I don't remember walking back to my dorm. One minute I'm standing in the library hallway watching Ethan walk away, and the next I'm swiping my keycard and pushing open my door at 11:58 PM.
Riley's awake, sitting cross-legged on her bed with her laptop and headphones around her neck. She looks up when I walk in. "Hey. How was—" She stops and stares at me. "What happened?"
"Nothing. Just studying."
"Avery."
"What?"
"You have that look." She closes her laptop and sits up straighter. "The boy look."
My stomach flips. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yes you do. You came in here looking like someone just told you the meaning of life and also might have kissed you. Or almost kissed you. Or said something that made you think about kissing."
"That's very specific."
"Am I wrong?"
I don't answer, just pull off my shoes and start getting ready for bed. Riley watches me with a growing grin. "There's a boy."
"There's not—"
