Davina's POV
I stared at my son, completely blindsided by his question. Cooper's tiny voice, so soft and pure, rang in my ears.
"Does papa love me too?"
I blinked slowly, my gaze fixed on his curious little drowsy face. He was watching me, waiting. So filled with hope, so unaware of the weight that question carried.
He was so innocent. So untainted. I despised how I had to deceive him.
I didn't know what the reality was. Did Irvin even give a damn? Would he care if he encountered Cooper now? Would he feel pride, or would he turn and leave without a single word?
I lacked answers, but what I knew with certainty was that I couldn't voice any of that to my son.
"Yes, baby," I finally whispered, my voice hushed, barely audible. "He loves you so much."
The words tore at my heart as they escaped my lips, but I managed a smile. For Cooper.
His face brightened. That gorgeous, tender smile that dissolved me from within. So innocent. So trusting. I didn't deserve a child this flawless.
