Chapter 44 - Bloody Night

"Very good, thank you for your help. I wish you success."

After getting the information he wanted, Bob smiled and left. He carried the last list back to the police station.

When he entered, the others had already returned.

Soon, Bob joined the task of checking the new leads.

The technology in the Pokémon world was advanced, but tracking a person's details was not easy.

Trainers often went to wild areas filled with Pokémon. Danger could happen anytime.

If a fallen trainer's information was found and given to the League, it was fine. But if it was misused, even the League would have a hard time finding the truth.

There were disguises, and there were Pokémon like Ditto that could copy any appearance.

So Bob and the others worked until nightfall.

Luckily, their effort paid off. They found several people with unclear identities.

"Alright, let's stop here today. Tomorrow we can check their details again."

Stretching his shoulders, Bob suggested with a tired face.

"What if, I mean what if, Jenny finds out we had a chance to catch that guy and let him slip?"

Ross asked with a grin from his desk.

Bob saw the others looking at him and understood.

"Fine, fine, I get it. Let's push through and focus on the target."

"I'll go with Ross and follow up on the leads."

He decided and dragged Ross in with him.

"I knew it. You're still holding a grudge."

"No choice. Your smile is too noticeable."

"Oh, that sounds gross."

"Good, then I'm at ease."

Ross stood up and left with Bob.

"Be careful. That fugitive is strong. Even if you find clues, don't rush in."

"Relax, we know."

The others watched them leave, noisy like kids. The police station felt like it had more than one Jenny.

"Do you think that fugitive really came to Lakeside Town?"

On the road, Bob asked Ross.

"Who knows? Let's see if luck is on our side."

"If we really catch him, Jenny might finally reach her goal."

"True. Let's give it a try."

Bob cheered himself up. After such a tiring day, he needed to keep himself motivated.

Suddenly, a shadow flashed past.

As police officers, Bob and Ross reacted at once, pulling out their Poké Balls.

Two white lights flashed, and their Pokémon appeared, but they were still a step too late.

Blood splattered. Bob and Ross collapsed, powerless.

Scyther appeared and immediately clashed with their Pokémon.

With its Senior Rank strength, Scyther easily pushed them back. Then the attacker released another Pokémon. Bob and Ross's partners could not hold on.

"Tsk, why do you people bother? Staying in the station watching that fool patrol would keep you alive longer. Instead, you chose death."

The attacker walked over and took all their Poké Balls.

Bob coughed up blood but still glared at his face. He regretted taking this shortcut. Otherwise, the man would not have struck so easily.

But regret was useless. He could only watch the man leave, waiting for his life to fade away.

The attacker recalled his Pokémon and headed straight for the station.

From the training room, Kadabra told Gu Yuan that Mason had not returned.

"Let's go outside too. Maybe we'll gain something."

Gu Yuan thought of the wanted poster and grew interested.

He recalled Charmeleon and Mankey, keeping Eevee in his arms. Kadabra followed at his side.

"Hello, may I help you?"

Officer Oka recognized the newcomer at once. He had just seen his information, so he grew cautious.

"Don't be nervous, officer. I only came to bring bad news. Officers Bob and Ross are dead, and soon you will be too!"

He showed their IDs and laughed madly.

Two figures rushed from behind him.

Scyther struck first, cutting off Oka's head.

Persian bit into another officer's throat.

Blood sprayed everywhere. The attacker grew more frenzied, but he still calmly shut the station doors.

"Damn it, he's here. Looks like they found a clue. That means his next target must be the police station!"

Seeing Bob and Ross's bodies, Mason could not hide his rage and fear. He ran toward the station at once.

"Hello, I think you may need my help."

He stopped in his tracks after hearing a stranger's voice.

Under the moonlight, Gu Yuan appeared in front of him. Mason had seen him earlier at the Pokémon Center.

"Who are you!?"

He released her Pokémon at once.

"This is my Pokédex. It proves my identity. I think my Kadabra can help us reach the station faster. Maybe we'll still be on time."

Gu Yuan tossed him his Pokédex and showed a worried look.

"I understand. Please hurry."

Officer Mason confirmed his identity. There was no time to apologize. His only concern was saving the others.

"No problem. Kadabra, use Teleport!"

A flash of psychic light, and both of them vanished.

"What's going on? It's not closing time yet. Why did they leave already?"

Officer Jenny frowned at the shut doors. Her Growlithe sniffed the air, catching a strange scent.

Inside, a man glared at the door. His soft, twisted face was filled with killing intent.
