Chapter 2 - New bird in the cage

"I don't think you can handle this case, Mr. Vishal Veer Khanna" the DIG's voice thundered across the cabin, echoing off the wooden walls. His tone was sharp, laced with authority and impatience.

"Why so?" Vishal asked calmly, standing tall with his hands folded behind his back. His face was unreadable- not a flicker of emotion betrayed his composure.

"You nearly killed that boy!" Arwant the DIG snapped, slamming a file on the desk.

"And because of that boy, we lost him again!" Vishal shot back, his jaw tightening. The faint hum of the ceiling fan filled the tense silence that followed.

"I don't care. I've made up my mind- I'm giving this case to Kaykay" Arwant declared firmly.

A low chuckle escaped Vishal's lips, breaking the heavy air.

"What's so funny?" Arwant frowned, narrowing his eyes.

"You think I've got attitude?" Vishal asked, struggling to suppress his grin.

"Yes, you do" Arwant replied curtly.

"And you hired Kaykay to solve this?" Vishal raised an eyebrow, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

"What's your problem, Mr. Khanna?" Arwant demanded, his patience thinning.

"Nothing. Good decision, by the way" Vishal said with a faint smirk, rubbing his forehead as if amused by an inside joke.

Arwant's brows furrowed. "Hm? What's the joke you're laughing at?"

Vishal met his gaze, eyes gleaming with quiet defiance. "Well, if you weren't new here, you'd have known"

With that, he gave a crisp salute, turned on his heel, and walked out of the cabin- the sound of his boots fading down the corridor, leaving behind a mix of confusion and intrigue.

Vishal walked out of the building and into the parking lot. The afternoon sun burned hot, painting long shadows across the rows of vehicles. He stopped beside his White Jeep, exhaling sharply as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his sunglasses. Just as he was about to open the door, the screech of tires broke the silence- a sleek black Scorpio came to a sudden halt right in front of him.

The man stepped out of the black Scorpio, his presence effortlessly commanding attention. He had a sharp, sculpted jawline that caught the faint glow of the parking lights, and his shoulders were broad- the kind that made his casual stance look naturally confident. He wore a light beige hoodie layered under a tan brown jacket, the fabric slightly creased from the drive, giving him a lived-in but stylish vibe. The loose, light blue jeans hung perfectly on him.. comfortable yet effortlessly cool and his white sneakers were scuffed just enough to show he didn't try too hard.

His hands were tucked casually into his pockets, posture relaxed, eyes scanning Vishal with that mix of cockiness and charm that only someone naturally self-assured could pull off.

The man walked up to Vishal, stopping just a few inches away. "Congratulations, Mr. Khanna" he said, voice smooth and taunting. "I got the case you've been working on for half a month."

Vishal slid his sunglasses on, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "Agh, I know… Mr. Kunal, nepo baby can easily get whatever case they want."

"Nepo baby?" The man, Kunal- laughed mockingly, his amusement quickly fading as his expression hardened. "You better wash your tongue after you eat, 'cause it still got some shit left right there" he snapped, eyes narrowing.

Vishal's hand twitched near his belt. "If the Kavir Vohra wasn't your dad, I would've-" He stopped himself, his tone sharp but controlled.

"Would've what?" Kunal stepped closer, his voice rising. The parking lot suddenly went quiet, only the faint hum of engines in the distance.

"And first of all" Kunal continued, pointing at himself, "Why you become such a fan of Vohra? he's not my father. I don't even use his surname!" His tone dripped with pride and defiance. "So you better go do your homework about me- after all, I'm gonna be the GK question your future kids will study about"

Vishal chuckled softly, raising his palms in mock surrender. "Whatever… let's not fight like enemies. How about we hug it out like best friends?" His expression softened instantly, playfully exaggerated.

Kunal smirked, lowering his sunglasses. "Yeah, sure."

The two men stepped forward and hugged- a brief, strong embrace that carried both rivalry and brotherhood.

"I missed you, man" Vishal said, his voice low but genuine.

"Me too, brother" Kunal replied, patting his back firmly- a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
