Chapter 13 - Chapter 12. Training begins.

Consciousness returned with a searing migraine. Wincing as he slowly opened his eyes, Yamcha was met with an unfamiliar ceiling. As he tried to remember how he got here, he is interrupted by a deep, slightly amused voice.

"Hi," He jumped again, nearly falling out of the bed he awoke in. "Was he here the whole time?" He thought.

"My my, I never thought I'd see a descendant of one of those foolish Otsutsuki again."

A chill shot down Yamcha's spine. He rapidly searched his memories, trying to remember if he had a chance to tell Popo about his other life. As he thought back, he remembered activating his byakugan, then nothing. Only faint impressions echoed in his mind. Endless symmetry of ever changing cosmic geometry, the heart beat of reality, and the deep crushing feeling of being so infinitesimally small, like an ant gazing into the infinite void.

"You have my apologies, it's been so long since your specific abilities existed here I'd stopped guarding against them." He explained.

"How? How do you know about that?" Yamcha questioned, but before he could even finish his sentence he felt a light poke on his forehead. With seemingly no movement or displacement of air, Popo was in front of him.

"No need to worry about all that. I believe you wished to meet with Kami regarding your quaint ideas of Fuinjutsu, yes?"

At the light tap the throbbing in his mind suddenly ceased. At the same time, the jumbled mess of everything he saw was locked away, leaving only an echo of their impact.

"Y-yes." He replied. The sudden change leaves him momentarily stunned.

"Follow me then." Popo replied, turning and walking out of the room. Quickly scrambling out of bed, Yamcha followed closely behind. As he walked he noticed that all of his clothes were cleaned while he was asleep. He wasn't too bothered, he'd seen Piccolo and Kami create clothing with Ki before, so it wasn't far-fetched that Kami could clean his while wearing them.

Popo was mercifully quiet on their short walk, giving Yamcha ample time to reorganize his thoughts. It was obvious now that Popo was entirely outside his current understanding of the universes. For his own sanity he decided to stop looking into the subject for now, though he did file away that tidbit of seeing Otsutsuki again for later.

After a few minutes of silent walking, the strange duo finally made it back outside. The questionably less sane former bandit saw Kami standing a short distance away. Popo stopped at the entrance and ushered Yamcha forward, and with a quick nod to Kami, went back inside the central palace.

"Thats good," he thought, "I'm not certain if trying to scan him with the byakugan is considered rude, and frankly I'm too afraid to ask." He wasn't sure what he could really do if Popo was mad at him. Nor was he sure what Popo would do. After all, he is shockingly neutral for a being of his magnitude.

"Ah Yamcha," the old man began, "I hear from Korin you are here for training?"

"I am, has he told you about my situation?"

"He has. Quite the adventure you've been on since we last met." Kami smiled.

While Yamcha was asleep, Kami had communicated with Korin, asking about the warrior's intentions and current skill. He was shocked to say the least. A foreign soul merged within an already living host.

"Honestly," the old namekian thought, "King Yemma must be bored."

But more than surprised he was intrigued, no other human Kami had ever seen had powers like Yamcha's. He could feel a potent mental energy rolling off of Yamcha in waves, despite him keeping his powers suppressed. If the ideas he had heard Popo muttering about were true, then this young man may actually be able to take his position as guardian. He had offered the position to Son Goku based on strength alone, though he was promptly rebuffed. But, standing before him was a man of similar strength, but more suited to the mystical abilities that were inherent with the position. Yes, he would aid in Yamcha's training, and he would observe to see if he is worthy.

"So, will you help me? The earth will face many trials in the coming years. I want to make sure we are ready, and part of that is mastering everything I've gained from this fusion."

A cunning grin spread on the old namekian's face. "He's off to an amazing start" he mused internally, already slightly smug about his plan.

"I will aid you." Kami began, "As guardian, it is my duty to ensure the planet's safety."

Yamcha let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried that his past would tarnish Kami's view of him. With his aid, and the gathered knowledge available on the lookout, he could begin to set his plans in motion.

"Let us begin," Kami interrupted his train of thought and motioned to the more open area of the lookout. "It is true we have sparred before, but much has changed within you. Allow me to gauge this new Yamcha."

What followed was a masterclass in technique. While Yamcha's technical ability and experience had increased greatly since the fusion, he had yet to fully integrate all of his gains.

Kami, on the other hand, had hundreds of years of experience. So while Yamcha held the edge in power, it wasn't so overwhelming that he could overcome the guardian.

Each strike was dodged or redirected, a seemingly gentle tap to the wrist diverting strikes. This wasn't even factoring in Kami's subtle use of ki.

Whereas Yamcha had encountered this level of skill, if not greater, from Master Roshi, he had never seen such masterful use of ki. Gentle pulses redirecting blows, external control to hasten or slow movement, even the creation of constructs to disrupt his attack rhythm.

Using a brief opening to gain a bit of distance he activated his byakugan, hoping that its observational and predictive abilities would level the playing field. As his ki flared and his eyes changed however, he was momentarily frozen in shock.

"Impossible! Your ki… it's almost entirely yin? You barely have a drop of physical energy, how are you alive?" Yamcha was dumbfounded, he had never seen such a wild imbalance of energies in either of his lives.

Kami raised a non-existent eye brow, "So, those eyes allow you to view ki hm? That would explain why you passed out for a week after observing Popo."

An involuntary shiver ran through Yamcha as he remembered his folly. "Wait…" he froze again, picking out a detail from Kami's words.

"I WAS UNCONSCIOUS FOR A WEEK?"

He was shocked, he thought he'd been out for a few hours at most.

"Yes," Kami answered, trying and failing to hide his amusement, "Mortals really aren't meant to view those sorts of things."

Yamcha was quiet now. He was grateful he lost consciousness when he did. He remembered stories of people stumbling upon cosmic truths or creatures that overloaded their minds and drove them insane, something that was startlingly similar to what he had just gone through.

Taking a moment to clear his mind, Yamcha got back on topic.

"Anyway, I'm guessing your imbalance is due to your split from Piccolo?"

"Indeed," came the reply, "While I embody Yin energy; control, mental and spiritual power. King Piccolo embodies yang; physical power, aggression, and all things combat."

"Interesting, that would explain why he didn't retain your abilities to create the dragon balls."

"Perceptive," Kami complimented with a smile, "but for now, I think I have a measure of your abilities. Shall we begin your true training?"

Yamcha could only smile, he was excited to finally begin laying the groundwork for his future. He bowed deeply "Yes, Kami-sensei"
