duke Jon's affairs.

Petyr curled his lips and lightly patted the back of Duke Jon's hand: "Your benevolence has given him a month. If he refuses, he cannot remain in King's Landing, because King Robert will not..."

Petyr's gaze showed reverence: "If Baron Green accepts, he must also leave King's Landing, as the Targaryen hatchling is across the Strait. You are a brilliant chess player; in fact, you have already completed the layout, and only need to wait for good news."

...

In the Royal Forest, under the clear blue sky, branches intertwined among the trees.

Without rain all the way, the Kingswood Hunting party arrived at their destination on time.

Even before leaving King's Landing, Green had already arranged for people to go ahead with temporarily recruited craftsmen.

All the tents Queen Cersei would use had been set up before their arrival, and the ground inside the tents was already covered with pre-laid wooden flooring.

This morning, the carpet merchant Pittery, who had arrived early, had also laid out his Myr carpets on the floor.

Due to time constraints, Green could only do so much; everything else followed custom. The additional funds he received from Petyr were mainly used to increase Queen Cersei's satisfaction.

A pleased Queen Cersei would not care how many gold dragons Green spent or how many he had left.

As for the other people's tents, Green maintained the custom, and the busy crowds were beginning to set them up.

...

Inside the Queen's tent.

At this moment, only Cersei and Green were present.

Queen Cersei was a "homebody" who preferred to stay in the Red Keep most of the time; she never liked dirt roads and dust, so she was very satisfied with Green's meticulous arrangements.

Queen Cersei was dressed in a sheer, slit nightgown, her delicate figure subtly visible, which left Green's gaze nowhere to rest.

I can't break character; that would deprive Boss Cersei of some fun. Green could only lower his eyes to study the patterns of the Myr carpet below.

...

Queen Cersei still held a full glass of summer red in her hand.

Queen Cersei glanced sideways at Green's appearance, a hint of a smile in her eyes.

"Baron Green, has Highgarden replied?"

Green looked up, his brown eyes meeting Queen Cersei's: "Yes, Your Majesty, the Highgarden messenger just arrived. My Clan Soldiers happen to be responsible for the outer perimeter guard over there, so I directly arranged for the Highgarden messenger to go elsewhere, where he won't be discovered by anyone here."

After rubbing the cup for a while with her thumb, Queen Cersei took a sip of summer red before speaking: "You did very well. Intercepting the Inflatable Fish's messenger was the right thing to do; don't let him appear in public for now."

Green shrugged, his tone tinged with helplessness: "I just habitually made some extra preparations. Actually, I didn't really want my arrangements to be put to use. I can only guess that the Duke of Highgarden was too happy after learning you were sending an envoy."

After a pause, Green continued: "Our raven implicitly suggested important matters to discuss. Normally, both sides have an understanding, for example, I would go to Highgarden under the guise of purchasing grain."

Green was killing two birds with one stone, working for Queen Cersei and incidentally purchasing a batch of grain for his territory.

...

Queen Cersei glanced sideways at Green: "My little Baron, have you discovered something?"

Green spread his hands: "What should have been an ordinary matter has shown abnormal phenomena. I think there must be some unexpected things mixed in.

Perhaps someone within Highgarden does not want to see the Duke of Highgarden establish... friendship with Her Majesty the Queen?"

Queen Cersei slammed her wine glass onto the table with a bang, her beautiful eyes fixed on Green, her tone cold: "Who is it? Who dares to hinder my affairs?"

Even if I guess, I can't tell Queen Cersei. What if she gets angry and tells me to go to Highgarden and chop someone down?

Working for Boss Cersei isn't easy!

Green actually missed Jaime. If he were here, even if Queen Cersei said it, he would actively stop her.

Jaime has been a bit derelict recently. He's usually inseparable from Queen Cersei, so why isn't he often by her side?

Green stepped forward, picked up the wine jug, and poured wine: "Your Majesty, anyone in Highgarden is possible; there's no definite person for now."

After filling the glass, Green put the wine jug back and added: "When I arrive in Highgarden, if anyone obstructs Your Majesty, I will deal with them one by one."

Queen Cersei leaned back in the chair with a wanton posture, picked up her wine glass again, and a smile played on her lips: "Then they'll have to be careful; they don't know how sharp your blade is!"

Queen Cersei raised her wine glass, lifted her beautiful chin, and took a sip of summer red: "I agree."

Many thanks for your support!
