Chapter 136 - Chapter 135: Gotham's Dream

After Morpheus and Dane finalized their agreement, they immediately took action.

To be honest, no one present understood their transaction except Diana; they were all completely bewildered.

But that didn't prevent them from understanding that Dane had found a solution.

Morpheus didn't waste words and directly used his divine power.

Gotham.

This place was indeed a well-deserved geomantic treasure land. Destiny's first stop after returning from the Dream World to reality was this city of sin.

"This is truly a good place!"

Destiny was very satisfied. He planned to set up a large magic array in this place, allowing him to expand the power of the dream stone from a single point to the entire World.

However, before he could even make a move, the ruby embedded in his chest suddenly emitted a red light, a phenomenon that stunned him on the spot.

He hadn't activated the power of the dream stone?

However, he immediately realized that someone had tampered with the dream stone beforehand, and that person could only be the Dream Lord.

Before Destiny could take any remedial measures, the Justice League suddenly appeared.

First to emerge from the teleportation light was Dane, lightning transforming into a White light and shooting out from his hand.

Destiny shivered, instantly using the power of the dream stone and his magic to construct an unbreakable shield.

The dream stone had the power to turn dreams into reality, and Destiny had even modified the dream stone to make it more conducive to his dark magic.

Seeing that the red shield was completely unharmed, Dane couldn't help but glance at Morpheus standing behind him.

"You mean when you created the dream stone, you didn't consider making it an artifact that couldn't be modified or could only be used by you?"

But Morpheus said very righteously:

"First, I didn't think I needed it at the time. Second, I set it up as a gem that could be easily destroyed precisely so that it wouldn't be exploited by others at a critical moment."

"Honestly, you just need to shatter it!"

Go to hell, old geezer!

Do you think I don't know that after the dream stone shatters, the power within it will return to you?

He ignored him and turned to all the Justice League members, saying: "Everyone, pay attention! Remember not to attack the dream stone!"

As the Justice League, whose members were all recruited by Dane, they naturally chose to obey Dane's instructions. They focused their attacks on Destiny himself.

Morpheus frowned, feeling a bit strange. How did this human know the secret of the dream stone?

Such a thing, apart from himself, no one should have known.

Surrounded by the Justice League, Destiny knew he was outnumbered and tried to use the power of "dream" to confuse the heroes' perceptions.

But his attempt was seen through by Dane. The dream stone was the most powerful of the three artifacts; neither the dream sand nor the helmet was enough to nullify its effects.

But he could fight fire with fire!

Destiny wanted to confuse all the heroes' perceptions, so he simply expanded that power.

So he spread all the dream sand, enveloping everyone on the battlefield, designing a dream large enough to contain everyone.

Morpheus looked at him in surprise, unable to help but exclaim: "You are indeed very talented. If you can truly become the new Dream God, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad thing."

Dane said without looking back:

"Anyway, it won't be worse than you. Imprisoned by a group of humans for seventy years, if I were you, I would have been so ashamed that I'd smash my head against a brick and die!"

Morpheus's face darkened upon hearing this, and he immediately corrected himself: "I was wrong. A guy like you truly doesn't deserve the power of dreams!"

Dane scoffed. Do I need your admit? I just take it directly, okay!

The dream sand and the dream stone took effect simultaneously. Although both were constructing dreams, they were in two completely different directions.

Homologous powers clashed, making the boundary between reality and dream ambiguous.

The World suddenly changed color, as if a realistic oil painting had turned into an ink wash painting, with different colors.

Gotham changed, yet it also seemed unchanged.

The Bat-Family, who were dealing with Penguin, Two-Face, and a host of other criminals, quickly noticed the changes in the city.

Then Penguin and the others also began to realize that something was wrong with the city.

The entire city seemed to have suddenly quieted down. This was not a physical or realistic quietness, but a strange feeling originating from within.

Batman immediately thought of the hallucination incident from a few days ago. He guessed that the Justice League members might be taking action.

So he immediately pressed the communicator, but the device was unresponsive.

Nightwing and Red Hood, who were with him, immediately pulled out their phones.

