I should probably tell my master about this. I had just seen her rival summon a servant, which only meant that the grail war was quickly approaching. I touched my chest lightly. It beat a little faster than usual. Personally, in my life I was never a battle freak. Not like Eris, who would jump at the chance for a fight without hesitation.
The heartbeat was different; it carried more of an anxious edge. It was strange, it felt like I was going against geese again. This big war was going to start soon, and I could die. All the planning I had relied on could be thrown away in an instant, and that made me uneasy. But there was no point in dwelling on it.
Any more worrying and I'd start to spiral into another panic, preparing more than necessary. Right now, what I needed to do was simply report this.
"So master, what are your plans for this upcoming war?" a tall figure asked.
The girl looked at her servant, her expression thoughtful. This summoning had been more chaotic than she anticipated. It made things worse that she hadn't summoned a saber. For a moment, she paused, almost forgetting what her plans for the war had been.
"Well, right now my only plan for the war is to get back at this guy," she said with a small, mischievous smile. The servant tilted his head, confused by the expression on his master's face. "Who could this person you're talking about be?" he asked.
She smiled a little harder, leaning back in her chair. "There's this guy in my class, and he's been annoying me more than shinji ever since he transferred. I thought that, now that I have a servant, I could get some petty revenge." Her voice carried a playful, almost evil tone.
He looked a little confused at the way his master was grinning. "And his name?" He asked, raising his eyebrow.
Rin smiled. "His name is Rudeus Greyrat.."
At that moment, I sneezed and rubbed my nose in annoyance. "As a servant, I shouldn't be able to get sick normally, so that means someone was talking about me," I muttered, slightly surprised. "Well, no point thinking about it too hard. I need to get to my master. She might know who this guy is."
I rushed home, moving quickly through the streets, when someone caught my eye. It was a woman with reddish-brown, shoulder-length hair. Her sharp red eyes stood out, and she had a figure that could not be ignored. She also had a cigarette in her hand. Beyond that, nothing remarkable about her.
I wasn't sure why I looked at her in the first place. Maybe I had been distracted. She was beautiful, and that was enough to pull my attention. I shook my head and reminded myself: focus. I needed to get back to the house.
Shortly after, I reached the big estate and went inside. I never had to knock or use a key; the door was always unlocked. Nobody dared enter because of the wards. A normal person would ignore it, pretending it didn't exist. And if someone with magical power tried to step inside? Well, whatever happened afterward was their problem.
I walked inside. Dusk had already settled, painting the room in soft orange and purple hues. People were already inside their homes, winding down for the evening. It wasn't a surprise to see Sakura in the kitchen, busy cooking.
Ever since that day, she had taken it upon herself to cook both morning and night. I admired her for this; she cooked for both of us. And for that guy Shirou, she really was the ideal housewife, a woman who cared enough to prepare meals from the heart.
"Hello, Sakura. The food smells really good." I said quickly, looking at the beautiful purple-haired girl in front of me.
She nodded and blushed faintly. "Thank you, senpai," she murmured, turning back to her cooking.
I closed the door behind me and moved through the house, searching for one person I knew I could usually find. I walked to the other side of the estate, where a single room stood apart from the rest. The door was large and grand, like something out of a princess's bedroom. I knocked and waited.
After a few seconds, a soft hum answered. "Come in." She spoke calmly, and I entered quickly. The girl sat at a chair in front of a desk, seemingly absorbed in what she was looking at. I paused silently, watching her. She wore casual clothes, though I knew the price behind them was something beyond what anyone in my original life could afford without plunging their family into generational debt.
"So, what do you have to tell me, Caster?" she asked without turning around.
"Well, I have news that you'd be happy to hear," I replied, keeping my tone neutral. Usually, when I spoke to her, it was monotone and devoid of emotion. Only in the presence of others did I try to feign a friendly relationship.
In my previous life, I wasn't one to hold grudges or carry disdain for others, unless they were the Man God. But something about her calmness when so much was on the line rubbed me the wrong way. Since there was little point in trying to better our relationship, I no longer attempted it.
Her ears perked up slightly, and she slowly turned in her chair to face me. Her eyes narrowed, crossing one leg over the other and pressing her hands together. "Hmm, let me hear this wonderful news you brought me," she said in a fake sweet tone.
I ignored her attempt to annoy me; I was used to it by now. "Well, you see, Rin Tohsaka has summoned a servant," I said plainly, dropping the information without any preamble. I had been wanting to see her reaction, and she did not disappoint, even though she tried to hide it. I could see the shock on her face beneath her carefully maintained composure.
Still, she quickly adjusted, touching her golden locks. "Hm, it seems you did bring wonderful news. How do you know?"
I hadn't told anyone about my magical eye. Not that I really had a reason to hide it, I just never gotten to it. No one ever asked.
"I watched it happen. She had been trying to summon a saber-class servant but ended up with an archer," I said in a composed voice.
The girl in front of me laughed softly, chuckling for a few seconds before stifling it. "Oh my, this is really wonderful news. To think that Rin would try for a saber and pull an archer is just delightful."
Her mood shifted, and a small smile formed. "So, Caster, could you tell me what historical figure he was?" She leaned forward, curious. Knowing the historical figure would help in planning countermeasures and anticipating abilities.
I shook my head. "Nope. Not even Tohsaka or the archer himself knows what historical figure he is."
Luvia Edelfelt studied me carefully, searching for any sign of deceit. How could her servant not know? It was unheard of. "Explain," she said, intrigued, her fingers tapping lightly on the desk.
I recounted the summoning in detail. By the end, her grin had widened, and she could no longer hide her glee. This was the best outcome: her rival suffering while summoning a servant who didn't even know who he was.
"Oh my, it seems Rin is going to have a very hard time in this upcoming grail war. Crushing her will be as easy as making tea, and the Edelfelts will be the one true gem magecraft family," she said, laughing softly, her mind clearly plotting.
I sat quietly, observing her as she laughed and schemed. "So, master, what is your plan?" I asked, tapping my foot lightly in impatience.
She composed herself, thinking for a moment. "You will not attend school for the rest of the grail war. Now that Rin is a master, if she sees you, she will recognize you as a servant. You will watch over me and handle any plans I need executed." She nodded, satisfied with her own decision.
I inclined my head. "Okay, master. I will go now," I said and exited her room, closing the door behind me. The plan seemed solid, and I would follow it.
Downstairs, I saw Sakura sitting at a table by herself, the food laid out before her. Curiosity struck me. "What are you doing? Are you not going to tell my master the meal is ready?"
She shook her head. "Luvia had already eaten this meal was made just for us. She said she needed more time to study and wanted to eat earlier."
I raised a brow but did not press further. She had clearly been focused on something before I walked in, so I accepted her explanation. I moved to the table and sat across from her.
"So, Sakura, where do you usually go in the morning?" I asked, though I already knew the answer.
She blushed slightly, looking away in embarrassment. "Well, um, I'm going to my senpai's house to help him make breakfast. I was doing this even before you started helping me," she said softly.
I nodded. Everything aligned with what I had observed. "Well, I hope you aren't telling him anything about us," I said, teasing lightly.
Her eyes widened, and she shook her head vigorously. "No! I would never tell anyone about you, senpai. Not even if I were tortured!" Her voice trembled slightly, full of earnest urgency.
I chuckled softly. "Sakura, don't be so stiff. I was only joking. I don't believe you would tell anyone our secrets."
Her face turned red. Did she overreact? "Senpai, stop teasing me and just eat your food," she said, exasperated but smiling slightly.
I returned her smile, picking up my chopsticks. "Alright," I said lightly, beginning to eat
