Avengers Base
Eller brought Wanda to the underground Avengers Base, where Black Widow was already waiting for them with the case files.
Black Widow noticed Wanda accompanying Eller; she remembered this beautiful woman who had once fought alongside her.
"It seems your relationship has grown closer," Black Widow said with a smile, teasing Eller and Wanda about their relationship.
Upon hearing this, Eller's expression remained calm; he simply reached out for the files. "What happened to the Second Squad that caused them to lose contact for several hours?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers currently have no definitive information," Black Widow shook her head, then handed a paper file to Eller.
The file stated that an extremist group called 'Dark Truth' had colluded with a band of mercenaries, planning to cause widespread destruction randomly in America's cities to propagate their 'Dark God'.
The number of such groups in America was not small, but those extreme to this extent were quite rare.
"Are the missing Avengers alright?" Wanda's heart skipped a beat when she saw the extremist actions mentioned in the file; she worried Pietro might be taken for human sacrifice.
Black Widow said helplessly, "We currently have no information on them. Satellites focused on scanning their disappearance area and finally found some strange anomalies."
As she spoke, Black Widow pointed her hand into the air, and two different holographic topographical maps appeared. She then continued to explain:
"These two topographical maps are from the same location at different times. I suspect someone used supernatural powers, otherwise the terrain wouldn't change in such a short period."
"Interesting. A You-Know-Who with power comparable to Scorpio, able to trap Quicksilver, and evade Nightcrawler's perception," Eller synthesized the clues.
As the clues pieced together, Eller envisioned a powerful magic-user or psychic ability user in his mind, who had toyed with the Second Squad from the shadows and then captured them.
Seeing this, Wanda proactively said, "Can you take us to the scene? If it's magic, I can be of use."
Upon hearing this, Black Widow looked at Eller for confirmation. Only after he nodded in agreement did Black Widow say:
"The Quinjet is already waiting on the tarmac. Hawkeye will take us to where the Second Squad disappeared."
On the way to the tarmac, Eller casually asked, "By the way, where are the others?"
"Banner is on vacation, Thor went home, Stark is doing research, Captain America is telling the World he's not dead, that's about it," Black Widow said helplessly:
"I originally thought that recruiting a second batch of people would allow me to live a Commander's life, but I still have to clean up their messes."
This was the helplessness of a worker, thinking that bringing in new people would reduce pressure, only for the new people to become the source of pressure. Even the Avengers were no exception.
"Let's go save the Second Squad first. At worst, we can ask Nick for more activity funds afterward," Eller casually comforted her.
As they spoke, the three had already arrived at the tarmac, where the pilot Hawkeye had been waiting for a long time.
As the three boarded the plane, Hawkeye noticed that Eller and Black Widow had brought an extra person, so he asked them:
"So we have backup?"
"She's a super-powered family member of the Second Squad and will be helpful to us, Clint," Black Widow simply explained.
"Alright, I understand."
Upon hearing that the other person also had superpowers, Hawkeye had no further questions. He then started the Quinjet and flew towards the area where the Second Squad disappeared.
Some time later, the Quinjet, switched to stealth mode, stopped a kilometer away from the incident site. Since the incident site was in a deep forest, the four had to proceed on foot.
After Captain America was recovered, S.H.I.E.L.D. created some physical enhancement serums based on data collected from his life and some unknown sources.
Although these serums did not provide as significant an enhancement as the Super Soldier Serum, they were relatively inexpensive to produce. With long-term use, combat-oriented Agents like Hawkeye and Black Widow, who fought on the front lines, could barely keep up with superhuman pace.
The entire World was pursuing the mastery of more superhumans, as if whoever had more superhumans would hold the most influence.
S.H.I.E.L.D. was no exception; they possessed vast resources, and once the technology matured, they could mass-produce various black technologies and enhancement serums.
A kilometer's distance was not long in the eyes of the four. Walking steadily, they arrived in just a few minutes.
Black Widow crouched down and examined the soil. "There's blood in the dirt. A battle took place here."
"There are also traces of a humanoid moving at high speed. It seems they were here," Hawkeye surveyed the surroundings, finding many battle marks.
Although all living facilities had been removed, the various traces left behind told the two Agents that something must have happened here.
At this moment, Eller frowned and asked Wanda, "Do you feel that nauseating aura?"
"The smell of dark magic. Let me see who wants to harm my family."
Wanda also looked displeased. She spread the five fingers of her right hand, and Chaos Magic danced at her fingertips, finally transforming into threads that flew in all directions.
The number of threads grew, and Black Widow and Hawkeye also noticed these red threads. Eller, seeing this, told them:
"It's alright, this is just some rudimentary magic."
"magic?" Hawkeye's eyes lit up. "So she studied at Hogwarts?"
Upon hearing this, Eller chuckled softly, "She's self-taught."
At this point, Wanda had also finished reading the memories of this land. The next moment, human figures made of red threads formed in the mountain forest one by one.
Starting with Quicksilver's surprise attack, then Scorpio's strong assault, and finally Nightcrawler's cleanup.
This mission could have ended easily, until a You-Know-Who intervened. He effortlessly altered the terrain to trap Nightcrawler, then used magic to defeat Scorpio, and finally used magic to make Quicksilver feel intense pain, thus preventing him from maintaining superspeed movement.
"Indeed, it's an evil magic-user who uses dark magic," Wanda's face was cold. Her last blood relative's fate was still unknown; no one would feel good about that.
Seeing this, Eller also said, "But we have a target now. As long as we compare the facial contours with information, we can find him."
"You're right."
As the four searched for traces of the dark magic-user, a baffling defection was occurring at the magical sanctuary Kamar-Taj.
The leader's gaze was arrogant. Behind him followed several like-minded magic-users. The group headed straight for the restricted section. Their goal was clear: the leader took a book from the highest shelf and hastily left after tearing out a few pages from it.
Those pages contained the darkest and most dangerous spells, and the name of the leader was Kaecilius, once one of Sorcerer Ancient One's most proud students.
