Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Escape Through the Forest

It took Zane an entire morning to get used to this body, which was twenty years younger. He finally accepted the fact that he had transmigrated.

Six hours ago, Zane was just a Programmer who sold hacked/Modified Pokémon.

He had just received a massive order to customize three hundred 6IV perfect Pokémon and was getting ready to pull an all-nighter to mod them. But just as he finished the first one, his vision went black. When he opened his eyes again, he had arrived in this world.

After lying frozen, watching a foot-long green bug crawl over his body, Zane finally confirmed that he had crossed over into the world of Pokémon.

As a Pokémon fan who had been all alone in his original world, being able to travel to a world he loved should have been a happy occasion.

But his current situation didn't leave him any room for excitement.

Damn it! Other people transmigrate into big cities. I get dropped directly into a remote, uninhabited mountain forest!

Just a few minutes ago, he had barely escaped a Caterpie nest, and now he had run straight into a dense thicket inhabited by Beedrill!

Everyone knows that Beedrill are irritable, easily angered, and extremely territorial. If anyone trespasses on their territory, there's a 99.9% chance they'll be attacked.

Zane stared at the Beedrill before him. It had a pair of red eyes, and its two huge, thick, white stingers glinted with a terrifying light in the shadows. He couldn't help but swallow.

If those stingers hit me, my trainer career is going to be over before it even starts, isn't it?

"BUZZZ!"

A strange buzzing sound came from the Beedrill's mouth. Zane could guarantee that was definitely not a friendly greeting.

Sure enough, the next second, the surrounding bushes rustled. Then, pairs of ruby-red eyes began to emerge from the shadows.

Zane turned and ran.

The sound of the Beedrills' wings was right behind him.

A fork in the forest path appeared in his vision. Zane suddenly felt like he was in a game of Temple Run.

"PSCHT!"

A sharp pain stabbed into his waist. Zane's attention was instantly snapped back to reality.

Crap, crap, crap! I got hit by a Beedrill's stinger! Damn it, that hurts!

Is this really how I die?! Zane thought miserably.

But right at that moment, a river suddenly appeared on his left.

Seeing it, Zane was so excited he almost cried tears of joy.

He quickly changed direction and dove straight in.

At this moment, he was incredibly thankful that he had learned to swim before he transmigrated.

River water flooded his ears and nose. Zane held his breath. In his panic, he fumbled and grabbed something hard.

He forced his eyes open and saw, in the middle of the rushing rapids, a creature with a vacant stare and a body covered in red scales.

Holy hell, isn't that the legendary Magikarp?

Having its body grabbed, the Magikarp began to struggle. Dragged by the current, Zane lost his grip.

The next second, he personally experienced the feeling described in that old song lyric: "cold, cold rain slapping wildly against my face."

Zane was getting slapped so hard his eyes were turning red. What was worse, he couldn't even surface.

He could see through the water that the swarm of Beedrill was still hovering above, clearly not intending to let him go easily.

He couldn't stay here.

Zane held his breath and started to swim with the current, letting it carry him forward.

After swimming about thirty feet, he surfaced to gasp for air, then immediately dove back down.

He didn't know how long he had swum. Only after confirming that the damn Beedrill hadn't followed him did Zane finally climb onto the bank.

Looking at the handsome face reflected in the water, even though it was twenty years younger, Zane recognized it at a glance as his ten-year-old self.

Not bad. Already a looker at ten years old.

After all the chaos, his clothes were completely soaked.

Zane had noticed earlier that the leaves in the forest were starting to turn yellow. If he wasn't mistaken, it should be autumn.

He was still wearing the clothes from before he transmigrated: a white t-shirt under a blue athletic jacket, and a pair of gray sweatpants.

After making sure there was no immediate danger, Zane took off his clothes to check the wound where the Beedrill had hit him.

Because his clothes had blocked it, the translucent purple stinger hadn't pierced all the way into his body.

Zane used a leaf to pull the stinger out. He saw that the skin around the puncture wound had already turned a faint purple and was accompanied by a dull, burning pain.

Great. I'm poisoned.

Zane felt hopeless.

When Pokémon are poisoned, their health slowly drains until they faint. So what about humans?

Zane didn't dare to imagine.

A rumbling sound from his stomach only made things worse.

He was hungry.

He had noticed earlier that the trees in this forest had a lot of fruit-like things growing on them. Those must be what this world calls "Berries."

But unlike normal fruit, different Berries had different effects.

For example, the Cheri Berry, which cured paralysis; the Rawst Berry, which healed burns; and the one he needed most right now, the Pecha Berry, which cured poison.

He just didn't know if Berries even worked on humans.

Besides Berries, Zane had also seen a lot of normal fish in the river.

Just as I thought. The Pokémon world has normal animals in addition to Pokémon.

Zane laid his jacket on the ground, preparing to lie down and rest for a bit. The intense chase had used up a lot of his stamina.

He looked up at the clear sky through the mottled canopy.

The most important thing right now is to get out of this forest, find a human town, and find a way to cure this poison.

After all, the forest was huge. It would be hard enough to find a Berry tree, let alone find the specific Pecha Berry he needed.

While he was thinking, Zane suddenly felt something digging into his side.

He sat up, picked up his jacket, and felt a small, purple sphere in the pocket.

He didn't know what he pressed, but the sphere in his hand quickly expanded, returning to its normal size.

When he got a clear look at it, Zane froze.

Purple on top, white on the bottom, with a white button in the center and an "M" logo right above it.

This is... a Master Ball from the games.

How?

He tried pressing the button. With a click, the Master Ball opened, and a white light shot out.

In the white light, a Pokémon with bright orange feathers appeared.

But it wasn't completely orange. The feathers on its chest and around its neck were a distinct white, looking just like a napkin tucked in for dinner.

"GAAAA!"

The Pokémon used a wing to steady its head, then looked over at him with its round, vacant eyes.

Zane stared at it.

It stared at Zane.

The next second, a massive amount of information flooded Zane's mind.

[Species: Cramorant ♂ (Shiny)]

Current Mood: &#?+!#

Physical Condition: Perfect

Friendship: 100 (You are its favorite trainer. It loves you more than it loves itself.)

!!!

Zane was floored.

Isn't this the first Pokémon I just finished modding for that client?

Cramorant. A shiny Cramorant. A Pokémon from the Galar region.

In the games, the description for Cramorant went something like this:

[Although Cramorant is very forgetful, it will never forget a Trainer with whom it has built a bond of trust.

However, if its food is stolen, it will attack mercilessly, even if the opponent is its own Trainer.]

Because it was the first Pokémon he was using as a test, this Cramorant's six stats had been set to an absurd level.

The four moves it knew were also ones Zane had given it as a joke.

Not only had the Cramorant crossed over with him, but the software used to mod it had come along, too.

He could already see the information in his head!
