Chapter 8— Lilith POV
"We've met before. I remember your face," he said. "Five years ago, at a music concert."
I blinked, cracking my brain for recognition. "I've been to countless music concerts. I must be really famous."
"At this particular music concert, you pretended to be the singer. You enchanted the crowd with your attractive voice, and afterwards, you and your sister slaughtered hundreds of werewolves," he explained. "This happened a few years ago."
I smirked as realization kicked in. "Took me long enough for recognition to click."
Maverick stared at us with furrowed brows.
"You were the Lycan that fought with me. I would have killed you."
"I don't think I've seen any hunter as powerful as you," he said with a warm smile. "I was captivated."
"My pleasure." I took a seat, noticing how Maverick's eyes hardened as he looked between the both of us. I ignored him, taking a spoonful of the food inside my mouth.
"What are you doing here with my brother?"
"Your brother?" I asked.
"No. Not like blood brothers, but we've been with each other for many years."
"Ah, I see." I nodded. "Well, the reason your brother caged me here is because of the bond."
Cain frowned. "What bond?"
"Seriously? Maverick didn't inform you about it?" I asked.
Cain shook his head.
"We're mates. Recently found out during the full moon."
"What?" Cain's eyes widened. "Mates? How come? I thought hunters never have mates. And why would a Lycan be mated to one, of all people?"
I started to speak when Maverick cleared his throat, reminding us of his presence. I leaned back, holding whatever I had to say.
"Is she aware of the bond?" This question was directed to Maverick.
"Who?"
"Davina. Does she know you've found your mate after waiting for centuries?"
"No." Both of us answered at once. I turned to Maverick, shooting him a glare as I dug my fork into the slice of meat.
"How do you know about Davina?" Maverick asked. "The last time any of us saw each other was ten years ago, and I hadn't met Davina then."
Cain smirked, leaning back. "Well, during the time we had a misunderstanding and separated, I kept an eye on you. You're also the King of Malraux. Of course, news about King Maverick with his new girlfriend would spread like wildfire."
Maverick took a sip from the wine in his glass.
"Care to explain why you haven't told Davina about the bond yet?" Cain angled his head.
"I can't," was all Maverick said. His gaze was pinned on the untouched food on his plate.
"Why?"
"I do not want her to be worried," he said.
"Worried?" Cain scoffed, shaking his head.
"That I am mated to a hunter whom I cannot kill because of the curse. She would be extremely worried."
"It doesn't matter if she is worried or not. Davina is your girlfriend, and she deserves to know that you already found your mate."
Maverick sighed.
"Does she know that Lilith is here?" Cain asked.
"No." Maverick shook his head. "I told her Lilith would be locked in prison for hunters, where I would extract information from her."
Cain chuckled dryly. "I don't seem to understand you, Maverick. You have a girlfriend, and not only did you not tell her about the bond, but you also brought your mate here. Do you plan to have them both?"
"Ew." I frowned, giving Cain a look of disgust.
"What the fuck? No. Never." His eyes hardened.
Cain laughed. "What is so wrong with the both of you?"
"Why would you ever think I'd mate with a hunter?" Maverick asked.
"Good question." I folded my arms. "Why would you think I'd mate with a Lycan?"
"I've fucked countless hunters in the past. It's not a big deal," Cain smiled. "Fucked before killing them, of course. But they were good in bed."
At his words, Maverick slowly turned to me. I felt the bond stir up as his eyes fell on my bloody lips. I could already tell by the look on his face that he was imagining himself kissing away the wine from my lips. But he slowly shook his head and turned to Cain.
I flashed Cain a grin. "Remind me to add you to my list of people to be killed once I find a way to escape from here. You have been marked, Cain."
"Being marked by a powerful hunter is not a good thing. But luckily for me, I'm not afraid of hunters."
"It would not be like last time," I said. "I only gave up on the chase and spared your life because I killed hundreds of your kind that night."
"Interesting."
"The only reason Lilith is here is because I plan to secretly find a way to break the bond between us."
"Okay?"
"I need your help," Maverick continued. "Find me someone that can help me break the bond."
"Well, the only people who specialize in this aspect are witches. But considering they're dead thanks to the war centuries ago, we would need another option."
"What do you say then?" Maverick asked.
"Moon priestesses."
Moon priestesses were women blessed and anointed by the moon goddess, Melinda. They were holier than others, able to see into the future and perform other works. But they were very rare to find. They completely isolated themselves from the outside world. Some lived in the mountains, and others in the forest.
"We should try them then," Maverick said.
"So, where have you been all this while?" Maverick asked.
"Would you ever guess that the moment we separated, I met a werewolf whom I thought was the woman of my dreams? We mated, made plans for our future, and married."
"I don't see any ring now," Maverick chuckled.
"We divorced after a few months."
"You could try again," I said.
Both males turned to me.
"Cain has been married more than five times since we met," Maverick said.
"Then he needs to focus on finding perfect clothes that fit him," I said.
Cain grinned. "I would rather put my time into hunting and killing hunters. That's what excites me most."
"Do you think just because you kill hunters, I should be afraid of you?" I leaned closer. "I've killed hunters too. I don't fear you."
"Forget about her," Maverick cut in before Cain could say anything.
"We do need to find a quick solution for this. I can't imagine being her mate and having to deal with her," Cain said. "And you also cannot kill her. If she runs, you follow. If you kill her, you suffer from Melinda's curse."
"Cute," I said. "You should write some poem with that mind of yours."
"I was just about to say that," Cain replied. "'The Lycan King and his hunter mate' would definitely sell well."
Just then, Maverick's phone rang. He stood up and left to answer the call. When he returned, he sat down and gave Cain a questioning look.
"What about the Prince?" Cain asked. "You met him at the mate hunt last moon… Was he clean when you saw him? Clean of hard drugs, as a Prince should be, or does he still look mentally unstable?"
