Chapter 163 - Special Training

Early in the morning, Gu Yuan got up early to boil porridge and prepare breakfast.

Compared to Gu Yuan, Professor Oak undoubtedly woke up even earlier, but it was to prepare food for the Pokémon in the courtyard. Of course, after Gu Yuan began staying here, Oak also prepared a portion for Charizard and its companions. Food personally formulated by Professor Oak was naturally trustworthy.

Once Professor Oak finished preparing the Pokémon food, Gu Yuan also finished breakfast. Gary woke up and began to wash and groom himself at this time.

"Good morning, Older Brother Gu Yuan," Gary said politely upon entering the dining area, patiently waiting for his breakfast.

Although Gary had not yet gone through the baptism of the future to become composed, as long as Ash, his rival, was not around, he was very well-mannered; after all, his grandfather was Professor Oak.

"Alright, let's eat first. Professor Oak is probably going to be busy for a while." "Okay!"

Responding happily, Gary began to enjoy his breakfast. He increasingly felt that his Grandpa's decision to mentor Gu Yuan was absolutely correct! Before Gu Yuan arrived, he could only wake up early every day and try to boil a few eggs for himself, or go scrounge a meal at Aunt Delia's place, bringing a portion back for his Grandpa. Now, he could finally enjoy breakfast at his own home.

"I caused you trouble again, Gu Yuan." Walking into the dining area, Professor Oak smiled and greeted Gu Yuan, then began to enjoy his lunch.

"You're too kind. If anything, I should be thanking you for your guidance these past few days." Gu Yuan shook his head, and he spoke these words with genuine sincerity.

Since he started receiving Professor Oak's mentorship, he could clearly feel himself becoming like a dry sponge, constantly absorbing knowledge to enrich himself.

Perhaps having learned about Gu Yuan's situation from Agatha, Oak was easily able to teach various subjects in a way that Gu Yuan could understand.

The things Gu Yuan had learned previously were gradually linked together under Professor Oak's instruction, forming a knowledge network in his mind, which continued to expand with the Professor's help.

In terms of battle command, Professor Oak also displayed astonishing teaching ability. Although he now focused most of his energy on research, it still couldn't be denied that he had once been powerful and possessed accumulated battle experience.

For Gu Yuan, this was exactly what he needed most. Regardless of his current battle skill, the restriction of his age indirectly affected his knowledge and combat experience, and this gap was gradually being filled under Professor Oak's guidance.

Besides this, Charizard and the others also felt they had reached paradise. Inside Professor Oak's research lab, there was no shortage of all kinds of Pokémon, which allowed Charizard and its friends to battle different Pokémon every day.

Any flaws or problems exposed during battles were immediately pointed out by Professor Oak, who provided corresponding suggestions for improvement.

At this moment, Gu Yuan had decided to use this place as his special training location. He only needed to go to Viridian City in the last few days to obtain the final Earth Badge.

"Actually, I haven't taught you much. It's all because you are exceptional, Gu Yuan."

"Not at all, Professor. You overestimate me."

"Oh, don't be modest. For example, about the problem we discussed earlier, you gave me great inspiration." Watching the two start discussing again, Gary, even though he had finished his breakfast, didn't rush to leave. Instead, he sat nearby, quietly listening.

Gary only left once Gu Yuan and Professor Oak gradually stopped talking. Looking at Gary's retreating figure, Gu Yuan thought that Gary's future decision to become a researcher must have been influenced by his grandfather.

"Let's go. It's time to start today's learning."

"Okay."

Gu Yuan got up and left with Professor Oak to begin his studies. Although he called it learning, Professor Oak actually assigned Gu Yuan several tasks every day, letting Gu Yuan think and delve into them independently, only answering questions when Gu Yuan encountered something he didn't understand.

Compared to general teaching methods, Professor Oak felt that this approach would make the learning more memorable for Gu Yuan. Coupled with Gu Yuan's extraordinary memory and existing knowledge foundation, Gu Yuan adapted to this method extremely quickly.

After the questions were answered, Professor Oak would let Gu Yuan act freely for the rest of the day. During this period, whether Gu Yuan wanted to study on his own, follow the Professor to conduct experiments, or go to battle, Professor Oak never said much against it.

Gu Yuan's choice, however, was to stick with Professor Oak. Although he didn't know much about the experiments, Professor Oak required the assistance of many Pokémon during his research.

Naturally, given Oak's character, he would never mutilate Pokémon. The so-called assistance was merely observing their body information and subtle changes to discover certain phenomena and verify his hypotheses.

During this process, Gu Yuan was able to see many rare Pokémon and learn from Professor Oak about their habits, Abilities, battle styles, and weaknesses.

For Gu Yuan, this was all invaluable knowledge. After all, even with the system, knowing more about the battle styles and shortcomings of various Pokémon could still be extremely useful in combat.

"Alright, that's enough work for this morning." "This afternoon will be the battles you and your Pokémon enjoy the most, so I've arranged these opponents for you today."

"The same as usual: you can use the lunch break to find out their information and set up tactics for your Pokémon. In the afternoon, they will battle freely."

"Yes, sir!" Looking at the list Professor Oak handed him, Gu Yuan seriously committed the Pokémon names on it to memory.

Compared to general battle methods, Professor Oak's mentorship was clearly different; the focus of the training was on the Pokémon's ability to battle independently.

When a Pokémon gets used to battling only according to its Trainer's instructions, its strength is greatly reduced once the Trainer's command is gone. Therefore, upon learning that Gu Yuan's coordination with Charizard and the others was already excellent, Oak shifted the focus of the mentorship to having Charizard and its companions battle alone.

Gu Yuan had already been paying attention to this point, often letting his Pokémon battle on their own when they had free time. However, with Professor Oak's guidance, this training method became more systematic.

The effect was very obvious. Now, Charizard and the others could still exert their full strength even without Gu Yuan's command. The only difference was that without Gu Yuan, they lacked the extra energy to monitor the entire battlefield, which is the Trainer's greatest function.

That afternoon, just as the battles were about to begin, two small spectators arrived: Gary and Ash.
