Chapter 54 - A Victory After Seven Deaths

That's right, back in the Troll Caves, Lin Tian had actually obtained the Lamp of Cinders, but he had deliberately hidden it.

Otherwise, they would have had to go directly to the Final Castle.

Lin Tian walked alone to the side of the Twilight Forest portal. For this operation, he hadn't brought anyone else. He was afraid someone would tell Shinobu Kocho and make her worry. However, he had also left a backup plan to prevent himself from going insane or something after experiencing death.

To be honest, Lin Tian himself was also a little scared. After all, this time could be said to be extremely dangerous!

Although the system had told him that he could revive infinitely, he had never experienced it himself. Who knew what death felt like? Maybe it was exceptionally painful?

But in the end, Lin Tian still stepped into the Twilight Forest portal. He was still willing to believe the system. After all, it would do the system no good if he really died. And the benefits of killing the leader in the Final Castle were unimaginable!

.....

As soon as Lin Tian entered the Twilight Forest, he teleported directly to the side of the Final Castle. Looking at the thorns spread out before him, he took out the Lamp of Cinders. With a wave of his hand, a sheet of flame flew out, quickly enveloping the surrounding thorns. In a short time, the thorns were burned to a grayish-white.

Lin Tian touched them lightly with his hand, and the thorns turned to ash and dissipated.

The burnt-open thorns were just enough for two people to pass through. Lin Tian didn't continue to burn the others and walked directly into the Final Castle.

Looking at the surrounding white walls and hearing the unknown roars coming from inside the castle, Lin Tian braced himself. He first placed a bed on the spot and then lay down on it.

This was to mark a respawn point. If he died later, he would revive directly here.

Lin Tian stood up, broke the bed, and continued deeper into the castle.

At the entrance was a runic wall. Lin Tian just touched it lightly, and it all crumbled.

The scene inside the castle was not empty as he had seen in his previous life, but filled with piles of unknown, blocky-styled beings of various colors—red, blue, purple. The roars were coming from them.

Seeing these things, Lin Tian had a strange feeling, as if something was missing.

And these unknown beings had obviously also spotted Lin Tian's figure. They all turned their heads to look at him, and then their entire bodies began to open up and down, revealing a core-like thing inside. This core looked very much like an eyeball, but it wasn't human; it was more like a mechanical style.

Seeing these things had discovered him, Lin Tian also raised his shield in defense. But then he discovered that these things moved very slowly. It was a fool's dream for them to even touch him.

Discovering this, Lin Tian also breathed a sigh of relief. If their speed had been fast, he couldn't have guaranteed he wouldn't be swarmed to death. After all, there were already about 50 or 60 of them just in his line of sight!

Lin Tian took out his Netherite axe and swung it at the one closest to him, but the thing didn't move an inch, as if it hadn't taken any damage at all!

Lin Tian frowned and quickly retreated, but he was still hit by one of its blocks. He felt a sharp pain in his chest and spat out a mouthful of blood. But the blood quickly disappeared after flying into the air.

Lin Tian looked at the blocky creature in front of him in horror and complained, "Holy crap! Its damage is so high!"

He then quickly took out an Enchanted Golden Apple and ate it, which made him feel a little better.

Seeing the blocky creature approach again, Lin Tian took out his Netherite pickaxe and swung it at the thing. Magically, the blocky creature lost half its health from this single blow, and a name and a health bar finally appeared above its head.

[Castle Guardian]

[52/103] (Health Bar)

Seeing the name and health bar appear above these creatures' heads, Lin Tian finally knew what that strange feeling was! It was the lack of a name and health bar!

He didn't care why he hadn't seen these things just now, because a group of Castle Guardians had already approached and were vaguely surrounding him.

Holding a pickaxe in each hand, he struck a Castle Guardian to his left front twice. The Castle Guardian turned into white smoke and disappeared.

Immediately after, he struck another Castle Guardian coming from his right rear twice.

He kept swinging his dual pickaxes, taking down one Castle Guardian after another as they rushed up. But in the end, he was outnumbered.

Soon, he was attacked by a Castle Guardian from behind, and the rest was simple.

After being attacked by the Castle Guardian from behind, his body was uncontrollably pushed forward, and then he was attacked by the Castle Guardian in front.

He felt a sharp pain all over his body. Before he could even let out a groan of pain, he was flanked by two Castle Guardians on his sides, and his entire body was directly squeezed and burst...

Lin Tian, is dead!

.......

"Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah!"

Lin Tian's eyes shot open. He was panting heavily, a look of terror on his face as he looked around.

After seeing the surrounding white high walls, he finally truly believed the fact that he could revive infinitely.

Thinking of his experience before he died, he was a little scared, but now that he felt his body was safe and sound, he was a little excited again!

"So this is what death feels like?" Lin Tian only felt the pain of his body being squeezed. As for the feeling of death?

He felt nothing at all! It was as if he had just woken up. The only thing was the information in his mind telling him that he had indeed been squeezed and burst once. Other than that, he felt nothing.

Knowing that he really couldn't die, a slightly savage smile appeared on Lin Tian's face. He held a pickaxe in each hand and charged into the castle.

Swing pickaxe—get killed—revive—swing pickaxe...

He repeated this process over and over again. To get into the castle as quickly as possible, he even set his respawn point at the castle's entrance.

After dying nearly seven times, Lin Tian had finally cleared out all the Castle Guardians inside the castle.

Standing in the empty interior of the castle, he held a pickaxe in each hand, his eyes a little unfocused.

After experiencing death seven times, his mind had started to have some problems. Now, if any living creature appeared in front of him, he might just swing his pickaxe and kill it, even if it were Shinobu and the others...

Just then, he heard someone private messaging him in his mind.

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: Lord Lin Tian! Lord Lin Tian! Lord Lin Tian!]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: Are you alright, Lord Lin Tian?]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: Please eat an Enchanted Golden Apple immediately after hearing my voice!]

Hearing the voice in his mind, he subconsciously swung his dual pickaxes forward. But realizing there were no creatures in front of him, he dazedly took out an Enchanted Golden Apple and ate it.

After the Enchanted Golden Apple went down, he slowly recovered, his eyes refocusing.

He let out a breath. Hearing the voice in his mind, he finally replied.

[Lord of the World: I'm fine. Luckily, you were there to help. Thank you very much.]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: I'm relieved to hear that you are in good condition.]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: But, Lord Lin Tian, why did you ask me to remind you once every thirty minutes? And this is only the first time.]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: I believe that as parties to a transaction, I should have the right to know this. Otherwise, I would rather not have your trade items.]

[Lord of the World: ...]

After a long silence, he still decided to tell Zhongli what he had done. After all, the man valued contracts above all else.

And after hearing his explanation, Zhongli was also silent for a long time.

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: I cannot pass judgment on your actions.]

[Wandering the Mortal Realm: But you should not have hidden it from those around you. They will find out sooner or later, and in the end, it will be their hearts that are hurt.]

After saying this, Zhongli said no more.

Hearing his words, Lin Tian was a little silent. He of course knew that hiding it from the girls was not good, but letting them come along was even worse!

Even he had died seven times just to clear out all the Castle Guardians inside the castle. Even if Shinobu and the others could help him, it wouldn't be of much use, and it might even implicate them!

That was not what he wanted to see, and he also didn't want the girls to see him die.

He took out a few Enchanted Golden Apples and a few buckets of milk and sent them all to Zhongli. This was the payment they had agreed upon.

After composing himself, his gaze turned to the highest point of the castle.

Next up was the final boss of the Final Castle!