"No signal!" Nightwing said.

Red Hood nodded: "Me neither."

After speaking, he took out his teleporter, intending to use the power of magic to teleport near the Justice League, but Batman stopped him.

"We still don't know what's going on. What if the teleporter also malfunctions..."

He didn't say it explicitly, but Red Hood understood that a teleportation malfunction could lead to unknown consequences.

What if it split a person in half?

At this moment, they heard a huge roar from a distance, which was extremely conspicuous in the now silent Gotham City.

Batman made a decisive decision: "We're going there!"

Red Hood and Nightwing both did not object. Compared to this matter, the gangsters in front of them were merely insignificant trifles.

So they immediately abandoned Penguin and other villains, got into the Batmobile, and drove towards the distance.

Seeing this, Two-Face looked as if he had suffered a great humiliation.

"How could they do this! They just abandoned us!"

Harvey's normal face mocked him: "That's because you're not important at all, Two-Face. You're just small-time thugs."

"Shut up! Harvey!" Two-Face roared, then immediately started arguing with himself.

Penguin's expression was serious. His understanding of this city was no less than Batman's. In the dark crevices, he even knew more than Batman!

So he knew that Gotham must have undergone some changes they were unaware of. Connecting it with the recent string of events in Gotham, he had a vague bad premonition.

"Go! We'll go take a look too!"

Meanwhile, in other parts of the city, contrary to the quiet environment, some dark unrest was brewing in people's hearts.

Especially now that Gotham had completely lost external signals, more people began to feel uneasy.

Some tried to drive out of the city, but crossing the bridge, the other side was still Gotham.

Some tried to leave by plane, but the plane couldn't find any navigation routes other than Gotham in the air.

Others tried to leave by ferry, but once they went out to sea, they never returned.

Everyone started to panic, to fear.

But at the same time, they also found that their sense of time had become somewhat blurred.

Although there was still a Sun in the sky, some people distinctly felt that many days had passed, yet they felt no hunger.

Some suspected that all of this was a dream.

And those whose wills were not strong began to develop dark thoughts under the subtle influence of the dream, and some things that had been destroyed in the past resurfaced.

For example, the Doomsday Cult began to preach their nonsensical but very appealing doctrines to the crowds again.

"Brothers! Sisters! This is a trial from God!"

A guy dressed like a charlatan stood on the podium, spouting nonsense.

"Judgment Day has arrived, and now is the time for us to show our loyalty to the Lord. Have no fear, my friends, in this City of God, we are immortal!"

And so, the riot began. When those who launched the "holy war" discovered they truly couldn't die, their enthusiasm for the matter soared to an unbelievable degree.

But in this dream city, everyone was immortal, so soon enough, people began to resist.

The city, which had been quiet a second ago, suddenly became restless, and a wave swept across the entire Gotham City.

In one corner of the city, the Birds of Prey gathered.

"Something is definitely wrong with this city."

Barbara looked at the city in confusion. Her intuition told her this city wasn't like this, but she couldn't remember what the city truly looked like.

However, Harley's words were shocking: "This is a dream, sweetie!"

"Don't call me that!" Batgirl first reprimanded her, then asked in confusion, "A dream?"

"Yes, it's someone's dream." Harley had a lot to say when it came to dreaming.

Poison Ivy completely trusted her, while Batgirl was half-skeptical. She had even seen gods, so she wouldn't completely deny Harley's words.

"If what you're saying is true, then it means as long as we find the person dreaming and wake him up, this problem can be solved, right?" Huntress asked.

"By the way, do you all trust her that much?" Black Canary wasn't very convinced by Harley's statement, as Harley always seemed a bit crazy.

"It wouldn't hurt to try. At least it's a direction, so we're not completely clueless." Barbara made the final decision.

"Let's go, we'll find out who caused this incident, defeat him, and then restore everything to normal!"

After Barbara finished speaking, the Birds of Prey sprang into action... In the main battle zone, Dane looked at the completely transformed Gotham and suddenly realized, the City Spirit, this is Gotham's dream!
