While busy with the phones, I fall asleep at some point. But I don't sleep too long before I'm stirred awake by Colson's arrival.
I watch him pack my bag and the files from the bed and arrange them aside with drowsy eyes.
When he sees me watching quietly from the comfort of my space, he smiles at me. Since the light is dim in the room, I can't clearly see his features but I can note his eyes are tired from the little I can see.
"Welcome back," I manage softly, my voice groggy.
He digs a knee onto the bed and leans over to me. Softly, he places a kiss on my cheek, then rubs my shoulder gently.
"I didn't mean to wake you. Rest more."
I smile warmly at him.
Soon, my love, soon, that wretched whore will be out of our lives for good. And we won't have to face any troubles again.
My lashes slowly flutter open and close repeatedly for moments before I finally give in and drift back to sleep.
