Davina's POV
I yanked my phone out immediately and called my brother's number. My fingers shook as I tapped the screen, the device nearly sliding from my clammy palm.
My heart was pounding.
Chase would've warned me before going to get him.
I fought desperately not to lose it. No, I couldn't lose it now. I kept telling myself there was nothing to panic about. Nothing. Chase got him. Chase picked Cooper up.
He's okay, he's okay, I chanted in my mind like a mantra.
But the phone rang endlessly. Nobody answered the first call.
My heart plummeted so violently it felt like it abandoned my body completely. My legs went weak, and I had to clutch the wall next to me to stop myself from collapsing.
I pressed call again, my breathing ragged, my sight getting fuzzy from how badly I was freaking out.
This time, after three rings, someone finally answered. Relief flooded through me, but the voice I heard made me go completely still.
It wasn't my brother's voice.
