For a moment, Iris did not push me away. She let me taste her lips.
I needed it before going on this mission. I needed a taste of her, the memory of her, her scent with me.
I wished we could go together, and I knew she would want that too, but it would be too dangerous for her. She also did not need to know why I was heading south.
Then she remembered everything.
She began to resist, placing her hands on my chest and scratching it. She did not push me away, but showed me that loving me came with pain.
I broke the kiss slowly, our lips still touching for a few seconds.
"I will miss you," I whispered, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"No, you won't," she replied, looking hurt. "None of it matters to you. I know that. I don't matter to you. Your children don't matter to you."
