Iris:
"You shouldn't be doing something like that. Why do you want your child to suffer because of your mistakes?" she remarked.
Her tone was harsh. If I had not been scared of my mother finding out, I would have told her to mind her own business.
I would have been angry with her for stopping me from having a little pleasure in my life, for going after what I wanted in the moment.
But before I could respond, she added, "And giving yourself to that man– hasn't he embarrassed you and rejected you enough times?"
The way she said it made me feel disgusted with myself. My fist clenched and I only nodded.
"I don't want you to be this way. I don't want to control your life, but Iris, he will ruin everything for you," she whispered.
I felt so awkward standing there, like a culprit.
"I know I'm just your mother's secretary, and you're a crowned princess in front of me. I should not be saying all this to you, but Iris, I care for you," she uttered softly.
