Chapter 32 - Ch 32- External Help- Part 3

Crash

"Fuck—! Who's there—! Come out at once—!"

I yelled at the empty corridor, but no one answered me back.

Of course, no one answered because the sound came from the tree branch hitting my window.

Outside was windy tonight, and dark clouds covered the sky. The atmosphere had turned ominous.

That, when combined with the anxiety of hearing about the recent serial killer details, made me restless.

In the end, I was not able to sleep, and I decided to just wake up at that point.

Grrrr

A pair of eyes flashed in the darkness, and I felt my heart leap into my throat, causing my body to freeze.

The small mass ran toward me before I could gather myself, and before I knew it, a small body collided into me, causing my back to hit my bed.

I waited to be attacked, only to feel soft fur trying to nuzzle under my hand and a soft whine reach my ears.

"Awwoooo."

The puppy I had left in the officer's room to sleep had somehow managed to climb all the way to the third floor.

How the puppy do that? I did not want to know.

I just wanted to make sure the puppy was alright and that I was not hallucinating.

"Fuck—! That hurts. Ugh, alright, I am getting up. Where did I put that candle?"

I questioned as I lit the candle to check up on the puppy.

There was no visible injury I could see, so I decided to take the puppy downstairs and sleep there for the rest of the night.

As soon as my feet touched the ground floor, I heard an urgent knock.

A quick look outside told me that it was the wrong time for someone to be paying me a visit, but I still decided to head toward the door to check.

I looked through the small hole in my door first to see who was outside, but the face that looked back at me was not a familiar one.

Moreover, the person did not look panicked or in an urgent need of help.

So the urgent knocking made me suspicious about his intentions.

"Who is there?"

I asked, not opening my door to the person on the other side. My voice remained neutral as my curiosity rose.

"I-I am someone who's in need of your help. Please, I have been gravely injured and need your help. Can you open the door and let me inside?"

The person asked, and I felt even more certain that this was some kind of scam.

'Tsk, scammers don't stop coming at you, no matter what time period you are in. I bet a lot of people fall for this.'

A lot of people fell for scammers in modern times, and that was when the knowledge of these scams was at an all-time high.

"S-Sir, are you there? C-Can you help me?"

The scammer asked, making his voice sound even more pitiful.

Grrrr

The puppy in my arms decided to let out a growl and loud bark.

I was not even aware that a puppy the size of the one in my arms could sound so loud.

"Hmm, I don't think it's a good idea for me to let you in. It seems that my dog doesn't like strangers."

I told the scammer, and I watched from the peephole as the scammer went pale-faced before quickly making a dash for it.

"Wow—! For someone who claims to be hurt, they sure can run fast. Thanks, pup. You helped me out a lot. Hmm, should I give you a name for now?"

I asked the pup in my arms, and it calmed down after hearing that. It tilted its head to one side and gave me a cute look.

"Let's see. What can be a good name… maybe Fenrir? That's the only fierce, wolf-like name I can think of. What do you think?"

I asked the puppy, and it just barked in happiness. Not that it could understand what I said.

There were a lot of dog names I could recall from my time, but most of them were normal names like Mike or Tom, which I did not want to give to my puppy.

"Ah, it must be because I read that book before heading to bed. It did say that names are important elements that make up a soul. So I guess I settled on Fenrir because it's a strong name. Now you've got to grow up strong as well."

I told the puppy, and it just followed me around with a happy smile on its face.

Now that I had nothing else to do, I decided to head back to my room.

Sleep came easier this time.

"What the hell—! T-That shop had a d-dire wolf guarding it. Tsk, just my luck. I found the one human house I should not head inside."

The vampire clutched its dead heart as it calmed itself down from running.

He had been out for a small walk and a snack break when he saw that bookstore, and something about that store allured him enough to get close.

With his strength, breaking in and entering should not have been difficult, but the bookstore was different as it had a protective layer… not that it was his first time encountering something like that.

The only way for the vampire to enter was to be invited inside by the owner when such a problem arose.

So that's why he decided to pretend to be hurt—to be invited inside.

Who knew that not only would his ploy be seen through, but he would also face one of the biggest threats to any species—a dire wolf.

"Tsk, what a disgrace. But this convinces me that whoever is the owner of that shop is not a normal human. He must be someone special with special blood. And if so… how much power would that blood contain?"

The vampire asked, already salivating at the thought of being able to drink special blood.

Because of what had happened during the last inter-species war, the vampires were forbidden to drink fresh blood or hunt for food.

Those who broke these laws were hunted down.

But the stale blood supply they were given did not taste good, so most vampires like him disregarded the order and went hunting anyway.

"I need to find a way to get past the barrier and get into that shop. Or, I need to lure the shopkeeper outside somehow to drain him dry. I am sure I can do that."

The vampire decided to do that.

But for now, he needed to find another source of food. He had wasted a lot of time.

Luckily for him, there was a barn not too far away from here, and he quickly grabbed one goat from there to drain dry.

To hide the evidence, he tore the body to shreds and masked it as a wild animal attack.

That way, he wouldn't be caught by the officers or even suspected.

"Ah, I cannot wait to taste some real fresh blood soon. I want to drain a human dry… but not now. I need to
