Chapter 26 - unwanted knowledge, Chapter 26

Still in the Varish capital, The streets were dark as the sky, although only hints of lights were here and there, that did not stop the people from filling them up, crowded it surely was, the young reader that was traveling with the children and the traders walked by, step after another, full of hope his face was as he squeezed through, and heavy his backpack is, he walked until he faced a bakery, on its side a sign, rooms for rent available, his hand went inside his pocket as his flesh smelled the heavy pouch of gold and silver.

"Thanks, old man" he thought to himself walking inside

Drinks, bread and laughs filled the place with satisfied noises, no liquor was around, for even kids played on this ground, eating with their parents, as he walked deeper Inside, he saw a bald man standing behind the display table

"Welcome to my humble store stranger" said the bald man, the only hair he had was of his beard, black of colour it was

The young reader went to the counter as he spoke "seeing how many customers there is, this is no humble bakery"

"Well, it is not me, it's them" said the bald man as he showed him the table full of bread, it was a piece of art, if not for it being a bakery you would think of this a lord's dinner

"This, is beautiful," said the boy

"It is just something I like doing, so? What brought you gentleman here, I see you have weird grey robe, perhaps a foreigner?" said the bald man

"I am an immature reader, I have come here from the market of high halls, heard about this kingdoms culture and wanted to see it for myself, maybe take part in it," said the boy

"Nice, following your dreams I see, there nothing better than a young soul that is unchained to the ground" replied the bald man as he offered his hand to shake the boy's "My name is Brian"

Shaking the baker's hand the young reader replied "Richard, my name is Richard"

"Good to meet you, Richard, well? Do you wish to have a taste?" said Brian

"I would love to get rid of my hunger, but first, may ask of a room's price from a month," said Richard

"You have seen the sign then, we still have empty rooms, that will be one silver" replied Brian

Richard reached into his rob, and without making much noise of his wealth, he pulled out a silver coin

"I guess that will do?" said Richard

Brain took while saying "the first day's meal is on the house," he turned around and called "Marya! We have a guest" a young girl went out of the baking part; she seemed to be in charge of baking around night time

"This young man is renting a room on the second floor; take good care of him for he is not of our grounds," said Brian, turning back to Richard he continued "This is my daughter, she will be escorting you to your room"

Reaching the second floor she handed him a key and said "This is your room; we close the doors after midnight so be sure to be back before so"

"I will be sure to" he said while her face did not have a slight interest, she walked by him and down the stairs

His smile faded, as he felt the treatment was annoying, "Someone is in a bad mood I guess", he thought opening the door in front of him

Walking inside the room had nothing more than a table, its chair, a closet and a bed, but for him that was more than plenty, back in the great market such a good rented room would have costed him golden tears, he put his backpack down, taking his clothes out alongside his books and papers

Each took its place, the streets still full, but not much noise reached him for his bed's window was facing a dark alleyway, he put his head down, handing over his stress to the forgotten parts of his brain

The next day, Marya the daughter of Brain was walking upstairs, in her hands breakfast was ready, as she knocked expecting him to be asleep, he opened the door immediately

Taking the breakfast with hast he closed the door, getting ready he had a grinny smile going from the ear to the ear, he devoured whatever laid upon him as if it was going to be taken away, took the plates downstairs alongside some papers and books, he put the dirty plates on the counter as Brian greeted him

"Good morning, Richard, I see you are in a hurry "

"You know the saying, a bird who wakes up late, misses his meal," said Richard

Looking at the papers and books beside Richard, Brian said "did you read that, somewhere?"

"No, I made it up" said Richard as he left out the saloon doors sprinting

Staring at the wood going in and out Brian spoke to his daughter "So? What do you think"

Looking at him as she inserted some bread beside her father she said "Too energetic, he will find the capital disappointing compared to his fantasies"

"I actually disagree" Brain said as his daughter looked at him "I think we need more of such faces, who knows, with enough of them their might come new and good changes this time"

Walking across the streets, he slammed into many people by accident, although he apologized over and over again, he noticed everyone just walking by not minding it, everyone was in such a hurry

Finaly, he sat foot in the market, a bit deep inside he found an empty spot, spreading his books on the ground, alongside papers painted on them what every section is about,

-The fake history of the Kazar kingdom (Theories)

-What lays beyond the sea (Theories)

-The reality behind the moon and the sun (science Theory)

-The land of the everlasting night (Fantasy book)

Each of these books had multiple copies, time passed, more merchants came, sold, and went away, the sun reached the pinnacle of this blue tent that covers it all, and yet the books sank deeper into the ground, dust was their only guest

People passed, he tried luring them in, calling them with a silver tongue, although his was rusty iron, over and over he called people to take a taste, but nothing changed

Richard sat there, one hand on his cheek, while the other was resting on his leg, he became the pillow of his own body, for boredom's fangs struck deep into his soul

As disappointment continued to shad him from the blazing sun, a woman with a little basket stopped by, inspecting his goods, excitement filled him as he stood up startling her

"Hello my lady, I see you took interest in these little one" he said as she looked at him in confusion and shock, her eyes going from one side of the street to the other, as if seeking someone to tell her wither this man is crazy or norma

Nonetheless, he continued "So are you perhaps seeking some thrilling mystery books? or are you a fan of science?" confusion became obvious to him, but continuing to corner her saying

"For such a beautiful young lady, my guess is that you are a fan of fantasy, a golden armoured prince in an unknown world, or maybe- "she cut him down raising her hand to stop him

"May I speak first" as interest and high exceptions coloured his face he smiled silently" I just wanted to ask, do you have any table paper? I searched the market but they seem to have run out"

Staring into her eyes, or more into her soul, his tired eyes have obvious feelings, he was annoyed, angry, exhausted, as she noticed that fearing he might harm her she said

"I… guess not, I will be going my way then" as she walked in a rush, her eyes keeping watch on him from the side, but no daring to look back.

He sat back down, leg flat on the ground along side its hand, while the other had only its foot there, picking a book and staring at it he asked himself

"What, I am I doing wrong?" the sun slowly creeped into the book, he stared at the sky," I guess it is time to go then" he packed his stuff, took a piece of bread out, and wanted to head back home

As he wanted to take a bite, in the small alley that was in front of his good he saw a little boy inspecting him, clothes torn apart, face dirty, it was obvious he was homeless, he knew the boy craved a piece, so he gave him all of it as that young one rushed back into the dark

"I won't be eating until it falls dark then" he said as he walked off

Entering the bakery Brian saw him, wanting to greet him he noticed his back still as full as it was

"Certainly, it is not filled with riches gained from your work, is it?" said Brian

"You know how it is, everything takes time, no art happens overnight" replied Richerd, as his stomach growled

"Someone haven't had their meal yet?" asked Brian noticing it

"Things happened" said Richard as Brian packed him some pieces of bread

"Will you be needing a table?" asked Brian

"I will be eating it in my room" replied Richard taking his food upstairs

Sitting on his bed and having his little meal, his brain sank in thoughts, "Maybe? I am doing it wrong?" he asked himself

He then stood out of his bed and into the table he had, leaving the bread and books beside each other, took a big piece of paper and started writing down

"Yes, this will definitely work out" he said to himself, his pen screeching as he wrote more and more, with the light of a candle being his companion
