Hye-rin's heart pounded so loudly she was afraid Min-jae could hear it. They stood just outside the cinema doors, the faint echo of the movie leaking into the hallway as people walked past with popcorn and soda cups. Min-jae's expression was calm—too calm. And that scared her even more.
He was the first to break the silence.
"I found it in my old room," he said softly, like he didn't want the words to hurt her. "The marriage contract. It was under the bed… where I left some of my things."
Hye-rin felt her mouth dry instantly. Of course. That room used to be his when he lived with the Lees. She hadn't even thought of that. A sharp wave of anxiety washed through her, tightening her chest.
"I—I wasn't hiding it on purpose," she said quickly. "I didn't even know it was there. I thought I took everything with me—"
Min-jae raised a hand gently, stopping her before her voice cracked. "You don't have to explain. I'm not angry."
"But—"
