[Ding! You have received 5 faith points]
The notifications kept coming and I had no idea what caused them to come. After all, nothing had changed in my shop from yesterday except…
"Huh-! Is it because the music box is back? Do the people think I somehow managed to persuade Boss Big Bang with my incredible skills? Heh-! What a sudden gain."
The misfortune of losing my music box had suddenly turned into an opportunity for me and I happily accepted the faith points.
Finally, the points stopped when they hit 120 and I returned to my back room to feed the puppy.
It had been a few days since I started feeding the puppy and it had started to grow quite a bit. It had also started to move around and it would not be long before I would be able to let it loose in my shop.
I put the puppy back in its cabinet and headed out once my work was done there.
The ringing bell told me that I had a customer and I hurried toward the counter to attend them.
"What kind of book would you like? Or, are you here for something else?"
I asked the lady who brought her kids in the shop. She looked troubled as her kids kept tugging at her hand to head toward the music box.
"Hey-! Let me go. I want that music box."
"Me too-! I promise I won't break it. I just want to touch it."
The kids were clearly spoiled and the mother looked embarrassed as she kneeled down to their level and tried to talk to them.
"Kids, we cannot do that. The music box is not for sale so you cannot touch it."
The mother explained but she looked exhausted as she kneeled in front of the kids. But they seemed determined to cause trouble.
"Tsk, you are a bitch. I am going to complain about you to our mom."
"Mom said that you really need this job as a nanny and that's why you will tolerate anything. What will happen to you if we complain about you to her?"
The kids threatened their nanny whom I had mistaken as their mother and even I felt embarrassed to see their behaviour.
"Y-You master, please stop. You know you cannot-! Ah young miss, don't do that-"
The kids bit the nanny's arm to make her let go, but the nanny did not let go. She must have endured this a lot of times in the past.
Looking at these spoiled kids reminded me of the rich kids in modern times who thought they could do anything as long as they flaunted their money.
And most of the time, it worked as well.
"S-Shopkeeper, I am sorry. But I need to leave and take my young masters with me. I will come back for my order soon-"
"HEY-! LET GO OF ME. OR ELSE-"
The young master yelled and the door opened. This time, a beautiful lady entered and she looked like an older and more mature kind of beauty. But her face was exactly the same as the young master.
She even had the mole over her lips that the young kid had.
"M-Mommy-! Help me. Our nanny won't let us touch the music box."
"Yeah-! Mommy, she's so mean."
The two kids finally broke free from the nanny and ran toward their mother who looked startled. But then she got angry.
"Nanny, is that true that you won't allow these kids to do what they want? Do you have a death wish?"
The female asked in an angry voice and the nanny shrank in size.
"I…it is not for sale and we can get in trouble if we touch it…and I-"
The nanny started to speak but the beautiful woman refused to hear her out. She raised her hand and the sound of a loud slap echoed through the room.
"Tsk, know your place, you bitch. How dare you say no to my kids for something this basic. Hey you, shopkeeper, sell the music box to me. I am giving you a privilege to do this, so you better not say no."
The lady seemed confident in herself and I felt angry now.
"I am sorry but it's not for sale. Please leave my shop if you're going to be like this."
I told the lady and she did not take rejection well. She made me her next target as she stalked over to me.
Now, I had to decide what to do. Do I stop the lady from slapping me or should I allow her to take her anger out on me?
I wanted to stop her, but I was also afraid to anger her since she looked like a noble.
'Should I call the officer for help? But would he be able to help me in this case? I am up against a noble after all-'
In this case, there was only one option left to me- to take the hit for the sake of my future. I braced myself, but the slap never came.
Instead, I heard the familiar sound of the door being opened before a loud gasp filled the air.
"Lady Izana Bellford…was it? Do you have a problem with my benefactor?"
Duchess Isabella Lilly stood right behind Izana Bellford and her towering height made her feel even more intimidating than before.
Her voice was cold and it made the noble lady in front of me flinch.
"W-Who-! Oh my! D-Duchess…what brings you here? D-Did you say b-benefactor? I did not know…I thought he was…?"
The rude noble looked speechless all of a sudden and her tongue felt tied. She wanted to speak, but words wouldn't come out of her mouth.
"Hmm, and were you going to be rude if he was not my benefactor? Do you think you have the right?"
The duchess asked and the noble lady flinched even more.
The young master who saw his mother cower immediately came to her rescue as he tried to look at the duchess. But her aura made him look down as well.
"B-But it is the shopkeeper's fault. He keeps denying nobles like us the right to touch and buy the music box. It's a grave offense and he needs to be-"
"Tsk, kids these days are so rude because their parents don't teach them better. Lady Izana, are you going to say something?"
The duchess expressed her displeasure and the rude noble folded like wet paper.
"I-I apologize Duchess. It is all our fault. K-Kids, let's leave now. This place is a little too out of budget for us at the moment. Let's go. And you Nanny-? You are fired. There is no need to come back to work."
With that, Lady Izana left with her former-employee looking at her back with a scared expression.
No one knew what to say and I suddenly felt bad for the lady who just lost her job over nothing.
After all, something similar had happened to me as well.
"Looks like I came at the wrong time, Mr. Shopkeeper. And I apologize for handling things as I wanted. I should have waited for your signal first."
The older lady told me and I sighed. The day was turning out to be weirder and weirder by the second.
